Belugas are whales, not dolphins. And no, they are not happy in captivity as studies have shown. In SeaWorld, dolphins are fed antidepressants on a daily basis and for one dolphin that survives the first couple of years, 5 to 7 others die. The mortality rate is very high.

Dolphins are artistic animals and have a knack for inventing games and art. They will especially come up with things like this when they are bored, hence in captivity.
