I seriously think we need a new economic system. Everyone is aware there are enough resources to go around, we have the technology to ensure they do go around, and no one wants to see people suffer needlessly, but everyone also understands that technically efficient, empathic, sustainable methods contradict the system we use today. It rewards inefficiency, sociopathy, and waste.

Everyone will suffer as a result of the greed and parasitic mindset it rewards if we dont get rid of it soon.

The level of discussion on animal rights issues has made much progress. I highly recommend Gary Steiner's "Anthropocentrism & its Discontents: The Moral Status of Animals in the History of Western Philosophy", and Steiner's interview w/ Gary Francione. Also, Steven M. Wise's "Rattling the Cage: Toward Legal Rights for Animals". These are logical, practical & realistic arguments put forth, rather than mere appealing to others' conscience, which i believe does little to help animals.

@moghedian7 Just because some animals eat others, doesn't mean we have to. There are many animals that choose to be vegetarian. The Great Ape, for example, could easily crush you or I, yet they choose not to, and are vegetarian. What you do to other living beings comes back to you.

We have a few cute pets that we "love" and stroke - the other ones we bred in concentration camps waiting for death - legally abused as "things". Literally. My feelings as well.

David Icke put that much more eloquently,but, the truth is what I feel in it. I've spent far too much time saying that animal welfare, or any welfare for that matter, runs contrary to the pursuit of profit. They just can't work together. It's often like speaking to the wind as the thought processes surrounding the money issue have so corrupted the hearts of so many. Quite sad really....People don't understand just how much they've been manipulated.
