This won't warm your PS3, and it's not called the PS3 Fan Test. This fan cleaning system is in the manual, and you're not supposed to hold it upside down you retard. **It will harm your PS3 if you hold it upside down, and block the air intake**

The real cleaning method is to hold the Eject button, then switch the power button from the back. Check in your info before you make stupid videos...

You shoudln't do the fan test at all! & its not a really a fan test. If the air flow is blocked this will cause the system to overheat & can damage your processor/motherboard. If hear this fan you should do this:

If you ever hear the fans blow in this fashion you should immediately shut down any game, go to the main PS3 OS screen for about 10 minutes then shut down the system, unlpug it & figure out what is causing this.

1. Make sure the room is at least 67*F

@aleksi2703 If a fan blowing fast on its own or from air being blocked is trying to cool down the system from being too hot. My laptop motherboard got fried from overheating too much & i probably would still have it if i knew the increased fan level was a sign that it was overheating. The fan itself won't do any damage but over time if you let your system run hot all the time you could burn a serious component out. Fans at the max speed usually indicates a cooling problem.

Electronics devices use ELECTRICITY. Electical components get hot. Processors get VERY hot so they have fans to cool them down. If they become TOO hot the fan speeds up. This isn't a fan test, its system abuse. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the dust out. The 40gb and 80gb have a SAFE dust purge feature.

Yes it is bad to hold the PS3 upside down and cover the air vent! But I can guarantee that it is not bad to hold the eject button and MAX out the fan. All that does is tell the fan to spin at it's max for a fixed amount of time, like when you press the on switch on your computer, all it's doing is switching on. Same is happedning here, all it is doing is switching on the fan and throttling it to MAX RPM. My laptop does this when I switch it on, throttles all it's fans with no problem!

thats all very good but you didn't describe the problem. The thing people are doing is holding down the eject button which sends the fan to its top speed. You said to Sony that people are holding the PS3 upside down and covering the air vents. OF COURSE THEY WOULD SAY IT IS BAD. YOUR COVERING THE BLOODY FAN VENTS. You need to tell them what people are REALLY doing - holding the eject button down. People covering the air vents isn't a built in function whereas this Fan Test thing is. Try again
