Were you playing any sections from songs in this video? The chord progressions sounded way too awesome to be improvised on the spot like that. Unless you're secretly in Dream Theater or something :P
:D well, that's a really awesome comment and I thank you for thinkin' of me as a DT secret member, but the only not-improvised part in the whole video is the Bach theme of "aria sulla quarta corda", the rest is completely improvised on a quite easy and tonal chords progression, don't remember if in A major of something... and E minor, maybe...
Sorry dude, I'm not sure I've understood your question (my english is not that good...), do you mean you wanna know what I'm playing? If that's so, I don't remember... It's been four years ago... :D
I think I was just improvvising on a major chord, maybe Amaj. :)
Well done. love the intro especially. To comment on a previous post. the 20 has better tracking than the 33 but not as in- depth editing b/c they replace the analog 33 circuit with a digi. There will be latency issues with any midi guitar processor but it can be compensated with an adjustment to the "feel" parameters or the like. the key is to remember what instrument you are emulating and play to that instruments style and range. this video is a perfect example of a 20 in the right hands
Do you mean change the pad chord without play the note on the guitar? Nope. You have to strum the chord, hold it by feet and play with the guitar above.
you can do more than use your feet to bank up and down and save them for sustain and expression pedal: you can select your sound directly from the GK-3 on your guitar.
The only bad thing is that you must save your sounds one after the other like on a multieffect just like the RP50, for example.
look up in the old comments, friend... It's a sort of "vademecum" for who's willing to buy. I am not a Roland employee but however I was taken for. XD
I have heard of problems mounting them to carved or in PRS case figured tops before. But they apparently fit LP's pretty well so I guess the best thing to do it speak to a luthier or guitar Tech x
Actually I have since mounted the pickup between the bridge pickup and the bridge, and it works pretty good. The trick is to find the right combination between the pickup height and the sensitivity, which requires a bit of experimentation and patience. The PRS can be used with the GK3 pickup with good results. Thanks for your response.
dude, i loved your playing, wonderful specially the intro lead runs with pads in the background, so much soul and feel, u should make an instrumental like that....very nice, keep it up !!!
dude! seriously......buy one, just got mine last week, it is the best thing i have bought for my guitar. its a must have though! you'll thank your self
8 months ago: You don't have to plug your guitar directly on GR20, you can plug it to your pedals by jack cable and into the roland by 13 pins cable... two different connections, two amps required.
ivaneu (5 months ago): and then, everybody needs for play with the gr-20 TWO AMPS??
GuitarFeeling: not if you put everything on one amp (but you can't use the lead channel) or guitar into amp and GR20 straightly into a mixer... it's just as play with a guit and a keyboard together...
if your amp have also 2 inputs, you should put a distortion pedal between the guitar and one input and leave the other clean for the GR20... instead, if you like the amp's distortion, you have to put the GR20 into another.
In theory, would the Boss LS2 Line Selector do an OK job? That is the GR20 into say line A and the guitar into line B, then hook line B up to further effect pedals and let the LS2 do the mixing, with a mono output?
True, the only alternative is to buy a esaphonic guitar with that "thing" inside... like the Armas Mercury or the I-Morgan. For less then 200€ of difference from the normal model. But I have the second! hehe
The lag depends on how you install the pickup. if you have a pro install it right, you will have very good tracking when using the Gr-20's internal sounds only. It has annoying latency when connected to external synths, but thats why they made the Gr-20's internal sounds so good, so you don't have to use other synth boxes. If you record midi on a midi sequencer, you will have to do touch ups, but this is a very small price to pay since you don't have to learn keys. very worth it!!!
Hey, sweet video. I just got the GR-20 and I was wondering how you get that acoustic sound on it? I haven't managed to find it yet. Or is that sound coming from something else?
Of course you have to set the sensivity and the distance between the PU and the strings: it's an Universal PU but guitars are not all the same. The radius, the action, the shape of the top...
Great playing with a great toy. I have question... How does de gk-3 pickup stay in place ? Do you have to put some screws or something or it has some kind of tape thing that make it stays in place on the guitar ?
Thanx a lot dude... inside the pack, there is some double-sided tape... but it works if ya play at home or for yourself... If ya play live on a stage and you move a lot, my hint is to put two screws on the instrument.

great sounds, man! have you ever heard of the axon midi systems? the are unrivaled in terms of tracking speed and accuracy. was a former roland endorser until i tried the axon, it blew me away!
no joke, the axon will track and reproduce even the fastest licks you were playing with your lead tone, thats how good it is..
..not an employee or associate of any kind, just a happy customer, check em out!
yeah, the in comparison they typically run about 100 US dollars or so more than the rolands. they have two seperate units like roland does, one has on board sounds and is considered their flagship model, the other is strictly for connecting to an external unit like a computer or stand-alone synth.
the price however is really nothing to be concerend about, for they are worth the extra cost.
imagine being able to play quick lead licks like you are here, but with midi! axon does it!
I don't remember which preset I took, this is an User patch I modified myself... but I think you can find something that kind between strings patches...
How did he switch so effortlessly between the synth and the guitar pickups? I thought there is a switch at the GK-3 pickup that we need to flick to switch...
I have plugged my guitar into a GT-6 too, so I pick the chord with the GT6 volume down, then hold the chord on the GR20, up the gt6 and play... and all restarts on the second chord... ^_^
I still don't quite get it, when you up the GT-6 volume, the signals are still being sent thru your GK-3, which means the synth should be triggered as well when you solo... why don't I hear the synth playing the same? :)
I just took some minutes to set up the sounds (really few minutes, it was new!) and immediately pick up my camera to record... I was too shaken to wait...

do you have to have a separate amp for distortion or can you have the clean pedal sound along with the distortion lead on the same amp
