Hi mopar92... I think Solarcat is considering reliability... I run a 50' Nortech mono with quad 610's to make 4000hp total. Fully tweaked 610's would not last long and the maintenance cost is very high. So, you'd have to compare both option 2x tweaked 610's or 4x semi tweaked 610's to twin turbines... I'd run the turbine every time.

Yes mopar92, and I love Hemis myself, but you don't see them in boats. A 600-610ci marine motor will have a steel block and heads. And you will blow that $80,000 2000hp aluminum motor up very quickly in the Marine environment. What works in a car will not work in a boat. Many people have spent a lot of money finding that out.

Power to power, turbines are the least expensive(in the long run), most efficient powerplant to put in a boat. Go to turbinemarinedotcom and you will see how it's done.

The faster you go, the smoother the ride. I ran this boat in some rolly stuff in Orange beach and it handles itself very well, the cats run faster and don't get bogged down as easily as the mono if you hit a hole... but, if you get it wrong your day will go south in a hurry.

My guess is you would need a massive fuel tank up front. Like 400+ gallons to counter the weight of the engines, plus you would need that much fuel because there is a car that has 1 v-8 engine that does 230 that uses 32 gallons in like 20 minutes or less.

An 1800hp turbine weighs about 600lbs. An 1800hp piston engine weighs about 1200lbs. No forward ballast is needed. The key to balancing a boat is to place the fuel tanks such that the boat runs level at speed.

Many raceboats do have ballast tanks, but they are water tanks not fuel.

You're right, a raceboat has to be able to control its front lift. But taking 1200lbs from the back of this boat might have caused the spinout that occurred during its first race. It was built and balanced for the heavier piston engines not the turbines it was rerigged with.

The exhaust tubes used to exit above the drives underneath the swim platform. For some reason unknown(to me anyways lol), Haggin had Turbine Marine plug the holes and move the tips so that they now exit through the engine hatch. Which is ok because TM uses water-jacketed headers so that exhaust temps are so cool you can put you hand in them and not get burned.

We have about 10 different exhaust configs and growing... depends on the use of the boat and the owners wishes... exhaust routed under the transom is super quite and runs really cold... perfect in the crowded waters of Miami and a big stealthy surprise for boy racers showing off in their Sonics.

This boat is 51' long and weighs 20,000lbs. The owner told me it runs over 100mph in 3'-4' ocean swells. Its length spans the waves and its weight just crushes them. This boat is an Outerlimits built in Rhode Island. Nor-tech in Florida builds a similar boat with similar performance.

If you want a boat that will run safely and comfortably in the ocean, these big boats will do that.
