@PUERTORICO6969 A few websites are stating that Toyota is aiming for a $15,700 MSRP and it's supposed to get roughly 40-45MPG.

Frankly, something has to be wrong here. The Prius retails for $23,000 new and gets only 5-7MPG better -- even the upcoming Aqua is going to retail for $19,000-$20,000. How the hell is Toyota going to retail the Yaris for $5,000 less when all three of these vehicles use the Hybrid Synergy System?

@Rezxer The Prius has a more advanced and better tuned Hybrid system, Prius is much larger, and the Prius is more luxurious. That is why it cost more.

What's awesome is that the normal Yaris gets pretty close to the Prius's real world mpg for half the price. How about a diesel Yaris in the US? I believe people have gotten 70-80mpg with those things!

@eurohim No it isn't! The normal Yaris has bad MPG's...not much better than the corolla, just like two miles more per gallon. I was suprised by that b/c it is so much smaller. But a Hybrid Yaris may beat the Prius if they make it the same way. Because it is going to be much lighter

@whole27 Well, my Yaris gets between 40-42mpg and the average Prius according to some google searches tends to be 45-47 and that is spot on for the couple of people I know that own one, so that's pretty close.

@eurohim That is an exaggeration to say the Prius only gets 45-47:) The yaris is listed at about 36MPG for highway and only 29MPG for local and it isn't even a hybrid and so if you drive conservatively, u can stretch it but u can stretch the prius as well so what you are doing is stating the stretched Yaris MPG and only the normal Prius MPG, u actually even understated the normal/listed MPG of any prius...the new Prius get 50MPG local so if you stretch that, u can easily get 70-80 in the Prius!

@whole27 Too bad people tend to not drive their vehicles right. At a price point, getting a prius would have nearly double the cost of the vehicle, so that would have taken another 100k miles to pay off in gas savings at current prices (over my old Ford Ranger) if I happened to get 80+MPG out of it. The likelihood of that was low, so I went with the Yaris. Too bad I couldn't get the diesel version of the Yaris...

PS: Toyota, you should take native speakers for marketing... I'm sorry but his french accent is unbearable, which is amazing when you see what he is in charge of. At this level, a good english accent is a requirement, not an option.
