No she didn't. She was the best performer up until the live shows where she got forced to sing songs that didn't suit her. She got forced to act like the modern 'popstar' which she isn't. Before she was forced to do anything she was the best. Even during the liveshows she won the votes for like the first 5 weeks then came 2nd on the 6th.

There are quite a lot of artists that don't like to wear shoes. Joss Stone is always barefoot for her performances. Janis Joplin famously never wore shoes! you may realize that she does not really have the range, she relies a lot on falsetto, which she goes soft everytime she uses it. It may sound unfair, but I think the americans are mesmerized by her irish accent.

I'm not sure if that's part of her Irish accent that we all seem to be mesmerized by, but I think she's a good enough singer to be labeled as the "shy one with the funky voice". Still, everyone has their reasons for liking her, that's just mine.

And the other point of using falsetto is to use it while maintaining volume, i.e. using your lungs to push air into the falsetto, takes a bit of control. Watch kelly's reaction, while she sings, she perks up everytime there is some very specific irish inflection " it may be quite simple "but", now that it's "doun"
