In my misspent youth, I took drugs across boarders 3 times. On all 3 occasions I never made any attempt to conceal them...i.e. in my jacket pocket or in my hand luggage...in the vain hope that if I got caught I could say that I forgot to ditch them before I left for the airport. Admittedly not the amounts you see in programs like this, but certainly enough to see the inside of a jail cell. On all 3 occasions I acted brazen, even STARTING conversations with customs men. Never even got searched.

Customs at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport are often rude and try to intimidate people. I was almost crying after they were done with me once even though i didn't have anything with me!

When I go to Thailand or Malaysia they have even harder laws about smuggling (often death penalty) but the customs officers there are very polite, but just as thorough if not even more. Why can't they just be polite in Australian customs?

If I would have something, they'll find it anyway.
