Michel Gondry is one of the few directors who can explain his work without sounding pretentious. In this clip he says that the aesthetic qualities of the Benny Hill show were the inspiration for the look of the Let Forever Be video. Brilliant! He's truly a product of our time, absorbing pop culture without prejudice, remixing it cleverly but very deliberately avoiding the clichés and excesses of both big-budget glam and faux preciousness in music video. Class act all the way.
