I absolutely love this movie! It's like Lord of the Rings martial arts style. And on top of that, it's got Jackie Chan AND Jet Li.
Seems most martial arts movies are just city brawls and glamorized street fights. Don't get me wrong, I like watching them, but I wish there were more high fantasy martial arts movies like this.

I'm getting sick of these Wushu movies. China lost 6 major conflicts with Europe, USA, and Japan from 1800-1920 and traditional martian arts were of no use.
I'd like to see a big-budget movie about the TaiPing rebellion.
After seeing this movie, kids from all the world will be coming to China to study martial arts at Shaolin Temple or Mount Wudang, joining others already there.
Before all I knew about this movie was that it was a collaboration between Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Now that I've seen the trailer I'm hella excited for the movie given the epic setting and the period costumes and of course the blinding fast martial arts extravaganza of Jackie and Jet.However, Hollywood always has tendency to mess things up.....WHAT THE HELL IS A RANDOM WHITE GUY DOING THERE?!I get it they couuldn't just have an Asian hero right.
Liu Yi Fei (the orphan girl) is STUNNINGLY beautiful, I mean REALLY, REALLY beautiful!!!!!
She has the most gorgeous eyes in the world. I still think she is at her best WITHOUT make-up, when she is doing interviews. Here's to the most beautiful woman on the planet :-}
Continue... Fighting scene is too much, almost every scene has to fight even the time span much longer than just conversation scene. I know the movie was an adventure but adventure needs storyline to backup. At the end of the film, the old man was delivered to the hospital, the people surrounding them have no facial expression of surprises. Even the china town was made so fake.
I wish they can focus more on storyline than fighting in the future movies.

In my opinion, this movie isn't good as expected. Yes, it has alot of fighting scene but it's overly used. The storyline is too simple, basically kill the emperor and save the monkey king. The monkey king costume doesn't look like a monkey to me. It's like a guy with gold hairs and that is it. I don't mind to have the western boy there, but the storyline need to be well written.

The concept of the movie is very momentous. It is a combination of eastern and western cultures. As you can see that the movie contains the stories of American Street Fighter, Chinese Monkey King, White Hair Monster Lady, etc. The Japanese computer game notion and dream-in-dream idea made the movie become more interesting, meaningful, and consistent. I loved this movie but i think it was tuned down too much. It felt a little rushed. This movie could have easily been 3 hours long and it would have been perfect.
o well.. this movie was directed by a "lowly" director... what you'd expect? a award winning film? just another film made particularly for the fans of the two legends..

The movie sucks!!! Everyone is an idiot. The story change from what it was suppose to be and the story line seems like it didn't have enuff time to develop fully. It's like a crappy compression of a story that use jetli and jacky as a main attraction. The martial arts suck, typical. Nothing so special about it. Wasn't all that funny. And all of the monologue came out and sound GAY!!! I think anyone is stupid enuff to see all these are idiot and shouldn't be talking.

Yeh, but I think that without him it would have just been another kung fu action movie - nothing special. This movie had a powerful skeletal structure, but defineatly had it's issues. If all the small annoying elements were worked out this could have been a super good movie, they just rushed through making it from the way the movie looks.

It's really good! much better crouching tiger hidden dragon imo. If u like the trailer, u'll like movie for sure. This is a martial arts fantasy tale, so just open ur mind and emerge urself in the...forbidden kingdom.
one thing to note is that the kissing scene has been cut. i guess 'coz we chinese people couldn't accept Liu Yi Fei kissing a white kid on her first on screen kiss...perhaps her first kiss ever. Hey, she's our darling! Keep her image pure... after all, she is the dragon girl.

watched the movie this aft. Didn't expect much of a plot/dialogue, because I didn't see messrs. Schamus/Lee in the credits. However, I was intrigued by the name-combi Yuen/Li/Chan and the chief cameraman mr. Pau. Inevitably, I was comparing 2008-mr. Li with him in the 90's, perhaps, they should have employed Donnie Yen. IMO, Yuen has contributed most. Also, I don't have to spend $3-5k to see China, just $7.75, thanks to mr. Pau.
I agree that the white actor kinda threw the whole movie off. This movie is about a Chinese folklore. You don't see a random Asian guy being thrown into an American Revolution movie. An all Asian cast would've made more sense. This is the same crap that happened in The Last Samurai. The white guy always has to be the leading role.

What people don't understand is that The Monkey King story is a legendary folk lore that was passed down and told for years. It is a story where kids grew up with. So yea to see a movie like this with a white kid is like wtf? Cause it is a legendary story. Overall it was a great movie. I want to go watch it again. The two Asian women (Sparrow, Witch) was hot also!! Too bad there was one white boy preventing it to be an all asian cast.
think of how most people would react if it was all asian though? "why does it have to be all asian?" you know? i think the white boy was a good toss in, and making the kid not know any style of fighting and having to learn throughout the movie was pretty cool

This movie is awesome!!! If you want a fun movie with great action and fighting this movie is it. Plus the historic pairing of Jet Li and Jackie could not hurt either.
I really enjoyed the movie here in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. It is good cheesy fun with great fight scenes. Jackie Chan's Drunk Master is back. Jet Li is great as always, and the kid brought a Karate Kid element to the movie.
Didn't jet lee also play the bad guy, anyway, jackie and jet are the best out of all of the fighters in the whole world, While I was watching it I felt like kicking this kids ass in school, since he does it to other people.♥

I think this movie was gonna be a Hong Kong movie until the Americans bought it. With the setting it doesn't make any sense that Jackie, Jet, and the Chinese are speaking to each other in English. The kid doesn't "surpass" Jackie and Jet. Like Liu Yifei, he plays a mere human. Jackie and Jet's characters are immortals. The kid's purpose in the movie is to simply deliver the staff to the Monkey King (also played by Jet Li), the strongest character in the film.

The movie sucks!!! Everyone is an idiot. The story change from what it was suppose to be and the story line seems like it didn't have enuff time to develop fully. It's like a crappy compression of a story that use jetli and jacky as a main attraction. The martial arts suck, typical. Nothing so special about it. Wasn't all that funny. And all of the monologue came out and sound GAY!!! I think anyone is stupid enuff to see all these are idiot and shouldn't be talking.

Yeh, but I think that without him it would have just been another kung fu action movie - nothing special. This movie had a powerful skeletal structure, but defineatly had it's issues. If all the small annoying elements were worked out this could have been a super good movie, they just rushed through making it from the way the movie looks.

It's really good! much better crouching tiger hidden dragon imo. If u like the trailer, u'll like movie for sure. This is a martial arts fantasy tale, so just open ur mind and emerge urself in the...forbidden kingdom.
one thing to note is that the kissing scene has been cut. i guess 'coz we chinese people couldn't accept Liu Yi Fei kissing a white kid on her first on screen kiss...perhaps her first kiss ever. Hey, she's our darling! Keep her image pure... after all, she is the dragon girl.

watched the movie this aft. Didn't expect much of a plot/dialogue, because I didn't see messrs. Schamus/Lee in the credits. However, I was intrigued by the name-combi Yuen/Li/Chan and the chief cameraman mr. Pau. Inevitably, I was comparing 2008-mr. Li with him in the 90's, perhaps, they should have employed Donnie Yen. IMO, Yuen has contributed most. Also, I don't have to spend $3-5k to see China, just $7.75, thanks to mr. Pau.

I agree that the white actor kinda threw the whole movie off. This movie is about a Chinese folklore. You don't see a random Asian guy being thrown into an American Revolution movie. An all Asian cast would've made more sense. This is the same crap that happened in The Last Samurai. The white guy always has to be the leading role.

What people don't understand is that The Monkey King story is a legendary folk lore that was passed down and told for years. It is a story where kids grew up with. So yea to see a movie like this with a white kid is like wtf? Cause it is a legendary story. Overall it was a great movie. I want to go watch it again. The two Asian women (Sparrow, Witch) was hot also!! Too bad there was one white boy preventing it to be an all asian cast.

I really enjoyed the movie here in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. It is good cheesy fun with great fight scenes. Jackie Chan's Drunk Master is back. Jet Li is great as always, and the kid brought a Karate Kid element to the movie.

I ain't racist to white people or anything, the white kid just doesn't fit. WHen Tom Cruise was in the Last Samurai, at least they didn't make all the Japanese start speaking English with each other, they kept it realistic by keeping their language Japanese with English subtitles. THey should of done that here. But still would be better HK.

I think this movie was gonna be a Hong Kong movie until the Americans bought it. With the setting it doesn't make any sense that Jackie, Jet, and the Chinese are speaking to each other in English. And this white kid shows up as the main character. What were they thinking? And he gets to kiss Liu Yifei. SHe's too hot for him, lol.
THis would of been alot better as HK kung fu flick with Chinese dialogue and just Jackie, Jet, and Yifei.

The kid doesn't "surpass" Jackie and Jet. Like Liu Yifei, he plays a mere human. Jackie and Jet's characters are immortals. The kid's purpose in the movie is to simply deliver the staff to the Monkey King (also played by Jet Li), the strongest character in the film.
