  • todd need's to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame

  • One of the most brilliant ballads ever written...

  • Todd is the only real doctor in this world, and I think we all need a prescription of compassion.

  • if you go through the whole body of work, listen to so many songs, you get this hall of fame problem; "you don't get Todd"? there's nobody remotely like him. if it was sports, he'd be the guy with 4,000 hits, 40,000 points, and 2 hundred touchdown catches. if you're a fan you know how it is. now I just get them by singing one of his songs, then wait for them to ask who wrote that song. sometimes I see the light go on.

  • the womanbackup is carla devito I think, from the early meatloaf days, love flo and eddie ;-)

  • WOW. What a TREMENDOUS clip!!! Not only are we treated to one of Todd's best performances, but we get to see and hear two of the greatest back up singers

in rock history, the inimitable Florescent Leech and EDDIE! Got to see them in Reno in the early 80's, and hung out with them playing Keno after the show. They were really fun guys, funny as hell

  • A thousand true loves will live and die.... awesome lyrics !

  • @harleyluvrable And a dream goes on forever! Fantastic!

  • Compassion beats Love.

  • You want more, and still more, until you get more than you ever bargained for...compassion, a mixed blessing, beautifully defined.

There's a "cleaner" version of this video that barely gets any hits posted by rogsteel

Check it out, it's all good.

  • I LOVE TODD.!!! COME TO ARGENTINA. MARIA SUSANA

I believe Todd wrote this tune

  • Great video of the Todd I grew up with him in the 70's and finally revisiting him after 30 years and its great to have viewed so many videos of such a great artist. And I can be seen at ( buddy young plays the blues) hope you enjoy not Todd by far.

  • Grew up listening to Todd in the 70's and just revisiting him now after 30 years and its great to see he is still out there playing in the year of the 2000's have a couple of albums that are vinyl and can't play, but these days you can finally find record players again, really have enjoyed listening to the past few videos I have viewed thank you, you tube and I can be found under buddy young plays the blues, enjoy.

  • Todd Rundgren was definately a man of his music, never an album he put out that wasn't utterly fantastic.

  • every album todd does there allways are songs that stick in your head/make you cry/re-vitalize you,i read the comments below and you peeps know what I mean.

  • there is Brian Wilson...and there is Todd...x

  • Really Awesome!!! 5*s Thank You....Anita.

  • Wow Flo and Eddie. Was that the Meatloaf girl? Timeline must be '81 or so.

    Good clip matey

  • The most prodigious and unique Pop/Rock artists of the last few decades.

  • WOW - the Real Rock Hall Of Fame... and The Real World.. Where do they ever intersect??

This performance is inspiring to me because my own musical work has similarly 'limitless' bondaries... But you can decide that for yourselves by typing Ludwig O'Neill into google orpreferable Yahooand finding me... on MSPC my name after the slash is ludwigsongs

    Spread me please!

  • This guy is not in the Rock Hall of Fame and the romones are? What a joke. Someone needs to open up something called the Real Rock Hall of Fame.

  • @BamaBoots

Ignorance abounds. Some musicians who don't make it to the Rock AND ROLL HALL OF FAME still have much to offer. I'm speaking as a musician/composer BTW.

  • @BamaBoots

It's a disgrace is what it is.

Todd Rundgren is a national treasure.

There should be a "Todd Rundgren Day" and everyone gets off work that day every year just to BANG THE DRUM ALL DAY! YEAH!

Let it be so!!! going forthwith! LOL

I am so sick of stupid ungrateful people taking him for granted.

  • @BamaBoots Yeah, really. That makes no sense.

  • He always writes at least one tune per album that makes you melt into a pool. A writer of thinking, feeling man's love songs--head, heart and soul in perfect harmony.

  • wow thats a beautiful way of putting it :)

  • I recognize the woman backing singer, who? didn't she work with The Tubes?

  • That's Todd's wife, Michele. And, yes, she did.....

  • I remembered, She's in Meatloaf, and wrong, I know who Michele Grey is, and she is not.

  • I stand corrected.......

    ;o)

  • not married..ithink, but they have a son named randy

  • Good grief, that's corny. :( And Bob Dylan holds a tune better than this guy...

  • Yeah, right.....but, you're entitled to your opinion......I guess....

  • One of the best songs ever written!

  • the thing with todd is in almost every album, he delivers one or two gems and the rest is missable .. but those two gems alone make it work it - bring on the opera..!

great lyrics that few others would have strung together

thats why i love the man - no one gets near for originality

  • Great video. He is one of a kind. Seen him many times live and he makes my heart rejoice.

    Long Live Todd.

  • forever brilliant.

  • Strike (while the iron is hot). What a fantastic vocal performance. Flo and Eddie on backing vocals adds to the pop moment.

  • Todd wrote a rock opera if you listen to the chronology of his songs. He could really put them to a broadway show...anyone listening?

    TR are you listening?

  • todd only sang one lead on the 3 Nazz albums; "You are my window". He's drawn everything he can from the instrument he was born with. His pop songs are not corny. In soul/r&b, simple, honest, commitment to the feeling is our art. My first rock concert was 40 yrs ago in Philly with Todd and Woody's Truck Stop opening for Jimi. For all the incredible range of his songbook, Todd could smoke Clapton and Page any day on the gittar. It really does my heart some good to hear others that get it. peace

  • Very well put........

    ;o)

  • Amen Brother. my feelings exactly. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who notics he's a pop songwriting genius. awesome guy. -Just Another Onion Head

  • a soul brother

  • Todd is Godd

  • todd is probably the only artist that i love more live than studio because his passion really comes out live-love him!

  • the greatest of my lifetime!

  • one of the greatest vocal deliveries of all time...and ALL HAIL flo and Eddie!

  • I just LOVE this song, such a meaningful lyric, Todd's inimitable pop shimmer, as The Wizard/True Star said about the song 'Marlene', this track leaves one with a shiver and a sigh!

    Excellent.

    Earl Grey

  • I danced to this song with my infant son every night! I'm swooning 20 years later. Thanks. Todd's the greatest, most inventive songwriter. Happy New Year!

  • Greatest Philly artist ever.

  • "You'll get no judgment from me,

    I can only feel compassion."

    Hare Krishna

  • What gifts he has. Beautiful music, beautiful voice. If anyone knows where or when he will be performing could you post it please?

  • he is touring in december

see "trconnection" on the web for full list of dates

  • thanks for taking the time to respond.

wish I could "go east" and see him. apparently I missed some west coast dates. Rats.

    nonnikat

  • he is touring this december on east coast and texas

  • check his website...he is quite active still..now touring with the Cars...the Liars tour was awesome...going to the Tralf in Buffalo, NY tonight 8pm...i think it's sold out

  • biggest musical genius of our time.....glad to have lived at this time!

  • Wow you summed this up perfectly. Todd is in my opinion the greatest musical genius of all time, way ahead of Lennon / McCartney and all the rest, because to this day he still makes music that sends a shiver up the spine (Afterlife, God Said - from Liars). 30 odd years of constant brilliance, with more to come. That said I love McCartney, but the stuff he has churned out post 1980 has been utter rubbish.

  • to see Utopia sing this song live..gives you the chills..........incredible

  • I've always been a freak for Todd, but I think these are the moves that inspired the Elaine character in Seinfeld's dancing...I just put it together! Great video

  • How did I miss this one?

Musically, he never fails to take you on quite a ride.

  • Absolutely A great song and one of my Favorites! as a compleat rundgren fan but i'm not sold on this perfomance I've seen todd hundreds of times. too physicly jerky.I mean he jerks his body too much.I have seen this song bring people to tears.Godd that it's on here.On u tube I mean.like to see were still togahther somehow.didn't mean to be critical.I like that User Name..IZZATLUV nize.

  • the most complex musician of the last 40 years!

  • who sings with more passion this this legend!? no one!

    he has it all!!

  • That voice! Todd, Mr. Soul. The world is in desperate need of Compassion. We need you Todd..a Healer .

  • Beautiful. One of Todd's best ever ballads. I believe the show was "Rock And Roll Tonight" from '83.

  • TANK YOU!!!!!!! VERY NICE!!!!!

  • rundgrenfan I was beginning to worry, I'll never doubt you again. I'm sooooooooooo tired right now but when I came upon this I had to tell you how much these help. 'and it gives my life a bit more meaning'

  • Todd rundgrenfan is Godd

  • Pure Todd, pure genius.

  • This is from a TV concert around 1983. "Live at the Palace" I think. That's "Flo & Eddie" and Karla DeVito on the backup vocals.

  • this is the same concert on myspace where todd is doing bang the drum

    THE VOICE!!! thanks

  • a brand new TR fan...more than what i asked for...can't believe what you said ;)....and yeah, it is him alright.

  • This does not appear to be either the "Nearly Human" or "2nd Wind" tours... Where is this from? Who was playing with Todd? Thanks!

    "Cheeks"

  • 1983, promo for the ever popular tortured artist effect, though this cut is of the healing album

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
