Thanks martdavid84. I envy those who saw her at Latin clubs in the early 60s. At Carnegie Hall I remember her doing several smoking numbers before she sat on a stool and did a slew of emotional songs that had many women in the audience crying. Honestly my father, not an emotional man, had tears in his eyes though he understood zero Spanish. It was that powerful. After that she pulled her wig off and all hell broke loose. One of the best shows that I have ever attended
La Lupe is incredible. I can watch this hundreds of times and never get tired of it. Two stunning performances from the Myrta Silva show in Puerto Rico. I hope more old tapes of her surface. I saw La Lupe at Carnegie Hall in 1969 and she rocked.

I saw her live in the 60s in New York City, at the Teatro Puerto Rico in 138 St and El Teatro Jefferson on 14 St. She was the most amazing performer. She got so frenzied she would start hitting the musicians and tearing off her clothes. And she would be talking and cracking jokes in between....she was really funny.

@SoHot29 Santeria and Vodou are actually the same! They are variations of the same thing! If you go to Brazil they have Candomble and Umbanda and all kinds of stuff! In Trinidad and Tobago they have Orishas, in Dominican Republic PALO is also known as Voudu Dominicano!

People just use Voudu as the base or pedestal to which other names for Afro Latin American and Afro Caribbean based religions to compare which makes it difficult for people to distinguish such similarities in these factions!

@puertorricane lo que sucedio entre las carreras de ambas fuel la payola en la disquera y en show bussiness. La Lupe era mas humilde y de barrio que la Celia, aunque era un poco orgullosa en sus comienzo y cuand alcanzo la fama total la embargo la banidad, toda una show girl, y cuando Dios comenzo a tocar su corazon y a humillarla comenzo a perder todo, pues Dios tenia planes para con ella y queria usarla como vaso escogido, para que el mundo viera que Dios es Dios y Lupe fue su sierva ,

It was circa 1970 NYC West 104 Riverside Park, La Lupe was performing just as she appeared clouds appeared and rain was minutes away.
La Lupe told everyone not to worry.
She started spreading different colored powders on stage and whad'ya know?
The clouds disappeared and it did not rain.
The Queen gave a helluva' show as always.

I saw La Lupe perform on TV for the first time when I was 10 years old in the Dominican Republic back in the mid 60's while she was on tour there. The impact she made in me has lasted to this day. I was totally floored and mesmerized by her indomitable energy and talent. Lupe, wherever you are, thank you for you gift to us. You will always be loved, and never forgotten.

People just use Voudu as the base or pedestal to which other names for Afro Latin American and Afro Caribbean based religions to compare which makes it difficult for people to distinguish such similarities in these factions!

Are you sure is her grave because according to her live's documentary seen in this site her grave has a big granite leaf on her grave well marked and some of her mates show some regrets for not recognising her on her last years.
