  • OMG, Prince Charles had darker hair and Prince William had more hair. Has it been that long already?

  • The actual music is beautiful, but I've never seen a more stiff and unhappy looking bunch of people in my life, lol.

  • Makes me want to cry!

  • What a beautiful version of this classic hymn, as a confessional lutheran these hyms hold a special place in our hearts also. Congrats to the Church of England for keeping the liturgical music alive! This make modern worsip music sound stupid.

  • THAT DESCANT!!!! YES!!!

  • Amen!

  • This is what it means to be a Christian to me, and an Englishman. Such a shame so many people do not know of God's love or England's culture.

  • THIS is how hymns have always been meant to be sung, folks!

  • So very beautiful!!!

  • Westminster Abbey is proof that there is a God.

  • magnificent

  • wouldnt it be great to sit next to the queen and sing loudly in falsetto hahha

  • Music from Westminster Abbey, unmatched, best in the world. Love those old standard Anglican hymns as seen here. Also, seen on youtube from Westminster Abbey: There Is A Green Hill Far Away & Christ The Lord Is Risen Today (Easter). Thankyou for the post.

  • May our lord and savior reign for all eternity!

  • yes, crown Jesus as Lord of Lords . Amen ?

  • This remains my absolute favorite video on Youtube!

  • Republic exists for corruption...

  • How much we regret the ruin of french Monarchy......how much we regret its austere republican credos....how much we long for the missed splendor..*.*.*.

  • @sinoples Monarchy exists for the edification of the people, and is a natural expression of governance, being more "organic" than the electing of officials every few years. Related pomp and splendor belong TO the people, as much as to royalty. It, like great art, music, architecture and literature, ennobles and enriches us, for it likewise speaks of shared traditions, country, people, place, history and future.

  • @lichtbroeder Sorry - Monarchy exists for the edification of the monarchy -- not the people. Thus, I am not a monarchist. The Republic alone exists for the edification of it's inhabitants, rather than that of only a few elite. Therefore, I am a Republican (in classical terms).

  • @SelfAccountable Any system of governance may be corrupted. There have been many good kings and queens. Millions of people have likewise suffered under the tyranny of the masses. An enlightened monarch may do much good. An unenlightened republic, not necessarily. The United States, a republic, abolished slavery in 1865. England abolished slavery in 1833, and did it with a monarch on the throne.

  • @lichtbroeder Constitutional Monarchy is the only acceptable form of monarchy. The only reason Britain abolished slavery first was because a monarch can make a unilateral decision. If this one individual is unenlightened, it spells certain oppression

  • @Fishsticks187 Yes, I agree.

  • @lichtbroeder Nothing to reply but that often people, by misguided information, and intellectuals, by egotist speculation, associate Monarcy principles with dictatorial concepts, ignoring how the Souzerein often acts as a representative, not necessarily as an Executior. Louis XV had the most expresive form of Absolute Representation, while constantly disparaging Parliament prerogatives, of no definitive help to the Royal Initiative

  • Like if you love hearing the descants at the end! :D

  • The narrator needs to shut up

  • I was born in America. I am not a subject of the Queen but my grandparents were. I'm proud of my heritage. Long Live the Queen.

  • Great use of the choristers in a "canon" in the last verse.

  • And it is the practice of the current Director of Music and Organist to write the descant arrangements.

  • Will this cathedral stand when Prince William introduce rock'n'roll to it?

  • Can someone help me with the words to the last verse- the descant please??? It doesn't sound like the regular.

  • comparing to the Crystal Cathedral, the people here sound sad, like they are sad to Crown Jesus Christ Lord..

  • @christovercame

Doubtful. They sound as if the crowning is a great solemnity, which it is. Grand music, voices full of awe... it has a heart-shaking beauty to it.

  • @christovercame No they don't They sound like a big giant cathedral full of people singing. Which by nature will be slower because of the amount of voices moving together and the acoustics of the space. Where as the Crystal Cathedral has their choir singing a Medley version without the congregation singing and a much smaller acoustical space.

  • Very Beautiful! absolutley wongerful!!

  • Holy spirit the dwell's in man kind, I thank you and I shall never leave you or forsake you for I have walked with you in my youth and shall walk with you forever more,

    Desiree Simmons

  • Remember when the Abbey was filled for the occasion (like this one) with women who knew how to dress--and not bare-legged, celebu-twats in push-up bras, platform stilettos and fascinators?

  • Beautiful Music....GodMusic...Beautiful...!!...."adrianmusic2009"......=GodMusic / Roumania-Bucharest

  • I bet Elizabeth was singing "Crown me with many crowns."

  • Don't think the Queen or the Royal Family liked how the Choir ended this Hymn. You can see how they all look at the Choir like "what the hell?"... and the lady behind the Queen starts laughing. They probably thought that the Choir messed up or something.

  • @lilJuvis15 I'd say they were just thinking: gosh this is a bit crash bang wallop!! I think the lady behind rather enjoyed it!! :-)

  • @lilJuvis15 The last verse was ever so slightly over the top I think.

  • @lilJuvis15

it's called the descant...it's supposed to sound like that

  • @PrinzOtto i know. i never said it sounded bad. I was just pointing out the fact the the Royal Family did not seem to enjoy the ending. You can see them looking to the choir and amongst them confused. But youre right it is called that.

  • Un-believably wonderful......KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS

with love Willie Saunders, Johannesburg, S.Africa, MARANATHA

  • nice

  • Beautiful. Keeping the hymns Stately is the key. And am sure Westminster Abbey is the creme de la creme when it comes to delivery of these hymns. Presbyterians and Methodists don't seem to have that stately sound and touch which I've noticed here in the U.S. Where as Episcopal Churches keep them a little slower.

  • Awesome!! Magnificent..

  • I was working in London back in 2004 and this is where I attended Church. What a fantasic place.

  • OUTSTANDING!

  • I'm an American Episcopalian of English heritage. We've been singing these hymns for centuries. Sloppiness is intolerable. No one does it better.

  • Boy, church going women in England love their hats don't they? All kinds of 'Mad Hatters' at that Royal Wedding last week. Love this hymn and this video, I wish that the organist hit the tutti piston at least on the last chord of the last stanza if not before to counter the Brass. Wonderful singing as expected when a boys' choir is involved.

  • @bhigdaddymark Its unfortunate that this recording is mono, you just don't get the dynamics of the sound coming through at all. I hate mono recordings.

  • @goodchappy Hello goodchappy! good to hear from you friend. Yes, I'm not a fan of mono recordings either, but what can we do? I thoroghly enjoy these vids none the less as there isn't anyone who sings/performs hymns better than the English! Great job!

  • ~~~Beautiful ~~ !!!

Thank you for posting it. :)

This is one of my favorite hymns, both during the Easter season and for other occasions. :)

  • I love how even the congregation pays attention to the text, breathes correctly, etc.

  • How does the Church of England know how to arrange these magnificent old hymns in such a regal - powerful stunning way.... BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!

  • @timothyj1966 Because we've been doing it for hundreds of years. You can't buy time.

  • @ds1868 LOVE that response!!! And how true it is! Love the British!

  • @bhigdaddymark The English my friend, the English.

  • @ds1868 I stand most corrected, and thank you! Albeit true, and serious on your part, I love your response lol!

  • @bhigdaddymark I think it has to do with protocol that at least most of the women have their heads covered. If you notice at Prince William & Kate's wedding, EVERY lady had their heads covered. My grandmother was an "old country" Catholic and told me that it was required of ladies to cover their heads. They even had a collection of scarves at her childhood church for women that forgot or didn't own head covering.

  • @Ericb61 Thank you, I didn't know that nor did I notice any women at that wedding without a hat for that matter. The music from the wedding was stunning and the organist (thankfully) wasn't shy about using the tutti piston either. It was GLORIOUS!

  • I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEE, it lits up my soul
