I was stationed at Camp Lejuene when this happened. It was unreal. Watched a bunch of trees explode and watched the fire jump from one side of the road to the other.
Several "heavy's" in '86? Must of been quite a sight for the local fellows.
Seems like the "Career Fire Seasons" are getting all to frequent in the South. We're doing good in Texas this year. Our fire numbers are tracking the same as '06 & '08. We've been able to keep the acres down... It sure helps when we haven't had a 900,000 acre fire.
There was a drought in 81,85 and 86. NC used to have good sized fires like this all the time. We had a 40,000 acre fire on the coast this past year which was the first large one since the 80's I've been to TX 3 times for IA detail and loved it!
