He did a mistake and I think a fine payed to an assotiation pro-hawks in combination with the social shame and the warning of jailtime next time are enough. 14 months in jail might ruin a persons job, family, reputation... In my opinion a fine+warning is the best solution.

@nybombs Easy Those animals you mentioned are beasts of burden. We raise and slaughter them for food. The hawk is a bird of prey. That is the difference. If you raise Billions of red shoulderd hawks annualy (like chickens) and have them bred and shot up with sterroids to make them nice and fat (good for eating) then you can get away with killing one for food, until then stop being a vegan.

I have no problem killing something for food shelter or life but to kill a bird of prey so you can make par on a golf course no. He should pay the fine and do some community service because the money wont be enough to bother him. In most US states you kill a Vulture, Hawk, Eagle, Gull, almost any preditor or scavenger bird you will go to jail. Not all government employees are PETA members

@icthruu4evr Well, he was playing golf, he saw a static hawk and started to hit balls aiming at it. The odds were low but he hit and killed the bird. It was stupid, infantile, cruel... He did a mistake and I think a fine payed to an assotiation pro-hawks in combination with the social shame and the warning of jailtime next time are enough. 14 months in jail might ruin a persons job, family, reputation... In my opinion a fine+warning is the best solution.
