There is a digitally remastered version of the stereo tape of this performance. This was an experimental taping because RCA Victor had only been recording in stereo for a few months. If Toscanini had not retired when he did he would have undoubtedly made commercial stereo recordings since he lived until January 1957. This dates from April 4, 1954, and was his final concert. He participated in some mono recording sessions in June, then retired.
Hey recall that at this point of the concert Toscanini had already suffered of the temporary ischemy causing the famous memory lapse during the Tannhauser ouverture.
Tiscanini conducting Rossini overtures is one of the best lps I ever heard- This overture was a staple of the maestro- I believe the best version was Chicago Symphony under Fritz Reiner but thats just my opine-

@shellac1925 1) This is not a good transfer and 2) the microphone set-up is rather poor.
But yes, this was done in Carnegie hall.
