  • This is completely wrong!!!!

The girl on here is NOT tamil! I've tried the phrase "Yepdi irukkeenga" and it is NOT translated correctly. It is mispelled!!

I wouldn't trust these videos, as Tamil SHOULD be learned in it's original form, because the transliteration attempts produce "Another" language.

Nice try, but you are about as Tamil as I am Shiva!

  • Vanakkam! What would be the words for uncle, aunt, and cousin? Nandri!

I had never believed that Tamil is that easy until I saw your lessons .Really you have done wonderful job.

Please upload more lessons so that we can learn good Tamil .

Hope more lessons from you soon.

    Good bye

    Nanri

  • In Sri Lanka it is pronounced TAMIL and not TAMIZH.

Furthermore, in English it is always spelled as TAMIL, and the spelling Tamizh makes no sense, if you want to use the spelling pronunciation, you can write it as Tamir. Tamil ZH is pronounced like American R, but not as American ZH.

  • @TUPINIKIMfm and @chinnawin1 - Udal mannukku, uyir Thamizhukku - Sudhandhira Dhina Nalvazhthukkal!

  • Tamil?? grrrrr its THAMIZH!

    Sweetheart pronunce tht properly!

  • Hey ,Thank You Selvi or Thirumathi :) .Ur voice is very sweet. Thanks for upload.I m tring to learn Tamil.Hope one day I will be able to manage in Tamil.

  • omg this is so hard ;_;

  • 100k views! Nandri!

  • desi....i am killing fan.........

  • It's amazing to think this language was untouched grammatically for several centuries, perhaps millenia.

  • Basically the oldest language still being used :)

  • Thank you so much for making this series. I am 24 years old and a US citizen who was born in India. I used to speak Tamil fluently when I was very young and while I can still understand it very well, I have trouble speaking it. This series is helping me out to an incredible extent in improving my pronunciation and vocabulary. I only have one question:

Is there a way to download the presentation that you're using so that I can refer to the slides offline?

  • @RajMahal77 To be able to refer to the slides offline please Download and install Reaplayer . Open the video with Firefox and when you bring the pointer on the the video you should see "Download this video" in the up-right corner of the video. Cheers.

  • Hello, I am wondering if you can help me,

I want to know how to write " the circle of life " and " Daddys little Princess" in Tamil writing.

    Can you please help me!

    Thanks

  • baby is called paapa ..LOL

  • Hi Desidame4eva,

This video is awesome, Your pronunciation is also very good. I referred it to one of my friend who wants to learn tamil.

  • this has got nothin to do with the vid(great job) but...just want to share my thoughts...my mother tongue is tamil...and tamil is probably the hardest language to master ...maybe because of its age...there's a lot of rules, exceptions, controversy on grammar, influence from other language and such and im not discouraging anybody here ,its just that we need to simplify the language so that it can be learned and practiced easily...(E.V.Ramasamy)

  • Unga kural arumai! Your voice is awesome!

  • what do you mean by seruppu pinjidum

  • @gouravra it means "I'll slap you with my shoe"

  • @SNSDfansUK lol..but the more literal translation would be "slippers will tear" ..haha

  • @sinemix : "Brother, you too?" Anna -> older brother. Neegaluma = neengal + um + a -> you + also + (question indicator) = you too?

  • Hi I am a Sri Lanka Sinhalese who always wanted 2 learn Tamil n didnt hv the chance - till now!! • Vanakkam I am a Maharashtrian i am trying to learn Tamil, your video is very helpful. thank you and god bless u

  • your voice is beautiful.........i feel like listening to you more.......

  • Nandri!!!! Excellent... many Nandri!!!

  • tamil is very hard to speak! it a great language actually!

  • @visa422978 : I personally don't like spoken Tamil; all the beauty in the endings of the words present in written or literary Tamil is just lost in the colloquial, spoken versions.

Since spoken Tamil is also not standard and declension/conjugation varies significantly between communities, I find it a little hard to follow when I am not familiar with that way of speaking.

But as a written language, I think it's BEAUTIFUL.

  • This training is good. From where can I get a soft copy of the presentation so that I can refer to it more often ? I am from Sri Lanka.

  • This going to be so helpful. I am excited to learn. Thank you..

  • Terriffic! I've been looking for something like this!!!

    Nandri!

I live in London and fortunately lots of tamilians here. I love tamil songs and movies and my best friend is a tamil guy. So I would love to learn the language. Hope your video helps. Will let you know. Watched it for 3 mins and liked it immensely. Nandri.

  • Is this tamil compatible with the tamil spoken in Sri Lanka?

  • Nandri I speak Malayalam but also watch a lot of Tamil movies. Lots of the movies I wanted to watch didn't have English subtitles so I decided to learn Tamil. I have been searching for a course like this forever. Nandri this really helped

  • Can you believe, I'm indian of Tamil Nadu heritage but i don't know how to speak it. My parents know but they wanted me speak more English. I only know certain words and sentences in tamil but i can never say them out loud. I'm too embrassed. this definitely helps.

  • This series is badass! I'm a "Californized" heritage speaker, so the listening comes natively to me but I can't produce speech worth a damn. Thank you so much for uploading these!

  • i need this cos i am a tamil indian who does not know his mother tongue!!!

  • @miketbosa Sorry, I don't understand: how can anyone not know their own mother tongue (ie your first language), unless

1 you are a baby so haven't acquired one yet (clearly this does not apply to you)

or you moved to a place where nobody speaks it so forgot it

  • Hello,

I'm french, and my boyfriend comes from sri lanka, in his family they always speak tamil, so i would like to learn tamil, for a better communication between us, so thank you very much, i was searching something like that since 6 months so thank you, you do very good job! bye !

  • Thank you very much! It helps me to pronouce better with english wording! Nandri! 5stars for U!

  • Thank you ,very nice video for learn tamil language.......!!!!!!

  • Tip on pronouncing na and Na.

na : Tounge rather straight touching just behind the teeth, and say na

Example : manam (mind) , Asoka vanam ( like in Ramayana where Sita was kept )

Na : Tounge curled inwords touching the top inside, and say Nnnna

    Example : MaNam ( fragrance ) ,

    PaNam ( Money ) , VaNakkam ( greetings) .

Even News readers in popular Tamil TVs make mistake in pronouncing, and the meaning is completely spoilt.

    People should practice.

  • You know what my friend's giving sri lankan dialect tamil lessons and I'm always strugling with the pronounciation. This helped! Nandri

  • Very very sweet. Good pronouciation of Tamil letters such as na and Na, la and La etc. A bit stylish like, Saapadu and not Chapadu , like we country people speak :) or Soodu and not Choodu, again as we village people. say Choodu : )) . I really liked this method. Brilliant work on the whole. God bless.

  • This is great...I could atleast get some words..the following parts are also good..I just need to communicate with someone to atleast remember all that I learnd here...

    Thanks for posting this..!!

  • I'll be really honest, i'm having a hard time with the pronouncation. na and NA?

  • Thank you, may God grant you merit for teaching us this holy language... I love Tamil so much and I regret myself for can't speaking it...

  • Hi I'm a keralite. I want to larn spoken Tamil. Will pls provide in this site SPOKEN TAMIL lessons, not LITERARY TAMIL. Thanking you.

  • Oh, can I just check this...

    Is it:

    Kalai - morning

    Malai - evening

    Salai - afternoon

    ?

The kiddies in the orphanage were teaching me but we got a bit confused at this point and I possibly wrote them down muddled up?

  • The common term for afternoon is madh-yaa-nam. It's also called sa-yin-dhram or saa-yan-kaa-lam.

Saa-lai generally refers to a road.

  • Thanks! Yeh I did see lots of roads named that... Like Anna Salai etc. I don't know what the kids were trying to teach me then!

  • @desidame4eva hey ! In Telugu also the term for afternoon is madh-yaa-nam..Really thanks there i wud love to learn Tamil Totally

  • @desidame4eva but Sa-yin-dhram or saa-yan-kaa-lam means evening and not afternoon.

  • Kalai is morning and Malai is Evening : )

  • Nalla! Nandri :)

I went to Chennai for 3 months to work with a charity and picked up quite a bit of Tamil but trying to learn more now. Wish I had this before!

Abi Tamil patikiran. Ennakuh conja terion. Ennakuh Tamil pavum!

    x

  • Hey, that's great! Glad that this is of help to you.

Hmmm....not sure what you meant by the last sentence though :) (pavum=?)

  • Pavum means "bad" I thought? Maybe the way I've spelt it phonetically is wrong. I'm trying, heehee :-)

  • Your phonetics was alright, I just didn't get what the sentence meant.

Pavam has a few meanings, sin, pity being the most common.

If you're trying to say your Tamil is not good (it's good by the way) you can say 'En Tamil nalla illai'.

'My Tamil is so-so' = 'En Tamil sumaara irrukku'

  • Oh yeh, because you say "good" and make it a negative. So it's "not good". Thanks for that! I'll be moving onto the next videos soon so may have more questions then :)

  • yi na poringe
