Inserting data in SQLite database Xcode tutorial part 2

I can query a database table, but I can not update or insert or delete from the database. Do I need open the database in the delegate.m file? I am opening the database in my view controller subclass when to update data on the form.

What does CheckAndCreateDB do? I don't understand the databasePathFromApp and the toPath
