Firefly is a much deeper, richer experience. You get to know much more about all of the people and what makes each one tick. And it is a tremendous set up for the movie.
Serenity is the payoff that reveals the answers to many of the mysteries that were developed in the series. (And doesn't reveal quite a few others. Still waitin' on that sequel, Joss.)

Never saw the series or movie - its definately on my list of things to catch up on.
Do you think its a good idea to watch Serenity without seeing the Firefly series first?

it's no a big problem if you watch the movie first, but you will not know exactly why they are doing this or that

@karlking1995 the movie came out in 2005, but i don't know any channel that is showing the show (best would be you buy the dvd)

I'd watch the Firefly TV series first, as you get loads of character back story, which then adds more depth to the movie.
