I was going to say the same thing. People often confuse words ending with isms because they believe the root word pertains to its non ism form. For example many people believe Naturalism is loving nature, and an "avid naturalist" is someone who enjoys being outside. Naturalism is a form of philosophy.
The romanticism put aside, they also made an advert for porn in the EU... That sure gives others a nice idea of Europe => that's lame. they disabled comment on the said advert. So I'm commenting here :-).
How many of the shown films are originally in English, German or French?
How come that we 'unfortunatelly' that has another thounge are left out - strange because most of the best films in Venecia, Cannes or Berlin in recent year has been in 'minor languages' according to this page - ONLY GB, FR or GR - that makes me go Grrrr...
I am glad they support the production of movies. Otherwise European movies would simply be driven by the money they make, and end up being like the US movies. At least the European movies have a bit more than just blonde bimbos, explosions and beautiful people.
You have to realize not ALL American films are terrible. Just lately, August Rush came out, which was incredible and moving. We also came up with Titanic, The Godfather, Casablanca, Fight Club, Forrest Gump, and Jaws, just to name a few blockbusters. Numerous independent films never made it big, but were spectacular, too, like Sex, Lies, and Videotapes, Clerks, Stranger Than Paradise, and Drugstore Cowboy. We're not all McDonalds-grubbing, lazy-ass, rich semi-schizos.
I don't see the point of government(s) promoting and subsidizing movies. This has little to do with culture, and a lot with directing government transfer to a particular group.
I find the whole idea of 'our movies are better than your movies' misguided.
European cinema: I love you! Je t'aime! Ich liebe dich! Ti amo! Te amo! Kocham cie! Szeretlek! Te iubesc! Minä rakastan sinua! S'ayapo! Jag aelskar dig! Volim te! etc. etc.
