I know sugar is the number 1 precursor to acne. Sugar raises insuline levels and will stimulate hormones. These hormones will promote secretion and lead to acne. Moreover, sugar will decrease immune resistance and will give bacteria a better environment to grow.
i don´t get i have acne , iv never had it in my life , now that i´m 17 am getting a lot of them , could you get them from eating to much protein or somthing ? from stuff like proteinshakes ?
@healthyvegan iv stopped using my proteinshake for about 2 weeks not but it´s still getting worse , i don´t gett it , i´m in a very good shape , i have always had a strict diet 40 % meat 30% vegatables , 30 %, carbs, i almost never eat fast food and iv always had good skin , but the last 2 weeks iv got so much acne i didn´t think it was possible to get pimples this fast , so i started drinking alot of water, using acne creams , eating alot of vitamine C, it´s not working ! help
@almir185 if you haven't made any changes to your diet recently, it could be a change in hormone levels as you get older. Try cutting back on meat and dairy - or cut it out entirely if you can - you might find that makes a huge difference!
@almir185 What are you washing your face with. A good diet helps with acne, but it also makes a difference what you are putting on your face from the outside. I'm a certified skin care analyst with over 10 years of experience and continued training. You may need to start using a 3 step system to clear up the acne. Whatever you do, do not wash your face with bar soap. It will only dry you out and cause more acne.
i think i have a slight addiction to celery :P since i became vegan i was able to stop using that horrible overpriced acne brand proactiv, i still use there green tea moisturiser but i love my new diet :) thanks healthyvegan you have helped me be able to make a lot more interesting meals and that's helpful to a 19 year old! :) would you be able to to a video on breakfasts? i find it hard to find something healthy, nutritious and fast for the morning, also one on healthy smoothies for summer :)
I still use proactiv, even though I eat very healthy! I am on a 95-100% raw diet atm.
I still break-out occasionally.... usually 2-3 zits. There's a cycle going on that I keep getting these zits. You think I should stop using proactiv? But I am afraid to break-out badly.. unless I can control it on my current diet.
FOr me it's always been stress. If i get stressed I get pimples. And also really oily foods. Like french fries etc so in case I do eat oily food i drink a few glasses of warm water immediately after.
Heather-thank you so much for the excellent information, recipes and encouragement you provide!
I would LOVE to see you do a video on the topic of- 'How to clean your veggies & fruits'. I am just ramping up my healthier ways and find this to be a concern.
Thanks for the video. I've noticed drinking rooibos tea helps you keep a clear skin. Also green/white tea helps my skin looks radiant. I drink 2 cups of coffee every morning but the rest of the day I keep my self active with green tea.
And don't forget exercise! I've found doing 50 min of yoga/pilates (almost) every day keeps your skin, body and mind healthy. I recommend meditation aswell. I'm male (26) and I've always have had skin problems. I've been vegetarian/vegan for 15 years.
Something I forgot to mention is that I use olive oil soap when I am in the shower and also when I get up in the morning to wash my face... That has saponified olive oil but it doesn't seem to have a bad effect on my skin (my skin is nicer now!), so maybe the structure is different from regular olive oil.. I've been using the soap every day for months now but with reg olive oil I eat it & within a few days i get pimples.. it is just very strange. maybe it's not from the evoo but I think so.
(cont.) Does this mean that I'm allergic to olive oil or that it is toxic to my body? If it keeps giving me pimples I don't want to eat it anymore. The interesting thing is that when I used to get pimples, they'd leave scars on my skin but since I haven't continued using the olive oil the pimples that were there go away "clearly" & there is no scar on my skin from where they were. I also got chia seeds finally! One question: do they have to be ground like flax seeds for me to absorb the omega 3?
I swear olive oil gives me acne (and I use organic extra virgin).. I hadn't had any for a month and my skin was so clear!! It was amazing because my skin had never been to the point where I had no pimples at all (I normally don't have many just maybe 1, 2, or 3). Then a couple weeks ago, I got some olive oil again to use & mind you I didn't even heat it, just used it on top of pasta & then some point later I got two pimples on my cheek... hmm.. I haven't used it in a week & my skin is clearing.
@veganheart1 the oil in your soap will have a really different effect than the oil you eat. My best guess would be that it's either some bit of toxin from processing or more likely just the concentrated fat. Some people can digest fats better than others, and your liver might be slightly sluggish. Try doing a liver cleanse, and then see if you can handle the olive oil. And chia should be ground :)
My husband and I finally got clear skin by doing a few different things: we went "no-poo" and that made a huge difference in HIS skin... and now we eat three or more almonds a day and that cleared MY skin. Yeah.. that's it. Now, I only clean my face with cold cream (aka lotion) and every once in a while an oatmeal exfoliation. I can even get away with wearing makeup now... which is amazing.
I had hypertension high blood pressure and acne on my back i went vegan and now those problems are gone i also did exersice went from 270 july 4 2011 to 211 pounds november 1. Vegan diet definitly cleared up my acne
Ever since I went vegan my skin has been clear and my hair has been shiny and full. However, stress and sugar cause me to have a few minor break-outs here and there. Thanks for all of your great videos!
Thank you for such an informative video. Borage Oil (rich in Gamma Linoleic Acid) worked wonders to control my hormonal, cystic acne. I also take 10,000-12,000 mg of Vitamin C in divided doses. Plus, I keep processed foods to a minimum.
This video was so helpful, thank you so much! Is there a place I can find out more about the green smoothie cleanse, like what ingredients to use and guidelines and such?
@ummitslauren@83mistyleeann if you search my channel (or my site - healthy eating starts here dot com) for 'detox', I filmed a series of videos about cleansing :)

@almir185 maybe there's extra sugar & preservatives in your protein? or is it soy protein? you may be reacting to soy or some other allergen
