Actually, by definition, they are pretty much the same--different outcome, of course. A lynching is a murder, driven by a group or mob, typically based on flimsy, if any evidence of a crime.
not sure the relevance. King lived in the south, where the Democratic party was run by "Dixiecrats", whose membership consisted of people like Orval Faubus and Strom Thurmond. These individuals left the Democratic party and became Republicans after Johnson signed Civil Rights legislation. Keep your comments in perspective. And King 'campaigned' for LBJ, a Democrat.
As I read these posts, I am even more proud to be a Trinitarian. These blogs so appropriately underscore the lynching that is going on here. Otis Moss is right on point! PREACH PASTOR!
The Rev. Wrong making a moronic statement that Whitey Gov gace aids to the black community, instead of saying God Bless America he says God damn America, nice real nice. yeah, big bad Whities, sing another song, that one is old.
I actually was planning on voting for obama but now that I see his choices in So-called preachers, I will proudly vote to Mccain. I grew up in the 60's and what is being preached is the same crap the black panters preached..
If you would vote for Mcain over Obama you have other issues. You are voting for 100 more years of war. You are voting for a man who wants to continue the bush tax cuts and continue the same politics that have brought us in to 2 near reccessions.
somebody needs to tell this guy that NPR is one of the most liberal networks there is. He should really know what he is saying before he runs his mouth.
Great Easter service. Way to preach the meaning of the rising of Christ.
To compare that old racist, old goat with Christ is sad, to say the least. I bet Christmas service is a gem as well. sad person.
here to fore race was a large rambunctious Elephant in the china closet which everyone ignored. Can't you see that? Apparently all you can see is that "this preacher is hostile". Newsflash: we don't whisper in our churches. We are a vocal people. We go to church to hear the word deciphered and bring our lives into context. How dare you judge my church. I don't judge yours. Visit a handful of black churches and bring your biracial grandchildren. Then get back at us.
To feb apparently you were not taught to be objective. If you listen he is pointing out that Jesus had more visibility on the cross than throughout his entire ministry: Though someones character is being assassinated through negative publicity it is giving them the opportunity to present their message to a wider audience. I relate this directly to Barack being given the opportunity to give the speech on race that has finally bought an important dialogue to the American people.
I can't believe how people miss the point. This statement transcends race. He is comparing any public assassination of character to the crucifixion and lynching. He never said black white. If you weren't racist yourself you would see that this can too apply to a white person or any other culture member whose character is being assassination without merit while others who are aware of the injustice keep their mouths closed. "Speak Life back to them" is a statement of loving your enemy.
PS- In in this day /age there's equality for those who choose to be "equal". I feel this Preacher portrays Racism towards "ME" for the past happenings. "Thank God you're an American with opportunity to live in best country, USA." This church perhaps should count their blessing and pray for impoverished in Africa - This will NOT help Obama's campaign, but just cause more crap for him to deal with.
If what you say is true, the church should start praying for America. Last time I looked the global society was streaking forward and America since 1999 has been at the trailing edge of a widening global achievement gap of industrialized countries. Matter of fact in math and science we have fallen off the bottom of all the achievements list of those same industrialized countries.
So while we're preoccupied with race, the world continues to move on...
This Preacher is hostile dwells on what happened over 200 yrs. Ago. I agree it's disgraceful what when on. But, I have nothing to do with 200 yrs, 1960's or now. Sadly there's still bigots in this world I dislike them, as well. BTW, I was raised to respect all mankind and have 2 bi-racial grand children that I Love.
Great! I see you're one of the enlightened few who does believe in a just society, who embraces concepts of affirmative action, and who shares the wealth and privileges bequeathed to you by your ancestors, who built this country with free land and free labor with those marginalized during those 200 years and didn't benefit from a head start.
Al Sharpton put it best when he said that our generation may not have to deal with Jim Crow, but we DO have to deal with his grandson, John Crow, Esq. In other words, our generation may not have to deal with being lynched, we may no longer be physically bonded to slavery, but we are still enslaved when it comes to education and the work force. febe, do you think it's a coincidence that our generation is standardized tested to death, just to graduate from high school? I think not.
Good choice. I suggest you re-read the whole speech again. Start with the first paragraph and notice that he describes the "shameful condition" for the "Negro" since the Emancipation Proclamation, where "one hundred years later, the Negro is still languished in the corners of American society and finds himself in exile in his own land." Now which part of the dream are you referring to? the little black boys and girls holding hands as a result of "No Child Left Behind?
Also, it's pretty obvious with the virulent attacks on Jeremiah Wright, that Dr. King's dream still hasn't been realized since "all of God's children" are not yet singing "Free at last, free at last; thank God Almighty, we are free at last." Hopefully Barack Obama as president will accelerate us towards Dr. King's vision.
I find it ironic when people make posts about people following Dr. King's dream. (Not sure what info you have to back up your statements--certainly no stats) People who say that focus on the last part of one of the numerous speeches he gave and nothing else. You need to check out his VietNam speech--its on Youtube...or read the Letter from a Birminham jail for starters
Enough of this already. I am a supporter of Barack Obama and You're only hurting Barack Obama's campaign- he's is trieng to unite the country. Exactly, what is your goal..? Marin L. King jr. would be ashamed of you.
And is your point that we should shut up, close our eyes and minds? The operative word is unite, not assimilate. Unite requires open mindedness on all sides.
BTW, what in particular would Dr. King be ashamed of?
What is wrong with this church. Jesus was not lynched. Jesus was God in human flesh, we the creation have not power to kill the creator. Study the scriptures, Jesus laid down his life, and PRAISE GOD HE PICKED IT BACK UP AGAIN.
'technically' Jesus wasn't lynched because there was some 'legal authority' given for it. While as a Christian, you know the *real* purpose of the crucifixion, the people who followed through with it did not. A mob mentality was involved, lack of evidence to support a crime was involved, murder was involved. What's the difference between the crucifixion of Jesus and a lynching?
Seems like blacks are the ones with hatred in their hearts, give up the slave shit already. I work and also clean my own house. Hmmm, guess I be a slave huh? Those who want to succeed in the USA will, pay attention in school and you can get good jobs too. For those who say God Damn Americia get da hell out of Americia. You are no longer slaves, you have the right to leave.
Our Black folks are speaking out in the open what your ancestors were too cowardice to say in public...which is the SAME reason that when they came out they had hoods on. You all came here uninvited and then you went and got some people to build a country that your lazy behinds would not do. Give me a break,.,..the shoe is on the other foot now and you all are having fits about it. You are just as free to leave and go back back to where you and your ancestors came from.
When are black Americans going to realize that Africa does NOT want YOU back. They sold your cheap ugly asses in the first place and Africans consider black americans inferior. You people are so stupid. You ACtually had people who supported you and your pathetic affirmative action-the clintons but now you've burned all your bridges-good! Fools you deserve what you get.
is any one listeing to this stuff its okay to say what they want about white people and the USA but not about Blacks what kind of freedom is this so one side it but its been that way a long time now right
I don't think there will be too much to grab ahold of here. People know about the church and its social gospel. It is ironic but I do agree with many analysts saying this will backfire on the media and help Obama in the end. God Bless this church for speaking out against the media. Most people are not brave enough to do this.
I wonder how much of was left out of the sermon? I just want to encourage Rev.Wright and Trinity --- remember, "Whatever the devil means for evil, God will work it for your good!" Look beyond the adversity and look for the Hand of God at work in the situation! Rejoice. Let Christ be seen in you. Stay in the LOVE Of GOD! Forgive! God is adding to your ministry!
I been wondering why nobody came to save him and its still the same today in many ways.

If Dr. King were alive today he'd find the current black leaders disgraceful.
They no more see "judging on character" than those of the KKK. Today's so called black leaders are racists.
The percentage of the black community that hates whites, FAR outweighs the percentage of whites that hate blacks.
Those whites are back woods idiots. Whereas the blacks that hate whites are MOST abundant.
Majority of whites followed Dr. King's Dream. Too bad the blacks wont.
