Space flight is still our greatest technical achievement. We should never get tired of watching this or taking for granted the way it happens so routinely.
but does anyone else agree that we should be focussing more on the problems on earth, then reaching out to the stars? Dont get me wrong, im a true trekkie and all, i love space! but surely there must be a cheaper way of doing, and maybe using the other funds for like... poverty aid? also... im not dismissing that we shouldnt go to space, maybe we should just wait a little longer.... or maybe do it in a more affordable way. Just my two cents worth
I AGREE. We must change the way our resources are being used and waisted today, stop using fuel and develop Solar Fields to save energy for centuries!!!
I AM WILLING TO WORK ONLINE AND INTERNATIONALY!!!
I'm glad they showed the HUD. I remember trying the simulator at KSC - it was not easy - I really respect those people. Congratulations to the crew, and welcome home!
Awesome. :-D It was pretty funny on Twitter earlier.. got a sudden influx of tweets from people in California reacting to the sonic booms. About 20 people I follow (within a few seconds of each other) tweeted "WTF was that?!" and "Did we just have an earthquake??" (A few were more informed and tweeted things like "Wheee! Sonic booms! Welcome home Discovery!") Wish I could've heard the booms from London! Welcome back, Discovery. Nice landing!
Awesome! The video really captures the speed at which the Shuttle lands and the rapid descent. Wish you could include some of the telemetry like altitude, airspeed, and rate of descent. Next time maybe?
Team USA? NASA is American, but people over there do it for the whole humanity too :) And part of the mission involves the international space station. And international involves several countries.
What happens when you just had a 5,700,000 mile journey and you have ONE shot to get back to Earth? You land that sucker! Right on the mark. Mission completed. Team USA is home! AWESOME WORK!

Welcome back Discovery! However, what are the fumes that seem to come out of the wings at the begining? Does anyone know?
bonnano 2 years ago
think they are just moisture being compressed by airflow.
hotty198 2 years ago
Just condensation trails.
mach25man 2 years ago
edges of the wings create friction with the air and compress it, i dont know why it appears so dark though.

I cannot understand American people.
I am not american but I live in America.
Every time when there is shuttle launch or shuttle landing I feel like a special day.
People I talk dont even know that there is a launch.
This is THE unique thing Americans do for humanity. it should be subject to large celebrations I think.
