  • Religion wise, the Taliban would be the approximate equivalent to Christianity's KKK. Not all Muslims are Taliban just as not all Christians are KKK. It's that simple. I can't believe people are still ignorant enough to put that kind of stereotype on someone.

    Ignorance is blinding.

  • like "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH." i like that one i'll keep that permision??? -nerd fighters i love you all....... in a non creepy way if thats possible

  • 1:00 - Apology accepted.

  • I enjoy watching the growth of John's puff as the video goes on.

  • I love that you pronounce "Iran" correctly. The common mispronunciations are probably my biggest pet peeves ever. Especially the ones that make it sound like "I ran to the market".

  • You are one of the most intelligent people I have ever encountered (on the web and real life). And I really enjoy the way you describe religion.

  • We should all just go to Pigfarts.

  • I love it when John gets all eye-poppingly angry.

  • @andy152R true but that doesnt mean that people need to flip out whenever they see a muslim and automatically think their gonna blow them up

  • Hi, my names Amber and I'm half Iranian and half English and to pick the one I care about the most is like picking my faveourite leg.. Thank you for making this video, there are alot of dooshes out there that seem to think that we only need to care about thing that directly involve ourselves.. Dftba! P.s, I bought your book and French the llama it's good.

  • ninjas :D

  • I seem to agree with these guys on lots of things except ninjas pirates yarrr

  • WTF?? A lot of Iranians (those fighting for freedom) HATE Islam and want NOTHING to do with it!! They are all pro-America and hate this 'anti-West' mentality! You people should learn more about the Iranian people. They are DEFINITELY NOT "all muslim who want to destroy America". That's bullshit!!

  • @tarun1982 but then, that's what Ahmedinejad wants you to believe!.. and guess he succeeded ain?..

  • i love you. i want you to be my second best friend.

  • You wanna live on Mars... SO YOU CAN GO TO PIGFARTS. :D AVPM <3

  • so true

  • gonna be honest. had to turn the volume down about half way through. but you do speak truth. and that is why it's ok.

  • I'm revisiting this video after having watched it several times, but the profound power behind John's words continue to astound me.

  • Wow. Incredibly insightful, John. Thanks for offering your thoughts to us.

  • ninjas...

  • The fault in ourselves

  • Its sad to see ppl not think before they text. We have the most powerful tools to work with but we use it to say stupid things.

  • Ninjas, FTW!!!

  • God, this guy is incredibly freaking intelligent. Inspirational, uplifting, enlightening. Pure gold. Carry on, Mister Green. Carry on.

  • Giant angry squid face made me laugh so hard.

  • You started to rant. Repeatedly.

  • "Nerd jokes, nerd jokes, nerd jokes!" I know that was not the point of this video, but I'd just like to say that I got it and loved it. :)

  • I found it funny that John picks ninjas...meanwhile, there are pirates on his shelf.

  • When this video ended, I almost stood up and clapped. But I was in a library -_+

  • As an aspiring theologist, i approve this message.

  • i propably watched this like 20 times but the finale gives me a chill everytime i hear i

  • john green speaks sensically

  • I cannot explain how much I love your passion..

  • clicked here from thier "sell outs!" video and this video has a ad for single muslin dot com

  • People who think all muslims are terroists do u no anything about relgion!!!! Just because some terroists are muslim (they arent really muslim even) does not mean all muslims are terroists thats like saying all black people are theifs, or all christians are crazy people who try to shove our relgion down ur throat because its just not true!! Just because one person of a group or culture is one way does not mean they all are

  • @booknerd12345511 Nope, they're not all terrorists. But... true Muslims are all violent towards non believers. That's a fact. And yes, religious theology is one of my areas of vast knowledge, so don't think you can argue that point. I've been to over 20 Islamic countries as well. I know exactly what they think of non-Muslims.

  • @Andy152R

Then you, my friend, have learned nothing in all of your trips!!

It might help if you read more religion, less theories and explanations of it.

  • @Andy152R That's not wholly true, as Muslims respect Christianity and Judaism as fellow "people of the book", as they all come from the same fore-father

  • @Andy152R Naaah. there's no terrorism in islam. i, for a fact hv many non muslim friends and i'm not violent to them nor to anyone else. and nobody i know is violent neither. get your facts straight bro.

  • @booknerd12345511 well said sir/miss! :)

  • See the funny thing about his pointing in the wrong direction is that now there is no "side"bar, it's on the bottom. So he ends up pointing in the wrong direction...even though he pointed in both directions.

  • I like how he says he prefers ninjas yet there are two pirate dolls behind him. :)

  • You sir are a genius :)

  • suicide bombers are not muslims too note : i am not from iran i dont like iran too

  • Muslims can not be terrorists because if you are terrorist you go straight to hell also if you suicide you go to hell i am a musilm and i am not terrorist

  • Why aren't you...the leader of the universe?

  • "I MEAN WE SHARE A FRICKEN PLANET."

  • eeeeep, John's shouting at me *hides*

  • W00T NINJA'S!

  • I believe that as John gets progressively angrier throughout the video, his poof gets bigger, and his face gets redder....

  • I love how his face got red at 2:31 LOL!

  • ABUJA (Reuters) - Islamist militants set off bombs across Nigeria on Christmas Day - three targeting churches including one that killed at least 27 people - raising fears that they are trying to ignite sectarian civil war. The Boko Haram Islamist sect, which aims to impose sharia law across the country, claimed responsibility for the three church bombs, the second Christmas in a row the group has caused mass carnage with deadly bombings of churches. all faiths r evil !

  • muslim nerdfighter from pakistan reporting for duty

  • @sk90y lol.. i said doodi in my head..

  • That's a nice pony you got there.

  • one of the reasons i liked the video isY coz you prononced Iran correctly and not i-Ran.

  • thank you finally and you honestly educate me more than school does and you are completely and utterly right it's the people not the faith

  • John wants to go to pigfarts.....0_o

  • Does anyone actually prefer pirates over ninjas?

  • John, you are wonderful.

  • Amen bro.

  • john can be really scary sometimes.

  • I know you're yelling at the giant squids of anger... but I was like, "Oh, okay! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it! please forgive me!"

  • John Green 2012

  • Also, this is the third video of yours that I've seen, I already love them (sorry for any gramitical mistaks, I really suck at laguage arts).

  • 1:40 I would love to help you terriform mars and live away from earth, someone get me some O2 canisters and plant seeds.....

  • He reminds me of Onision when he rants, just a lot more likable

  • *GASP* he revealed his religion

  • What does he mean by "revelation"?

  • The awkward moment when the only thing where John is pointing is an ad for SingleMuslim...

  • And this is why you're my favorite brother.

  • Finally, somebody who has some sense. Seriously, sometimes I wonder how these people can be THAT stupid.

I'd like to live on Mars, too. Or Venus.

  • That last line was incredible.

  • hahahaha your face gets extremely red when your angry! XD. But I totally agree!! I read this article that a muslim women wrote about her treatment in america and how everyone assumed she was a terrorist because she was muslim....... I cried.... then when I read the comments and how FLIPPIN STUPID PEOPLE ARE!!!! Well I screamed a little, cryed, and then cried some more!! ............ wow I sound like a total crier!! (I'm really not, just when I'm really mad)

  • And we all have to pick one side.

    Ninjas.

  • There are extremists in every religion!!! I think we all need to remember that....

  • oh my gosh, thank you!!!!!! Now I am assured that there is at least one sane person on this planet. (actually, I know there are many sane and reasonable people on this earth, but one wouldn't think so based on the internet, tv, music etc...)

  • @katnissblue99 Look at the number of likes on this video! I agree, it's very recomforting. ^^

  • AHHHH I LOVE YOU

  • Wow. I'm a Muslim and you hit the nail on the head. You can also be quite scary when you're angry. But frackin' profound. Bloody hell.

  • I am an Iranian and I approve this message.

  • John is a little bit terrifying when he's angry.

  • John, I love you.

    That is all.

  • NINJAS. YES. THANK YOU.

  • JOHN GREEN FOR PRESIDENT!!!! THIS IS NOT A JOKE!!!!!! LETS MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE- JOHN GREEN 4 PRES!!! I'm so frikkin serious, man- this is what this country- what this WORLD- needs.

  • it seems that as the video goes on, john gets louder

  • Hey, um, John, I don't know if you're reading this but, um, you ah got a little, um, giant brown thing on your face that is in proximity to your mouth... I know you can't fix it now, which makes it hilarious... No offense of course

  • john got really deep really fast, personally I am an atheist but I have SOME things in common with christians but I don't worship their god or believe in their heaven or hell, hell I don't believe in anything=)

  • I always love reading nerdfighter comments because most of the people commenting aren't idiots.

  • You know, your words make so much sense. If we were to compare this video with another trying to explain the same topic, the level of intelligence would be extremely far apart. The amount of ignorance some people continuously insist on holding amazes me.

  • My refutation to the claim that you should care about America is that America and Iran are simply both arbitrarily set boundaries and selected ideals, religions, etc... that people decided suited them at some point or another, and therefore the concept that caring about one country more than another is irrelevant.

  • Now I'm not sure I entirely agree that "the revelation isn't the problem" but I do agree that nearly all of the "religious" difficulties everywhere are actually human problems, and it makes no sense to lump people into groups of stereotypical radicals just because they happen to believe in the same set of deities as a radical group. A deity can certainly be a problem though. . . I don't think any worldsuck has ever been reduced by devil worshipers. . . .

  • Hot Damn, This guys should be our president...

  • The last part of this video is amazingly intelligent enough to make up for most of the amazingly stupid comments I have read. John: 1 WorldSuck: 0

  • This was posted on my birthday, and my brothers name is Sean (that's how we spell it.)

  • And yet again, a vlogbrother has posted a video that makes incredible sense and has taught me about something I previously knew next to nothing about.

Your rants are a jillion times more intelligent than the average Internet user's, John. Not to mention how amusing your radish-coloured skin is as you become more and more impassioned.

  • My favorite moments of this video: "WE SHARE A FREAKIN' PLANET!" And "Religion is a response to revelation...the revelation isn't the problem - we are."

  • Religion is not actually the way that people interpret revelations, rather that there is an original form of Religion that was taught to the people on this planet by the prophets of their creator. The people decided to go astray of the original and unmodified form of Religion and to follow the basic human desires, also leading the people themselves to modify the scriptures or teachings of the original Religion to their personal liking. There are original religious scriptures that have been neve

  • @BringBRToTheUK I'm a physics nerd who was brought up catholic, and i still go to church on sundays. One of my friends, also a physics nerd, is a pagan. Another physics nerd I know is an atheist. Is there any difference in intelligence between us other than what we were born with? I think it's a bit backward to assume most Christians are less intelligent than atheists, and I don't think your religion impacts on your intelligence at all. How could it? We don't blindly follow dogma, we think abou

  • @ProfThrax I don't think it's that hard - most of the religious people I know at least believe in the big bang theory and evolution. As a physics nerd who is also loosely catholic (i.e. I believe in a god and that he/she had some hand in making the universe) I don't think science and religion are mutually exclusive. I think god is a perfectly reasonable explanation of what caused the big bang.

  • preach it

  • John, you can't go to Pigfarts! Its on Mars! You need a rocketship! Do you have a rocketship John? I bet you do! Hey, look at this everybody! Rocketship John! Star kid John, Moonshoes John, traversing the galaxy on intergalactic travels to Pigfarts!

  • Beyla Shalom, Boheme Li

  • John. You rock. So much. GAH.

(Please forgive my intentionally incorrect grammer :) )

  • Now I'm gonna feel like a stupid commenter, 'cause this has nothing to do with religion or Iran, but I'd wanted to go to Mars too. I wanna meet Rumbleroar.

  • I liked what you said near the end, "With every revelation...", could I quote you on that?

  • 1:30 is now my answer to all troll-like comments

    WE SHARE A FRIKIN PLANET

  • Thanks John. A lot of annoying people have been giving me crap about my religion. Now I can just tell them to stop being so ignorant and go watch this video. Granted, they probably don't watch the video at all and call me a terrorist nerd, but at least I know that the majority of the world is not intolerant. I love both you and Hank -3 -3 -3

    DFTBA

  • loved the part about religion. i feel the same way as you. youre one of my heroes! thank youuuuu.

  • I wish I was a nerd. I'm pretty dumb. :0( its not easy guys

  • @Music4ever248 Don't say that. You don't have to be a genius to be a nerd. You just have to remember to be awesome! :)

  • I fucking love John Green. Excuse the language. I felt it was necessary.

  • wow...passion there...

  • Can we just replace politicians with John and Hank clones? That would be awesome.

  • someone WHO HAS SENSEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm sorry but no, I refuse to pick between ninjas and pirates both are equally good infact there are such things as ninja pirates. I WILL NOT CHOOSE!!!

  • OH GOSH, JOHN YOU CANT GO TO PIGFARTS! ITS ON MARS! YOU NEED A ROCKETSHIP. DO YOU HAVE A ROCKET SHIP?! (If you do give my regards to Rumbleroar)

  • This video just made my day as a half Iranian half English agnostic Essex girl :)

  • He's a christian? :S I thought he was intelligent.

  • @BringBRToTheUK He is intelligent. Intelligence does not equal lack of faith. Just because he is able to put his faith in something that he cannot see does not mean he is incapable of using logic, and understanding. I fail to see why someone's faith should cloud your perspective of them... To me that's like saying "Oh he's athiest? I thought he had feelings"

  • @TheMadMsHatter There is no correlation between having no feelings and being an atheist. However, there is a very strong correlation between one's intelligence and their ability to blindly trust in something for which there is absolutely no empircal evidence.

  • @BringBRToTheUK That's a very biased statement. There is no correlation between either of the previous things mentioned. I know that I'm not going to be able to change your opinion, but I think you're being very close minded. How a person believes the universe came into existence does not change their capacity for holding and processing information, which, by definition, is what intelligence is. But if you feel that strongly that all people with faith are unintelligent, then that's your business

  • @TheMadMsHatter You may not want to believe that, but there has been research made into the matter that supports my statement. Please feel free to put your search engine to use before making factual statements in future.

Someone who describes themselves as a Christian, probably attends a church, conforms at whim to dogma, dismisses fact in favour for their groundless convictions etc.

Critical thinking and stalwarts to religion seldom go hand in hand.

  • @BringBRToTheUK What I'm saying, as well as what you're saying are both opinions. It is my opinion that religious people (which I am not) can be intelligent, and it is yours is that they cannot.

Christianity does not equal blindness to facts. John Green is very smart, as made obvious by the brilliant things he says. The fact that your image of him was ruined by the one statement that he is Christian simply shows that you're being close minded. Not all Christians are the same.

  • @TheMadMsHatter I said that there is a strong correlation between christianity and low intelligence - this doesn't mean there are no exceptions.

Statistics do not constitute an opinion - they are objective, not subjective. Numbers don't lie.

  • @BringBRToTheUK "Atheists score. . . 3.82 (IQ) points higher than Liberal persuasions. . ."

Right, right. 126.2 to 130 is a REALLY strong correlation between intelligence and Christianity.

By the way I got that from eric(.)gov. The article is called "The Intelligence-Religiosity Nexus: A Representative Study of White Adolescent Americans" Where did you get your information? Also, by assuming that John is unintelligent because he's religious is disallowing exceptions.

  • @TheMadMsHatter "A survey of Royal Society fellows found that only 3.3 per cent believed in God – at a time when 68.5 percent of the general UK population described themselves as believers."

However, the 3.3% are important. You were right when you said I am ignroing the role of exceptions, so let me rephrase: I don't respect the attributes that leads an individual to Christianity, and I think that they are below a person of intelligence. This doesn't mean that intellectuals never stoop.

  • @BringBRToTheUK Um... I think "probably" is the key word there. There are Christians who believe in evolution, too. You might want to put your search engine to use as well. Besides, I've read quite a lot about the scientific evidence that Christian faith is based on, and that is why I choose to believe in my religion. Whether you think that evidence is reliable or not is another matter entirely; the point is that I am not blindly believing in whatever the church tells me.

  • @deadstillcurious I would be very interested to see the scientific evidence upon which the Christian faith is based.

'Faith' is believing in something without evidence. If there was scientific evidence, it would be the Christian theory, rather than the Christian faith.

  • Finally some who realizes that man is the problem not religoin.

  • finally someone understands that Hitler just had a bad response to nazism

  • You know iv'e always discredited religion. Iv'e always just assumed that religion was only practiced by the fearful or the insane, but you really shed some new light on it for me. i guess iv'e just been brainwashed by the media only showing me the most radical sides of religion without counterbalancing that with some of the more positive sides. You have succeeded in making me a better person.

  • Independently bouncy hair at 2:22.

  • Amen!

  • Smart people on the internet? gasp.

Good point about religion, think to christianity, you have calvinists, catholics, episciples (god awful spelling), etc.

Judaism has reform, moderate and hisidic (I don't know of any others)

Islam has Sunni, Extreme Sunni, Shiite, Extreme Shiite, and Sufi.

There are tons of religions out there so we just gotta learn to deal with it. I don't care if you follow the church of the giant spaghetti monster, just don't kill people over it.

  • i love, how youtube made it easier for John to point to the description now.. since it's below... but it makes old videos like 5x funnier.. cause he's always pointing to the advert.

  • <3 passionate speeches by John.

  • "Religion is a response to revalation." I think I just had an epiphany. Now I shall steal this statement and write it on my Religion 202 midterm. Thank you Hank!

  • @gladrial89 Actually, that was John.

  • @CarmenWilyD Lol you're right. I mistyped. ;)

  • LOL, that was intense. Good job.

  • PIRATES! Also, great video. :)

  • Shaking, ranting John ftw.

  • NINJAS

  • I love John's rants; they always make me think.

  • @Migilax Done.

  • ''''Onomatopoeia: The property of a word of sounding like what it represents.''

Example: 'Giant squids of angry Bwahalpbwabwabwabwabwa'

In this case, 'Bwahalpbwabwabwabwabwa' represents unthoughtfull and stupid comments that in most cases consist of a intentionally misunderstood word.''

Can somebody post this on wikipedia for me please?

  • Next time someone I know discriminates against an entire religion because of one person they know who happens to be a jerk in that particular religion I am making them watch this.

  • wait, theres a My little pony behind you, this was before the new show...wow

  • So agree. Ninjas!

  • Comment removed

  • giant squid------avada kadavra problem solved

  • Although I enjoy watching the johns videos, I'm generally get made to feel quite stupid. So I probably shouldn't be watching them drunk :P

  • Thank you so much for this. I especially appreciate your point that religion is never made up of just one viewpoint, and that both religious and secular revelations can be used for good or bad. I am a christian myself and often I am embarrassed by the intolerant, uncaring, frankly unchristian attitudes of some of my fellow christians; and yet, far too often religion is written off as the source of all the world's problems and the reason for ignorance and bigotry, which simply isn't true.

  • @mustanglover12 I would say that in fact religion is a symptom of ignorance and biogtry, not the reason for it.

  • @Slapbass13

John is a Christian, would you call him ignorant for believing in a god? You seem to have entirely missed the point of the whole video, please open your mind and watch it again, you might learn something.

  • @jazzmen9611 And you, sir, would seem to have completely misread my comment.

I didn't say that religious people were ignorant and bigoted; all I sad was that on a societal level, religion is often the primary tool employed by the bigoted and the ignorant in order to back up their prejudices and impose their way of thinking on the majority.

Religious people are not all ignorant. In most cases, religion is a fantastic unifying force for community and enriches the life of the individual.

  • @Slapbass13

    Touche.

  • And they're all like,

    "ahblahblahblahblahblah!"

    Oh John. x)

  • Than you John. I am an atheist but I still hate it when people say Islam should be banned and that Muslims are extremely violent people when the majority of Muslims (and the same goes for all other religions) are extremely nice peaceful people even though there are a few extremists who are not so peaceful for whatever reason (obviously this too applies to all other religions)

  • FUCKING RACIST I AM A KURD AND I FUCKED YOU MOTHER ASSHOLE
