Actually with non GMO soy beans costing me less than $1 a pound on special and living a long way from the store here in the Sierras, and knowing how much soy milk and tofu we eat, its actually cheaper for me to make both at home.

i was able to make tofu, but the only problem was it did not turn as firm as yours, rather it was a powder. I even let it remain under pressure for 1.5 hrs. I used lime instead of calcium sulphate. what i did wrong?
Perhaps you could watch "traditional Indonesian style" tofu making, he uses lime and leaves overnight under pressure. You let it cool down to 40c for lime instead of 80C?
As a meat substitute, say chicken, would it be best to infuse the tofu with chicken bouillion or the like during the process of making it? I can't seem to make the tofu I cook with take on meat flavors. Everyone says to me "Oh..tofu will taste like anything you cook it with!" But it doesn't, it tastes like tofu. Bleh!

@ratnifab it's probably way cheaper to make tofu out of dried soybeans than buying it from the supermarket.. in case you don't count that during the time you're making tofu, you could be working at office. but i would probably prefer spending a hour to make tofu on my own than spending a hour at an it office :) diy is pretty relaxing.

my mom taught me how to make tofu a while back. i was amazed how much effort it took but satisfied by the result. We soak the soy bean in cold water for at least 24 hrs then take off the skin etc. once we did that we could scoop it into blender and squeeze the juice out. Then you boil the juice and then add lime juice :D
@yamiyomizuki Accually you should use dried ones and then cook them yourself. But people do use canned soy beans but i wouldnt do it because for some reason it has a silightly different taste the freshly cooked beans but its anyone's personal choice..
Maybe I might go vegetarian after I move to go to college. Were a typical Northern Mexican family so some form of meat is on every dinner. I'll have meat when I go visit my parents or when at a meeting.
lo, it's the same process as making cheese.. just with actually killing something ( soy plants) while in the process of making real cheese out of cow milk no animal gets hurt
@DeanMalenko well you are not entirely correct on ether front the soy plant is not killed as fr as i know and dairy cows while not killed are often horribly mistreated not to mention that cattle raising is real environmentally bad

@vampiremb2 You store tofu in an airtight container and leave it in the fridge. It expires in about 2 days, maybe longer or shorter.

did anyone notice that they say you can use lemon juice as a coagulant, but they have limes in the video, hahaha that's funny! But very well made video tho, i really enjoyed it. Thank you very much!
