hey im looking to lift my 77 ford. if i flip the leaf spring bracket in the rear and bolt or weld it back onto the frame will that work? if so how do i lift the front? whats the cheapest way to do a suspension lift. i also plan to do a 3 inch hockey puck lift. do you think i could get away with doing a 4 or 6 inch body lift? i also thought about removing the cab and bed and welding an ibeam on top of the frame and or bolting it on then putting the cab and bed back on.
@skar603 for the rear you would do a reverse shackle mod.(instead of flipping the whole shackle and bracket, you just cut a hole in the bottom of the bracket and hang the shackle through the bottom side for a gain of 4" give or take) then you can add blocks under the springs..make sense? the front.....pitman arm has to be modified as well as the sway bar lengthened and strut arm brackets lengthened if were talking about a 77 which has coil springs. might be better to buy that from dealer or used
@jwat528 ok makes sense. but im a lil lost on the front end. is there any other vehicle that has the longer parts that i could bolt on without too much effort? i heard something about taking off, flipping, switching sides, and bolting back on the existing parts, then i assume adding longer coil springs and shocks. do you have any links to websites that may be applicable?
@skar603 I owned an 83 bronco with a 6" body lift. You will have to modify the steering linkage between the wheel and the steering box. Lengthen the transmission linkage. and seriously cut the floorboard about 8" behind the 4x4 shifter to allow it to engage.
@jwat528 i have a 3 on the tree tranny right now so it doesnt have a floor shifter, what should i do with that. can ya check out my video and lemme know what you think. its titled redneck lift kit advice.
@skar603 You should come over to Ford Truck Enthusiasts . com and look in the 73-79 truck forum. Do a search, there are a ton of threads about lifting these trucks. Regardless if you do or not, don't use hockey pucks for a body lift. I wouldn't go larger than a 3" body lift either.
I hope the 84 f250 in bringing back to life will look as badass as this one does when I'm finished...great truck....these babies run on the blood of tree huggers...u can use that as fuel bc in these old trucks, there isn't as many gaskets and sensors to fry, and cost money to fix as today's plastic manifestations are...
@largemouthbassrigs .....I paid $2500 for it just as you see it. Only mods I did after buying it are the ladder bars and 5:42 Yukon gears since it had miss matched gears when I bought it. Top speed ended up being about 50mph's haha.
well im not talkin smack i think its nice i have a 77 f250custom and iv seen alot of fords and to me it just looked like the f100 emblem on the sides look like they are from a 76
yeah, it is impossible to swap motors huh? i have a 77 f150 4x4 with a 460, even though the f150's in 77 only came with a 460 in the TWO WHEEL DRIVE models......i always wondered why my title says its got a six cylinder instead of a BB V-8, seeings how its so impossible to swap motors.
Haha first of all, Ford doesn't compensate much for engine swaps by the way, which you quite obviously don't realize. GM's were easily swappable; they used similar, or identical engine mounts depending on the block size. Ford DID NOT and still does not do that. Do you realize the amount of effort it would take to put a 429 into a 79 F250 crate? The 429 was designed specifically for Mustangs, not pickups.
The cylinders are SO canted that they are almost Hemispherical. It wouldn't even be worth it to put a 429 into a pickup in the first place because of all the mods necessary to put it in the crate. THIS is why I posted that comment. Engines CAN be swapped, but the specific engine she said isn't even realistic.
Wrong again, two versions dumbass. The Huger 460 and the 429 run the same big block, but they have many differences that set them apart.. The 429 was designed specifically for the Mustang and racing in general.. BOSS 429 ring a bell? The "new" mustangs i'm afraid, aren't built like they were in 1969. It doesn't suprise me they share the same motor with an SUV..
okay, so to put an end to this.......explain to all of us what the difference is between CAR or MUSTANG horsepower and TRUCK horsepower? what makes a BLOCK, not a complete engine, better for a mustang than a pickup? and vice-versa.
If you really understood why I posted the comment in the first place, then we wouldn't be having this argument right now. THE 429 WAS NOT DESIGNED TO BE APPLIED TO A FORD PICKUP. The Huger 460 WAS indeed designed for pickups, because it has more torque. MORE TORQUE, MORE TOWING POWER.. hmm, but I guess Ford had no idea what they were doing when they were designing their engines in the mid 70's.
And for the record, just what the hell do you think you're saying telling me that the 460 only came in the two wheel drive model, on an F150?? The 460 was the biggest badass, almost specifically made for 4x4, heavy duty rigs. The F150 didn't even offer the 460, it was the F250.. to elaborate even more, i've never seen a FOUR wheel drive Six Gen. Ford truck, that had a straight six in it.. only 8 cylinders buddy..
okay, so......460's are "almost" specifically made for 4x4 pickups right? are you aware that the 429's and 460's are the SAME FUCKING BLOCK? and the 429 is designed specifically for mustangs? how is it that all motors are SPECIFICALLY good for only one vehicle? the new mustangs run the same motor as the explorer? F-150's have ALWAYS run the same motors as MUSTANGS........ and im talking FROM THE FACTORY here dipshit, 4.6 used in both cars and trucks, 302 in both, 351 in both, and so on.
yea I had a 77 F-150 Supercab We placed the body on a regular cab frame (1975 Frame) Droped a BB460 in it. thing was a Beast didnt have the lift yours has though, Good Shit
