i love this film,Alan is great!!! and i got the feeling at the ending ,when Shane is going away from the Starret´s house in the prairie that he is about to disappear between the mountains, cuz he in fact was not a man, he was creature sent by God to help and protect this poor family from evil men, and now cuz his work is done he can go away, being happy for it. this is just a feeling i dont know if anybody got this sensation too.
Allan Ladd could have worn pumps he could have done miracles who cares he was one of the all time great western actors and will stand the test of time as all real icons of the screen manage to do.This music captures his spirit as well as the times. A masterpiece and ranks up with How the West was won, magnificent seven and big country, ones for the ages.
One of the greatest films of all time...any genre. In 1953 I was 17 and saw it on a Saturday afternoon. I saw it 10 more seperate times after that. I pride myself that I was one of the first to discover Victor Young's score. It was the main reason why I went back time and again. Alan Ladd absolutely perfect. It's his voice and look that make the character. I can still remember the hackles standing up on the back of my neck at the end when Shane rides through the cemetary and the music swells.
Yes, SHANE does indeed touches ones the heart and the musical score makes it unforgetable. Another Western that I loved watching -- also dates back to the late 50's when I was a teen -- was "Johnny Guitar". The musical score, the song of the same name , by the great American singer Peggy Lee is just fabulous.
Due to the dawn of the Space Age and the exploration of the Cosmos Hollywood abandoned producing Westerns in favor of Sci-Fy, unfortunately.
I love Victor Young. He was the ideal composer for Shane and Alan Ladd the ideal Shane. I saw it when I was 11 in 1953 and so many times since. It remains my favorite all-time western.
Great music, great soundtrack, great film. Gotta watch it more than once to understand the complete meaning and all the tiny details that make it as good as it is.
anyway it is one of the best 5 westerns ever made, there is no doubt about it.

For some reason it seems like the music from the funeral scene is left out. It's too bad because it was some of the best

Not many westerns touched the heartstring like Shane did. My favorite movie as a kid and it has stood the test of time.
