  • I like Amos. But she's mumbling here.

  • I can hardly understand the words she's saying o.O

  • I like the arrangement she created. Hard for some people to accept her singing these particular lyrics; seems like people view it as perverted. I personally could not give a shit. She's a singer. She sang. She's a musician. She played. She's an artist. She created. She liked the song. She covered it. To the critics I say open your mind or keep it closed; it's ur life. I love Tori.

  • yuck

  • I can't understand her...

  • yes!!

  • love the cover but was she having a bad day or WHAT? at :24 she looked so depressed she went cross-eyed.

  • She is trying so much to look like she is feeling it. But does she ? The Boss does it way better

  • I normally like her, but I sort of felt like she was trying too hard to make this cover different in some areas. I prefer other covers of this song.

  • I find her kind of gay and her piano playing is a little too erratic for my taste but I do love unconditionally some of her studio songs.

  • @zafadadynamic

You found her kind of gay? What does that mean exactly?

  • I saw her perform this live in Atlanta during the SW tour, absolutely loved it!

  • Written so eloquently, nintendoshoe. You clearly know nothing about this ARTIST. Don't quit your day job in an attempt to be a critic of the arts.

  • I forgot about this!!! Dayum that's good!!!

  • At least she tried...

  • ew

  • very nice

  • ofcourse

  • okay, thats amazing. Never listened to much Tori Amos before, but I'm very imrpessed. She does it sort of like a Jazz torch song.

  • I say: None of all people can´t be Tori, and that´s all and enough. None. And you know that fact.

  • She's playing a BOSendorfer piano! (0:13)

  • 1996?!! Thought I'd heard all of Tori's music and then I've come across this whilst searching for a digital version by Bruce. Tori's version is sublime, haunting and simply inspiring. To copy of a Springsteen song, and do it justice in your own, personal, way is simply awesome.

  • So haunting.

  • not springsteen but also very good

  • this is brilliant, follks.

  • Why wasn't this song ever released on CD or Mp3? Been looking for over a decade.

  • @ecwcwwf It's on a VH1 Crossroads cd. Check Amazon for it.

  • @ecwcwwf It's on a VH1 Crossroads cd. Check Amazon for it.

  • Tori makes love to this song. Very good. Not as good as Springsteen, though. I'm no Springsteen fan, too.

  • Tori makes loves to this song.

  • she and Bruce both did awesome covers!!

  • Dreaming of a Bruce & Tori DUET on this song..... More like Fantasizing..... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :-)

  • I don't doubt this is genuine/heartfelt, but to me its an example of a cover that over-eggs the original - too much interpretation and body language which detracts from the pathos that comes from a simpler delivery.

  • I love the way that the character in the song seems vulnerable. It might be more complex and interesting than the original song.

  • Beautiful!!

  • She is one of the very few artists who truly make a song their own. The way she sings this song puts a whole new spin on it...you hear it differently. Better than the original, and the original is pretty damn good. Those artistis that dare to cover an iconic song need to do it successfully. This is one of those examples.

  • Sometimes covers stray a bit too far... Can't decide if this is one of those covers. She's clearly a top notch musician, just not to my taste exactly ><

  • good cover , not her best and she is soooooooo sexy

  • She missed the letter at 00:36.

  • "cool my desire"... love the way she sings that

  • Not one of my favorite covers, but different.

  • if i didn't know the words already, i would not have known what she was saying.

  • @JFKismyhusband Tell me now baby nurr nurr nurr nuuuuuurrrrrrr

  • music is dying! i love this.. so raw

  • I was hoping it was another Eminem cover :)

  • I believe her when she says she can take me higher. She already did.

  • @doh1959, u sick puppy u.

  • @UkkoA hmm so what is acceptible in your life sniffin mind altering things or mind thrilling pussy

  • @doh1959, in my life both are one. I referred to just watching. We've got at least five senses, so let's use them all.

  • Takes me back to a time where music mattered...... I miss it so.

  • @rigaitan74 That makes no sense.

  • wow

  • wow, this one sent a shiver straight down my spine from the first second i listened to it.

  • LOVE this cover!

  • Tori Amos. Amazingly talented, incredibly sexy. That's all I can say.

  • she´s so sexy!!!!

  • ROCKED IT!

  • one of the most beautiful covers i have ever heard. it kills me..fkn amazing. i love u tori x <3 <3

  • this is gorgeous ♥

  • If I can hear one thing before I die it will Tori Amos singing this song.

  • I'll never forget when I first saw this video over 10 years ago on Vh1 crossroads. I was in college back then, already a fan for yrs. This cover blew my mind. Anytime I've played it, everyone clamors to know who this is. Even my CD, which was hard to find in the first place, has gone "missing" bc of friends To the person who doesn't admire Tori, I'm fascinated as to why you are so intimated by her "bewitching ways." Does her rawness disturb you and bring back issues you haven't dealt with?

  • you have that right

  • Tori is pure talent.

  • Tori Amos was actually Jewel's inspiration... Heard her say so in her own words. If there was no Tori Amos, there may have been no Jewel.

  • @Iwtchutube if only...

  • @Iwtchutube

She's been an inspiration for a lot of female singer songwriters out there I think.

  • @Iwtchutube Well, I believe she is talented & all, but I don't like, respect nor admire her. Like her lyrics (Black Dove/Magic), she's the opposite of pure/wholesome. Her perfomances/talent is more seductive than anything else. That's why I don't respect her. Not saying she's not talented in other areas. She has a nice voice & SOME of her music is captivating, but in a bewitching way. I believe that not all who possess talent are worthy of it and not all talent is admirable.

  • @Iwtchutube We are so lucky that she is not "pure" or "wholesome". Her having the guts to be what she is, to let her raw, seductive, bewitching nature shine through for everyone who appreciates it to enjoy, earns her my respect and admiration.

  • @JCanipe You said it, but I think the honesty she had about these facets of her personality IS wholesome and pure, no?

  • @JCanipe

    YES YES YES

  • This grew on me.

  • i dont like it . not at all. eventually its BECAUSE of her own style.. it totally sucks and miss th e point ^^

  • @rudeEMOboi Hey, Tori's gotten more talent in her little boy breasts than most artists have in their entire bodies! (That's a quote from Will & Grace, in case you're wondering.) Respect her. u_u

  • I can't believe how fast time flys!

  • @evilabsolute

Can anyone rate my cover of this song @

    markymark251

  • Can anyone comment on my version of the same song @

    markymark251 ?

    Thanks

  • can anyone comment on my video of the same song at markymark251 ?

  • sounds good to me

  • that is me,

    baby...

    the one

    on fire;)

  • i like you tori, but this time leave it to the legend

  • she's on fire crotch

  • @remmy73 best comment right there :D

  • tori amos is sexy, freaking fantastic cover!

  • @timdurgan haha- love it! ;)

  • oh my...

    oh jeh

    oy ve!

  • orgasmic feeling

  • she make's shiver xxx i want to live in her pocket xxxxxx

  • @papalazerus22 Sorry my friend but there is only room for one us and I have first choice. LOL

  • she's so gorgeous and sexy here! this cover is beautiful!!!

  • i love this song so much

  • @brently16

idk, i understood every word. besides, i'd much rather watch/hear her play it than Sperm-steen. lol

  • I love the fragility that comes through her voice.

Listen to the pain that comes through my friends

voice on her version of this song, /watch?v=PociEqw_VTo

  • When Tori covers a song, it means that the song has touched her spirit in some way. It is a tribute to the artist who wrote the song, expressing her admiration of the artist who wrote the song she is covering.

  • This cover is my favourite that I've heard of this song, along with Bat For Lashes's.

  • Of course you can reinterpret the emotion & feeling of a song. It allows to see the other dimension. Smells Like Teen Spirit is, in my opinion, just as good by Nirvana as it is by Tori, but each version has its very own emotion coming through. The original song has the pain and haunting of Tori's version at its core, but it just doesn't come through - instead, the initial anger thatn comes from pain is what shows through. It's just as good, but Tori brought out the pain behind the lyrics.

  • Might has well tell you now! When she sings i want a shag god my Balls are solid now!

  • She puts her own style on it. Isn't that the whole point of covering a song? I like it!

  • @kyraxdoomquake Amen! If you can't make it your own, it's not a good cover.

  • HI FANS-or morons. Look. Tori becomes just as emotionally attached to music the way we cherish her gorgeous songs. Emotional attachment to lyrical genius is human. Try to be genius.

  • I am a big Boss fan, but really also enjoy this one, i like Tori, shes so unique in her style and has a good sense for the core of a song.

  • This is ok, but in my opinion no one could cover this and even come close to springsteins version!! People can try, but they wont come close!

  • amazing.

  • totally love this version tori is full of passion...i;d like to hear them sing it together

  • I suspect many posts are by springsteen fans that just dont think its right to cover a springsteen song. And to be fair most springsteen fans arent Tori Amos fans, the two dont tend to go hand in hand. I think Both Versions are awesome! I would rather listen to Springsteens but thats my personal preference, when you take preference out of the equation and look at the songs for what they are rather than what you like, They are both amazing.

  • yeah, I usually hate covers but, I think this is sort of good

  • yep certain songs should not be touched!

  • you guys are retarded this is an awesome version

  • Beautiful! As usual Tori can cover other people's songs, changing them radically but catching their intimate soul.

  • has anyone else heard the earlier cover of this song by her live?? It had so much more passion!!

  • come rovinare una bella canzone!

  • I don't know if this song was written by another singer a while back. I don't know if the previous versioin is better than this particular one. All I know is this: I quite like the song, talented piano player and intelligent singer.

  • written by springsteen

  • this is fascinating! when bruce sings it, you feel a warrior's honest love in restraint and here you get woman's deep desire to enwrap this bond. who is the hunter and who is the prey? it would seem, neither, as the magic of the two as one coalesces right here on earth.

  • Wow, how romantic! You must be a poet....

  • 44pullups, happy new year 2010 to you. Mr Springsteen version indeed has strength within the weakness of his suffocating anger in the realisation of love as he sings. Where Ms Amos piano symphony makes the song as a sort of acceptance of the words within the notes. Life goes on with their ups and down like the notes scale.

I am not quite certain where the imagery of hunter and prey takes place nor the "magic". A man who cannot submit and a woman who accepts to readily are neither good match

  • the imagery comes because where you see/hear "a sort of acceptance" i see/hear a woman's strength, like a spider in her web. she is deeply desirous (hungry) but, like bruce springsteen, she is restrained as a part of her realizes that victory comes at a cost of self.

  • Unfortunately I cannot comment on your perception in the manner you wrote it. Also, I do not know enough about psychology as to use the term "self" out of context.

So to answer you adequately, I like music because of my perception, which is unique to who I am and your perception is unique to who you are. It remains that bringing too much analysis in other people's music render the listeners closer to critics which they are not.

    Enjoy the music.

    Good day.

  • I can´t believe that there is anybody who doesn´t know the the original song was written by The Boss of Rock, Mr. Bruce Springsteen. But to this different version of this song, i would say he can´t reach to Mr. Springsteen version, due to the fact, that she didn´t know the correckt lyrics. But she gaves her very best to play this song and in the end, i think it´s not so bad. Not so bad like the version of J. Cash.

  • oooo!

    sooo sexxxyyy!

  • love the original but wow, this is fantastic

  • Im on fire after seeing Tori in this video.

    Good Lawd.

  • This is other version..ok this is ok:)

  • anything that comes from Tori is beautfiul~ cover or not~ and i dont think the idea is to beat anyone~ its her own expression of the song~

  • You kids be good! The boss as you lot put it! just held Bob Dylans hand so go steady............YES FULL STOP!

  • what an intelligent responce!! You would have to be an american!!

  • Comment removed

  • oh gee i spelt a word wrong, I am suprised you, as an american actually picked that up!! Since you hassle me over my spelling, whose the dumbass that began a sentence with "and" I wouldn't brag too much about being american, most of the world hates you.

  • Comment removed

  • Most of the world hates us, but belive me oribear, they all want to be us! :-p

  • Love it! Kicks the original's ass.

  • hahahaaha! nothing beats an original! everyone loves the original! thats why people try to cover it! love tori's style but u cant beat the original. im sure u like it a little more though lol, PIANO BOY. :o) bruuuuuuce!

  • I don't think it does. I think they're different sides of the same coin to me. Bruce's version is very intense and passionate (especially live), but driven by lust. Tori's is equally intense and passionate, but she is in the grips of a painful love, and full of guilt. I like both versions equally.

  • I agree with you totally. Honestly, I only really said Tori's version was better in the first place to piss off all the haters. But I do like both versions pretty equally.

  • Its an okay cover. I certainly don't hate it. However, if it isn't going to be Springsteen, singing his music, Johnny Cash seems to understand Springsteen pretty well, and added some beautiful nuance to Springsteen's music.

  • have always imagined melissa etheridge singing this if it were done by a female, not because shes gay but the sound of her voice plus that

  • A couple of the comments I glanced at were sort of unkind, which I wouldn't bother mentioning -- they're better than a lot of what we see on YouTube -- except that I don't agree with them. Tori Amos has a predictable problem: she's singing a song that was already done to near perfection by its writer/composer. Surprisingly, Tori's version succeeds, in spite of that, maybe for 3 reasons: she simplifies with the piano; she's faithful to the yearning mood of the song; and she has a lovely voice.

  • I agree, some unkind (but fair) comments. I have nothing against Tori Amos but this not a good cover IMHO. Perhaps some performers just cover songs because they love that song. I don't think they deliberately butcher them.

  • Well, we don't agree, but what you say is quite fair. In fact, I don't even know if you're wrong -- assuming there is an objective right and wrong in this case. My bet, btw, is that there is none -- that whether or not we like Tori's version is a matter of taste. Thanks for the feedback.

  • I didn't know Tori was a butcher. I learned something new today, thanks!

  • I would have to agree with you. I like Tori, but her style doesn't enhance this song or enlighten me at all.

The Chromatics cover is far superior to this, and a perfect example of transforming the original, unlike here.

  • I wish I had that piano.

  • you dont appreciate her art loser

  • One of the best covers.

  • sometimes i like to mix this and bruce springsteen where they are singing it together, it's simply out of this world. The reason why Tori Amos is popular is because she actually goes on tour and gives something back to her fans. Why don't all you TA haters go over to John Mayer's site, yeat that is a real singer. He can't even hit half the notes Tori can. Oh, but he was with Jennifer Aniston! So he must be good!

  • your opinion is shockingly shit.

  • I totally agree with you. However, this woman's performances in my humble ears, sound better than the originals all of the time. Not only is she a good a musiciana, but she's also SEXY

  • Hi ! Before "hearing" that song while I write, for exemple, I always listen to the song, for me that means doing nothing else, only listening. That song is "sweet", and the piano sounds well for such a version. Well done again. BYE !

  • Tori does amazing covers this is definately one of them, she Looks so pissed though, l love it!!

  • I love the original of his song by The Boss, and Tori turns it into something just as beautiful. I find this version so moving.

  • id do her in tht

  • Love this song, great cover

  • smile or cry shes so amaazing so many emotions

  • I gave my gf a hell of kiss to this song.

  • yes! amplified, indeed! She is an amazing artist.. the older she gets, the better she gets, like wine. Iove to hear her sing.If you get a chance, listen to her covers of "Philadelphia" and "Smells like Teen Spirit." I was amazed again.

  • so did I!

  • Tori is absolutely AMAZING!! Saw her in concert back in 1998.. she's awesome to hear LIVE. I love how she interprets the songs, not just sings them.

  • I hear you, Arimababy. Tori truly remakes the covers she chooses and she does it so magnificently. It's like the original artists initial intent is amplified and polished to a whole new clarity. It's amazing how she can nearly put you in a trance if you truly listen rather than just hear.

  • Yes.

  • rock on sister.

If u ever in DFW drop in for a session with me & rudy -- we need some help!!.

  • PERFECTION....

  • it`s better to listen her song SUGAR :)

  • it takes a redheaded woman...

  • :)) best comment ever

  • lol !!! You're damn right !!! ;-D

  • With curly hair too!

  • smoking hot sultry singer !!!

  • Beautiful Tori. Amazing how you make songs your own and at the same time get a glimpse of your heroes. The piano is played beautiful. Let's respect each other on here. If you could play your idol's song and put your heart into it, wouldn't you? I would. It's brave. It's fearless. It's flattery. He gave her the rights to do it and she rocked it. Deal.

  • This Tori goes to my heart!

  • Tori deserves more fucking respect on here.
