He've never said he didn"t like metal. He said he didn" like narrow-minded critics and music industry which order bands to do the same in every album. Kiske wanted to wide the horizons of Helloween. Chameleon is a very creative album with many stlyes added. Because of thet it is very exciting album.
This song is good, but to think THIS replaced one of the best Helloween songs ever written as the single, that being Giants. People would have a much better perspective on Chameleon if Giants was the first dose of it they got.

Auch die Frühen mit Deris sind genial und eigentlich findet sich auf jeden Album eine große Anzahl von Songs, die ich mir sehr gut anhören kann. zusätzlich ist die Unarmed richtig cool, weil es mal was vollkommen anderes ist. Künstlerische Entfaltung ist etwas sehr Wichtiges, wie ich finde.

I think this is one of my favorite Helloween albums. It just shows how good they were as songwriters. The tunes were catchy yet progressive with excellent playing. I mean "Music" is such a mighty tune along with the perhaps even mightier "I Believe" this album rocks! It gets a bad hype but people are coming around to realizing what a good record it is. What don't you like about it?

@tammysyl Wrong! This album is MASTERPIECE. They did a pretty good work at it. "Stop being blind" and face the truth: Helloween is way more than a regular noise making headbanging band. They are artists and wonderful musicians/songwriters and they show it in many ways. I speak not only about the original lineup, but also about the other guys joined the band afterward.
i started listening to helloween after 2000 so i didnt hate this album because it was different from what i expected. i didnt know what "normal" helloween was, so every cd i found was something different. I just didnt like this one because it plain fucking sucks...
@behemothpl666 That's right, the real helloween is Jericho and especially Keepers, with both Hansen and Kiske. But Chameleon is the real music, totally different to their other albums. And that's really increases it's value, especially through the years. Musical tastes are changing then you became older, and sooner or not you'll probably will be tired listening just speed power metal, but music like this. And, have a close look to the Master of The Rings - it's pretty musical rather just power.
what is the good with that album? helloween- kiske wanted to experimend, as they do nowdays. But what the hell they play new songs, THEY DON'T DESTROY MASTERPIECES. And if you are lisen the album you will see that this is AOR at 1993 MR PERFECT WEIKI! lets face it, the great about that album is that the kiske wanted to play something defrend, without fulling the old helloween great songs. deris will never make that because his voice is for only, and that is not for sure, for power metal.
i listened their music all day and night long. i had the same hairs, same clothes. (i wish i had never worn such trousers!). about chameleon. me was pretty much confused and yes somewhat disappointed about its style. but now, after all the years, i still listen this album.

When I first listended to this album some years ago, I didn't get it. But the more I listened to it, the album grew on me. Now its one of my favorite albums to listen to. In my opinion, its great! Have a Happy Helloween.

Wow. That's something to think about. It sucks that when you are labeled something, you are expected to die with the same title. People that can't take a break from the norm never grow. They stay stagnant and boring. Yes, style is developed through some repetition. But it also able to advanced through risk and experimentation. Chameleon is the perfect example of that. If they wouldnt have put this album out, they would have the albums that followed. Something to think about...

Note how marginalized Weiki is in this video... anyone with eyes could tell he is NOT happy with this. Meanwhile, Kiske flouts in the spotlight. Also, I can't believe this foulness got a 7-minute video when "Halloween" got that awful 5-minute cut.
all helloween albums were different from one another an were all able to contribute something different, which shows the bands ability to diversify.. which is important as musicans...
remember, although helloween is classed is "metal", the underlying factor is they are musicans, they therefore have the liberty to experiment.. chameleon in my opinion, was a success at this experimenting..
I agree it is a shame that bands get railroaded because they want to experiment outside the precepts of what the fans expect. I would like to come up with a fund that compensates for any loss of record sales when a band decides to do any experimental stuff.
This album sounds like Helloween it may not sound like Keepers How could you replicate a masterpiece) but it sounds like Helloween.
Metal is a very conservative genre. And this isn't metal. Most of the songs on Chameleon aren't good in any genre. This however is a really original song. As is most of Kiskes solo stuff. He is and were a true artist, and that because of a very conservative genre's(in which he perhaps never fitted in) judgement on this, became the end of his spotlight for 17 years.
I don't think that metal i conservative. I listen to metal 20 years, and I'm not able to say where are borders of metal. And metal is also very mixture of all musical existing musical genres. Metal is absolutely no conservative.
Btw. I like Chameleon, this is good album, but you don't have to expect speed metal.
Because people aren't able to look past Helloween's glory years of power metal. If people would judge the music being produced fairly, they would come to the conclusion that this album is great, and Helloween's last great album was Dark Ride, and their last good album was Rabbit Don't Come Easy.
Helloween has been dying since the firing of Grapow and Kusch.

Chameleon's musical diversity ranks second to Keeper II. There is also metal in this, it's just not fast, and that left people scratching their heads. It's really sad that some people expected nothing but fast songs.
Sure some Helloween albums released after Chameleon have been some of the best power metal albums since Keeper II, but Helloween have yet to release an album that is musically superior to Chameleon!
Man you said it all, it makes me happy to see that there are people who recognize the genius in Chamelleon. Not only Helloween have yet to make another album like it, but so do many great bands.
This album suffered from the perception of being too multi-genre without a definite home. Metal people did not like it because it did not sound like Keepers (although a lot of the same stuff was underneath each Keeper album), it did not fit pigeon hold Progressive Rock and it was too long and complex to be Pop. Too many people loving the genre and not the music. I have never heard anything that Chameleon could be compared to genre wise (Keepers the same way at its core) its a unique masterpiece.
I really like the part of this video when the band members are arguing with some guys of a label... a clear reference to the dispute they've had at the time with their own label (EMI if I remember well...). Great song and experimental album (even though it somehow lead Kiske to leaving metal ...)
I believe of all albums of Helloween Chameleon's discs it was a Failure I respect very much Kiske but with this I stop greatly q to wish about of helloween unlike the classic Keppers of the seven Keys
It could be a failure in terms of band label and what fans expected, but musically it is spectalular, not many bands conceive an album like Chamelleon, especially in such troubled times as they were going through.

what is the good with that album? helloween- kiske wanted to experimend, as they do nowdays. But what the hell they play new songs, THEY DON'T DESTROY MASTERPIECES. And if you are lisen the album you will see that this is AOR at 1993 MR PERFECT WEIKI! BELIEVE MUSIC REVOLUTION AND MANY MANY MORE songs from that album is much better than the crap you are playing with the smoker.
The joke will be if unisonic make success, because derris couldn't make pink cream a great band!

Para mi este es el disco mas original que ha sacado Helloween, la variedad musical es... increible, podemos escuchar baladas, temas acusticos, organos por montones, coros, solos de guitarra increible, estribillos tipicos de helloween...
Como he dicho muchas veces, es una verdadera lastima que la gente quiera escuchar lo mismo y lo mismo una y otra vez sin experimentar ni escuchar nada nuevo..

la cancion no es que sea mala, pero si a uno le gusta el power metal y su grupo es helloween y de repente sacan un disco asi, es logico que cause rechazo en muchos. de todas formas los keepers dejaron el listón demasiado alto porque son obras maestras.

I really love Kiske era (even when Hansen singin' times were great), i love heavy-power metal of helloween... this song sounds more like 'some kind of pop' but... I love this song... just beautiful...

lets face it, the great about that album is that the kiske wanted to play something defrend, without fulling the old helloween great songs. deris will never make that because his voice is for only, and that is not for sure, for power metal.

i listened their music all day and night long. i had the same hairs, same clothes. (i wish i had never worn such trousers!). about chameleon. me was pretty much confused and yes somewhat disappointed about its style. but now, after all the years, i still listen this album.

When I first listended to this album some years ago, I didn't get it. But the more I listened to it, the album grew on me. Now its one of my favorite albums to listen to. In my opinion, its great! Have a Happy Helloween.

Wow. That's something to think about. It sucks that when you are labeled something, you are expected to die with the same title. People that can't take a break from the norm never grow. They stay stagnant and boring. Yes, style is developed through some repetition. But it also able to advanced through risk and experimentation. Chameleon is the perfect example of that. If they wouldnt have put this album out, they would have the albums that followed. Something to think about...

kiske says that he still loving maiden and priest songs, but at the same time he likes other kinds of music...

well certainly this is not metal. but it is fucking awesome! Many artist who think are progressive and open minded would like to achieve chameleon's greatness...Helloween are genius and you can tell them between 1,000 clones. A band like that can only write too damn good songs.

Note how marginalized Weiki is in this video... anyone with eyes could tell he is NOT happy with this. Meanwhile, Kiske flouts in the spotlight. Also, I can't believe this foulness got a 7-minute video when "Halloween" got that awful 5-minute cut.

all helloween albums were different from one another an were all able to contribute something different, which shows the bands ability to diversify.. which is important as musicans...
remember, although helloween is classed is "metal", the underlying factor is they are musicans, they therefore have the liberty to experiment.. chameleon in my opinion, was a success at this experimenting..

I agree it is a shame that bands get railroaded because they want to experiment outside the precepts of what the fans expect. I would like to come up with a fund that compensates for any loss of record sales when a band decides to do any experimental stuff.
This album sounds like Helloween it may not sound like Keepers How could you replicate a masterpiece) but it sounds like Helloween.

Metal is a very conservative genre. And this isn't metal. Most of the songs on Chameleon aren't good in any genre. This however is a really original song. As is most of Kiskes solo stuff. He is and were a true artist, and that because of a very conservative genre's(in which he perhaps never fitted in) judgement on this, became the end of his spotlight for 17 years.

I don't think that metal i conservative. I listen to metal 20 years, and I'm not able to say where are borders of metal. And metal is also very mixture of all musical existing musical genres. Metal is absolutely no conservative.
Btw. I like Chameleon, this is good album, but you don't have to expect speed metal.

Because people aren't able to look past Helloween's glory years of power metal. If people would judge the music being produced fairly, they would come to the conclusion that this album is great, and Helloween's last great album was Dark Ride, and their last good album was Rabbit Don't Come Easy.
Helloween has been dying since the firing of Grapow and Kusch.

Chameleon's musical diversity ranks second to Keeper II. There is also metal in this, it's just not fast, and that left people scratching their heads. It's really sad that some people expected nothing but fast songs.
Sure some Helloween albums released after Chameleon have been some of the best power metal albums since Keeper II, but Helloween have yet to release an album that is musically superior to Chameleon!

This album suffered from the perception of being too multi-genre without a definite home. Metal people did not like it because it did not sound like Keepers (although a lot of the same stuff was underneath each Keeper album), it did not fit pigeon hold Progressive Rock and it was too long and complex to be Pop. Too many people loving the genre and not the music. I have never heard anything that Chameleon could be compared to genre wise (Keepers the same way at its core) its a unique masterpiece.

I really like the part of this video when the band members are arguing with some guys of a label... a clear reference to the dispute they've had at the time with their own label (EMI if I remember well...). Great song and experimental album (even though it somehow lead Kiske to leaving metal ...)

It could be a failure in terms of band label and what fans expected, but musically it is spectalular, not many bands conceive an album like Chamelleon, especially in such troubled times as they were going through.
