How do you know that you are holding the first and second frets together and not playing the second individually? How would you know to stop playing the frets together and start playing them individually? I hope my questions make sense.

@ccxcrazy 1. If you hold two frets on the same string it will make the same noise as if you only hold the last fret... 2. If they're individual then the numbers wont be on top of each other but separate.

@ulrich537 Dead strum, which is where you palm mute it. just put your palm or just one finger depending on where the x is and don't press down and plauck so you don't get an actually note, but a dead sound.
