This is from "Momotaro Umi No Shipei" which is a brilliant and very evil cartoon released in 1945 by the Japanese Imperial Navy aimed at teaching the next generation of little children to dedicate themselves to making war for the emperor. I don't know if the a-bomb was real reason for the surrender. The Japanese lost more civilians in the Tokyo Fire bombings. It just happened to coincide with the loss of a 2 million man army to the Soviets in Manchuria in less than a 72 hour period. I suppose at that point their option was to surrender to the Soviets or the USA. I think the Emperor used the Abomb as a saving face reason to surrender to the US as the Soviets would not be so kind.

The Japs were preparing for an invasion that was estimated to kill upwards of 4 million civilians, mostly by starvation, in the north, due to the Jap Gov't moving all food to the south, for the Army. But it is unlikely that invasion would happen. The US would surround Japan with a ring of steel, and bomb them into the stone age, rather than invade, against prepared defenses. The ABombs, ironically, saved millions of Jap lives, as well as countless Allied lives.
The problem is that japanese hadnt so much knoweledge as germans. It would be the biggest mistake using the A bomb against germany, because germans would know how it works. The explosion is very individual

There is some truth in what you said, but keep in mind that during the Great Depression, the people lost confidence in the Japanese government that allowed the Japanese to launch a coup. They "solved" their country's problems by expanding their empire.
In addition they used propaganda, that was already in place at the time, to reinforce their militaristic views with Bushido. The early victories of the Japanese military added to the fervor. That was until the US Air Force fire bombed Japan.

I've just made some comments on this site but it does look interesting to me how they show the paratroop invasion. They're shown landing with only pistols and their main weapons are dropped separately in canisters (though some broke down rifles and submachineguns were available), a practice they must have taken off the Germans. Outside the propaganda I felt this aspect was very interesting about this film, particularly the methods shown in this film and the attention to detail.
Interesting that the Japanese drew the "white" allies as tall, willowy figures with long floppy appendages - I wonder if that was a common stereotype.
Japan did have paratroopers during WW2, and The bears wear simply a symbolism of the spirit the "warriors" had during each action, the guerilla fighters wear drawn as monkeys.
I think they look more like Englishmen then Americans, those uniforms resembled the ones the British wore in Asia at the time. Remember the Japanese also fought the British in Asia especially Burma, where the tide got turned towards the end of the war.

Took a while to understand... the parachuting teddy bears are Japanese Imperial Marines, while the goofy enemy are clearly the British. Looks as if it's a cartoon take on the fall of Singapore which the British thought was impregnable. I'll never understand the Japanese; some odd melding of technology and ancient culture.

@rolfen - well, the Japanese in world war two were ridiculous, they would haply murder a torture civilians and surrendered soldiers. there are tonnes of reliable sources for this so i wouldn't bother arguing it. The nuclear attacks were actually less lethal than the carpet bombing that they would have otherwise had to use, the Japanese state would not have surrendered.
Its not the same thing, on the one hand you have cold blooded and depraved murder, on the other, you have an act of war.

Had Germany lost their homeland to the Soviets, but achieved a victory in Russia, that would have put vast natural resources at Germany's hands, had
they been able to stabilize Russia.
With Norway next door, and hard water facilities alreasy there, might this have accelerated the development of the bomb for Germany?
Had Germany won back their homeland and ultimately driven Russian and Allied forces from Europe, would they have nuked Japan in their bid for superiority? Just a thought.

bigger is not better: germany in WW1 beat everybody from E to W. but got starved and isolated into submission.
japan never meant to win the war. they just wanted their oil supply and planned to ask for peace after 1 year of fighting. today japan has enough wealth to pay USA's debt.
the nukes were never meant to win the war. if you can't win with 1 nuke, you can't win. they were the first shots of the cold war. which almost wiped out USA.

And using Atomic bombs on Japan was 100% meant to end the war, It's the whole reason Truman ordered them dropped. After learning the cost of lives in the Battle for Okinawa, experts estimated over one MILLION US casualties times many more that for Japan.

This is from "Momotaro Umi No Shipei" which is a brilliant and very evil cartoon released in 1945 by the Japanese Imperial Navy aimed at teaching the next generation of little children to dedicate themselves to making war for the emperor. It is the best justification I've seen yet for Truman demanding close to total surrender and dropping the bomb to get it. Clearly, if The US hadn't won overwhelmingly there would have been another war in 20 years. This is Public Domain according to wikipedia.

I don't know if the a-bomb was real reason for the surrender. The Japanese lost more civilians in the Tokyo Fire bombings. It just happened to coincide with the loss of a 2 million man army to the Soviets in Manchuria in less than a 72 hour period. I suppose at that point their option was to surrender to the Soviets or the USA. I think the Emperor used the Abomb as a saving face reason to surrender to the US as the Soviets would not be so kind.

The Japs were preparing for an invasion that was estimated to kill upwards of 4 million civilians, mostly by starvation, in the north, due to the Jap Gov't moving all food to the south, for the Army. But it is unlikely that invasion would happen. The US would surround Japan with a ring of steel, and bomb them into the stone age, rather than invade, against prepared defenses. The ABombs, ironically, saved millions of Jap lives, as well as countless Allied lives.

@Ixtzalit - Well, knowing how an A-Bomb works, and having the resources to build one, are two very different things. Remember, the A-Bomb was the single most expensive project in US history. That, and the Nazis would have been too busy surrendering.
Oddly, the Japanese have recently claimed that they detonated a nuclear device, in N.Korea, in August of 1945. The Japs were on a better track to the A-Bomb, than the Germans, so who knows? Seems, we'll have to wait a while, before verifying that.

Ofc the Nazis were too busy surrendering, because they were attacked on all fronts. And to gain ressouces for such project wouldnt be a problem for them. Same as costs would nt be a problem. German scientists didnt demand money, they worked 12 hours a day without a break- Loyality. At the end of war germans could build Horten H Airplanes, which were much more expensive then any other airplane or vehicle in WWII. Even Henschel, Krupp, Mercedes etc. didnt demand money, it was pure loyality.

The Horten airplanes were invisible for enemy radars, thats why their production was expensive. Nazis were out of ressources, but money wasnt a problem.And slaves were 1/4 of all menpower. They only built two prototypes, neither of which was ever fitted with engines. One of them, they burned, and the other is at the Smithsonian. Google it.

this looks like the campaign in Singapore & GEN Percival's surrender...the Japanese airborne landing, pack guns assembled, the attack on a British artillery bunker later an ambush on Humber armoured cars, the final assault on the smug British, caught with their pants down...& finally the surrender of the troops & Percival's signing of the surrender...actually the British fought fiercelly, but of couse they chose not to die in battle, a sin for the Japanese, who fought to the Death...

Yes, the British fight like Lions, but are sometimes lead by donkeys. There have been historians who researched the battle and have argued that the British could have made a tougher stand and effectively exhaust the Japanese.
The British were very inexperienced and did not really assess their assets completely. General Percival ignored the advice of his native counterparts to make a tougher stand and make the Japs fight for every square inch of ground. Instead the general made the dubious...

...the General a dubious decision to fight while withdrawing back to Singapore that exhaust the Japanese as they are mostly made up of light infantry. However he overestimated his troops (they were very inexperienced since the seasoned veterans were shipped off to England to protect the motherland, and they were not that disciplined) and morale was non-existent by the time they reached Singapore. So much so that they were forced to surrender.

There is some truth in what you said, but keep in mind that during the Great Depression, the people lost confidence in the Japanese government that allowed the Japanese to launch a coup. They "solved" their country's problems by expanding their empire.
In addition they used propaganda, that was already in place at the time, to reinforce their militaristic views with Bushido. The early victories of the Japanese military added to the fervor. That was until the US Air Force fire bombed Japan.

Thank you so mch for posting the movie. I think the film maker made this movie out of the British surrender to Japan at Singapore where Britain accepted an unconditional surrender in 1942.

Interesting how the "Japs" were usually dehumanized in Allied propaganda, but Americans or British were portrayed in Japanese propaganda as just cowards or idiots at the very worst.

I've just made some comments on this site but it does look interesting to me how they show the paratroop invasion. They're shown landing with only pistols and their main weapons are dropped separately in canisters (though some broke down rifles and submachineguns were available), a practice they must have taken off the Germans. Outside the propaganda I felt this aspect was very interesting about this film, particularly the methods shown in this film and the attention to detail.

Japan did have paratroopers during WW2, and The bears wear simply a symbolism of the spirit the "warriors" had during each action, the guerilla fighters wear drawn as monkeys.

I think they look more like Englishmen then Americans, those uniforms resembled the ones the British wore in Asia at the time. Remember the Japanese also fought the British in Asia especially Burma, where the tide got turned towards the end of the war.
