I'm from New Jersey. I'm glad I don't expect too much. Here in LA, I am up to my eye-balls in people who expect everything for nothing. I am proud to say I'm from New Jersey. I was taught the difference between right and wrong in New Jersey. We used to laugh at snobs in New Jersey. It was only when I lived in Manhattan and the UK that I found out some people take them seriously. We had the best food in the world in New Jersey. We didn't know that until we left. Hey, why don't I go back? Okay!
Awesome beaches, ridiculously excellent food, salt-of-the-earth people, (generally) excellent public education, quick access to the Capital of the World (NYC). If you can get past the property taxes and some traffic, Jersey is easy to love. I'm from Paramus.
I'm from South Jersey growing up there I thought it was a great place though I always felt like I just didn't fit in. I grew up in what was once farm land, we had woods and a stream in the back yard. I'm a proud American and joined the military at the end of high school. That is when I saw what is wrong with NJ, most people there are liberal leftist that suffer from cranial/annul syndrome. They would have stayed with the king and their first governor B. Franklyn's was loyal to him. AZ now!
Sweet girls come from the south, Barbies come from CA, but NJ girls have fire and ice in our blood! We can drive in the snow, handle the cold, beat the heat, be a princess, throw a right hook and drink with the boys! We can cook a wicked good meal and if we have an opinion...You bet your Ass you're gonna hear it!!! I miss my New Jersey.
Happy memories of youth, indeed. and I just love making that "Jersey connection" with all y'all who also hail from the great garden state. Down to earth, real people, and ready to do for others. Thanks
Telling people I'm from NJ people are shocked I have 'no accent', & ask if I 'mean Newark?'
What I remember growing up in NJ is being surrounded by cornfields more golden than the sun, the sweet sting of manure amidst the distant sounds of a cow giving birth, a hummingbird flying over my father's head when he took me birdwatching, hauling a 6-lb catfish out of the Delaware, my best friend & I dumping our bikes unlocked outside the corner grocery.
@leapingoutofwater I grew up in rural NJ also. No Jersey accent there it is true. The reason that person thought you were from Newark may be because people in Newark also do not have the Jersey accent. Too many people coming in and out of this city from all over the world for an accent to develop. If you go a couple of miles outside of Newark, Bloomfield or Bellville for example, the Jersey accent is very pronounced.
This song makes me miss New Jersey too :( Go Hamilton Hornets! Miss SeaSide Heights - Allentown - Imlaystown - Hamilton Twsp - Broad St - Great Adventure - Real Italian Rolls - Italian Hot Dogs - Wawa Hoagies - Real Pizza - Cheese Steaks - White City Lake - Trenton Makes The World Takes - Museum - ShopRite - 7 Elevens - Wawas - alot of good memories growing up there - nothing wrong with that - Proud to be from New Jersey - and ya all it ain't Jersieeeeeeeee!

Uno degli stati migliori di tutta l'America. Bei panorami, campagne mozzafiato e persone molto cordiali...mi sembrava di essere in patria!
Saluti dall'Italia.

God bless the Garden State. Her many virtues are sadly overlooked, even by those like me who left looking for better places.

It's more than just highways & oil refineries.
