I know it was the shield for the mega zord but, at 1:24 the mastodon's head is there but when the zord is rising it suddenly dissapeers

Actually the Pterodactyl is on the back of the tank as a rear shield. in a few episodes where they actually use the tank mode you can see it back there thats how she ends up in there. i'm sure when the initiate battle mode its a given it detaches before you see the transformation. Hope that solves a few questions.

@billtamer The cockpits are on each of the zord's heads. Footage of Jason landing on T-rex's head in the first episode proves this.

The power crystals are really each of their power coins energized to form a crystal (search youtube for some footage) jamming them into their control panels sent signals to each zord that every ranger was ready to form the dinotanker and ultimately the megazord.
