The benchmarks are lies the Xeon is superior to the i7 if it weren't every server in the world with intel processors would have i7's instead of Xeons. The only server I've ever seen with an i7 is the mac mini server and it is the size of a stand alone cd drive.
@TheMaxvids1 I posed this music before it was "popular". Everyone started doing it. 2.5 years later, it's too late to change it. Youtube won't let me.
Xeon is better because you can have 2 ways, i.e. dual processors. So each processor with its cores and hyperthreading if exist will be counted as total.
Xeon is excellent because basically you can add more Cpus and get double rendering results than with single way systems. Check Cinebecnh 11.5 application and see render results to understand why Xeon is not purchased as a one way system but at least 2 ways.
it's funny, i have a xeon processor which i use for gaming, it's worse than a i5-2500k according to nearly every benchmark... when i play high end games like metro 2033 or crysis 2 the cpu load reaches almost 40%... a friend's cpu (i5-2500k) reaches around 80% and another friend's i7-960 reaches 50%. All at highest settings and 1080p. So again: what's the better deal? Reaching good benchmark scores or being really able to use the power?
In here nearly all people are fool.Becouse you must know what i need before buy Xeon or I7.there is no best in here.If i need a server computer you must need Xeon but if you are need Game performance or other things best pne is I7
you can always build hackintosh if you want mac os ,so both computers can be made to dual boot to win and mac os or tri boot to ubuntu or some other form of linux , iw ouldnt byt any desktop that is pre made, its easy enough to build your own , so what would be bett for gaming, 2 processor motherboard with 2 xeons, or one with 2 17, lates model of each processor, or 4 i7 's or 4 xeons?
@bulletproof2353 You can't have 4x I7 CPUs or a combination of I7 and Xeon.
For gaming, any latest quadcore is more than enough. I've been using my old I7 920 for 2 years now (at stock speed) and i haven't seen any game utilizing 100% of CPU power.
From what I've learned over the 7 years I've been working with computer hardware: Xeons simply aren't for "Home Use". They lack in some areas where "Home users" need power but they make up for it where they can be used in arrays of multiple CPUs, and coupled with ECC registered memory. So if you're looking for a computer to play games on and check your facebook, don't get a Xeon. If you're going to use something like an EVGA Classified motherboard to build a Server, get TWO Xeons ;)
@Lamboragon PLEASE PLEASE make the argument that a 15-year old HP is better than a Mac pro. Also, my original response is that he's comparing an i7 processor meant for HOME USE to a Xeon processor meant for SERVER AND MULTI-CORE GRAPHICS WORK. The whole argument was pointless once the video got posted because they are TWO DIFFERENT SPECIES OF PROCESSORS.
@brianbuckler "multi-core graphics work" Dude it does math, it doesnt care what math, it does math, the outcome being a computer game or "multi-core graphics work" is irrelevant. The xeons have the exact same cores as the i7's, only difference is dual-qpi so it can "talk" to a second processor, and it supporting ecc memory which is really only useful for mission critical applications, ie servers that need to serve content for years on end without down time except for scheduled times.
@Lamboragon I'd rather be the "looser" paying $1000 on a CPU that's part of a machine that brings me in a ton of money than play games all day at the best uber high settings. You've obviously got no understanding of the difference between these kinds of machines. They're workstations, not "desktops". They're made for mission critical tasks that require them to be running full load 24/7. A "desktop" rig wouldn't be able to handle the things these are made for. Simple as.
Go to the HP website and look for the Z series workstations. Oh look! They use Xeons too! So that must mean HP are a fail too because they use them instead of i7's! They're different components made for different tasks. Workstations are designed for stability and accurate processing of data, it's absolutely essential that they don't fail their tasks. Putting those tasks on an i7 system will cause it to crap itself, they're NOT made for it. End of.

@brianbuckler You understand that the processors and all components come from the same places right? Yours just get wrapped in a shiny apple case and sell for 4 times more.
@tshepp89 They're the same processors used in the HP Z series workstations, and Dell Precision workstations, and hundreds of thousands of servers around the world. They're workstation CPU's for workstation systems. There's a difference. They don't just change the name and charge more. You're massively ignorant if you think that. You're also massively ignorant to single out Apple as the only company selling such expensive systems with such hardware. They're NOT generic desktops.
@TalesOfWar Hmm, I think you misunderstood me. I know that the processors are different! I was talking about the contents of apple computers as opposed to other computers. And yes I agree, other companies like HP and Acer charge way too much also. Still not as much of a premium as Apple products though.
@brianbuckler Hahahahahahahahahahaha goood one..... Yea our brand new macs from 2010 keep locking up and having failures when trying to open simple text programs, oh yea there great.....
Measuring the processor performance is only a piece of the overall benefit to owning a Mac Pro. If you put 32 gbs of RAM in that Walmart PC, it'll fry. But generally, a high-end PC can dish more horsepower than a Mac Pro in the same price range, by far.
@PoliticalHell Mac Pro's support 128GB of RAM, it's just not in the build to order options as the RAM will cost more than the rest of the entire system. 16GB DIMMS are crazy expensive and not all that common.
@PoliticalHell PC hardware definitely gives you more power for your money. Buying a mac gets you MAC OSX though, which is vastly superior to even Windows 7. So it's a trade off. (or just go hackintosh)
I have to elaborate on the "made in china" thing. China makes all levels of quality, depending on the designer and the final cost. Apple computers and parts are designed in Silicon Valley, not in China. Apple finds companies that can manufacture to their higher standards. Ok ran out of room.
@ChristopherJacques Although the first part is opinion, the second part is purely fact. I don't know where these people get at saying Mac build is equal to a PC build because they're assembled in the same country. I own a Mac Pro and the build quality is amazing. I never seen any metal PC cases with the type of precision this computer has.
@tshepp89 Another PC fanboy in mommy's basement calling people dickheads. The original argument is that he's comparing an i7 processor meant for HOME USE to a xeon processor meant for SERVER AND HD VIDEO EDITING WORK. That is all, ignorant PC fanboy.
@brianbuckler Mac's are computers too. The difference is the OS. Mac people pay a huge premium for their products. Do yourself a favour, build your own computer and just install snowleopard or whatever on it.
Sorry for calling you a dickhead, but Apple shit is made in china ;). I'm not being racist, I have an iPhone :p
Well, Xeon is for servers and machines that need lots of work for long amounts of time without breaks, so it is not designed for being fast or anything... but rather to be reliable and process lots of data continously.. or at least that's what i've experienced..
use your fucking brains! stop fucking asking 'which one is beter 1x A or 2x B?' are you people retarded? basically ANY 2x i7, i5 or xeon proccessors will be better than any single proccessor. its fucking obvious! "im retarded and i cant do simple math, which is better? 2 powerful bulls or one powerful bull?" THEY ALL ARE BETTER WHEN THERE ARE 2! also, for most of you , IT DOESNT EVEN FUCKING MATTER! STOP ASKING THEORETICAL QUESTIONS, MOST PEOPLE DONT EVEN NEED A DUAL CORE SO ......
the i7 is on helluva chip it can overclock way past 4ghz and has fast handling of several 16x slots.
the dual xeon setup is going to be abit slower because they are server grade hardware and meant to run only and nothing else of 3.66ghz (high end models). They also don't like more than 1 or 2 16x slot being used with graphic cards (small slow pipe controller for precision, not speed).
In the end, you will punch your brains out with xeons because of gaming lag
Xeon series are MADE FOR SERVERS — can work at full load longer time than an i7 at least in theory, I have a i7-950 which is way better than the Xeon in the video but Xeon can live longer than my i7...
@kingbords a processor can have multiple cores, it basically means there are the equivalent of 8 processors in it (each core treated as its own unit). Each process core has a thread (or 2 if it's multi-threaded) and each thread can do one thing at a time. If you have 8 cores, it means you can do 8 things at a time. Each core juggles processes in the computer, more you have = less juggling needed = faster computer.
Just so you all know, Xeon processers are built for server for the most part, so having one for the average consumer s pointless. No one except professionals/4k video editors/ 3d modelers/etc. would need that type of power.
@DawkinsForWeAreMany You know, you really need to read all that I write not just some words. I said consumer-based system. The i7980x system for $1800, it's been on their website since April. It's not a workstation, it's a home PC with 6 cores.
I know that for a Mac Pro is comparable with a workstation rather than a consumer PC, but that's not the point of this video, which was a response to debating the Mac Pro as a personal non-professional system.
As of now and always, the PC is and will be a better deal for a single-processor home system. If you want multiple processors, then consumer PCs cannot provide that at this time as far as I know, so you're better off with a Mac Pro or some other over-priced workstation.
@DawkinsForWeAreMany About time don't you think? HP had a 6-core consumer-based system since April. I'll bet you that it will be half the price of the 6-core Mac pro :P
@L3gitSnipe The i7 980x is the most powerful consumer processor on the market. Try to think along the lines of the obvious subject of this video, which is consumer market budgeting.
xeon is workstation grade and will outperform an i7 in things like digital media and audio and database mgnt, but the i7 may be a little better at gaming, idk i game on an opter on x6(same thing as xeon in AMD) and its far better than my friends i7 920 x(note than most games that ive noticed) dont use all of my 6 cores, only 3 or 4, rarely 5
@TheGuiletech I haven't checked the newest models, and I don't know anything about AMDs. I think (unless it's been changed again) the 980x i7 is the most powerful intel processor now by a long stretch. The Xeons were replaced by the new X models.
@PoliticalHell ha evn on passmarks, the Intel Core i7 X 980 @ 3.33GHz is 10,176 , while the next highest is the Intel Xeon X5670 @ 2.93GHz at 9,652 , but intel only supports fully buffered dim :X but at least i hav ecc
Here is the good news for single-quad core mac pro users only: Originally bought through a trade up of my 2008 - 2.66 quad core xeon mac pro. Bought core i7-975 and non ecc memory - result: desktop parts work in the mac pro!!!
No more needing xeon anymore.. personally, i think ecc memory is a waste of time and xeon is the same thing. no real diff except for price xeon w3520=core i7-920
The difference is that I7 is more stable for most applications because the Xeon server = is rather on the large stones or 3D rendering, but my Xeon 5620 had 9000 in 3D Mark 06 is sometimes a beat 970X .. ..
@XSLOLO Doubt it. Apple wants to upgrade their Mac Pros to the 970X, why would they upgrade to it if it's slower? Not to mention the fact that it's proven to be faster, oh and it's 4 years ahead of the Xeon models...
Xeons are much more stable, the whole i7 4core are just a few die's, xeons have more of those die features enabled, those are like the best and stable die's that came out of the manufacturing process.
That is why servers use Xeon processor, ecc memory, sas + raid. it costs a lot but you do not have to worry about crashing.
i can give the best comment, and that is POLITICALHELL nothing will be worth except laughing on ur stupid post. FOLKS! he hasn't got brain, has he? XEON are meant for 24into7 for reliable and stable performances where as i7 can only cope up 8-9into7.
we all must agree with
MysticTrunksHQ. and my advice to the postman of this video is GO-GET-SOME-KNOWLEDGE-.
@dancemastigoldy I suppose this is my mistake for not clarifying the description correctly, which I will rectify immediately to spare future confusion. This video was intended in all aspects to be a part of a Youtube hot topic a few months back debating why somebody would buy a Mac Pro as opposed to a regular i7 PC. This debate did not necessarily involve industrial or high-level work environments, but rather personal computing.
It's pretty stupid to compare workstation power to consumer power.
The highest Xeon will smoke the highest i7.
The Xeon processor is more expensive because it's more powerful, the same with workstation graphics cards.
Though I choose to get consumer gamer cards because there fucking cheaper! I'll choose xeon over the i7 anyday but when it comes to graphics cards I can't spend like $5000 for a ultra high end gfx card!
Workstations are more powerful cause they need to run ultra high end apps.
The i7 is relatively new; the Xeon is older. The price-to-power ratio sides with i7. It's not just cheaper to get an i7, it's often more powerful as well. If you watched the video at all, you'd know that only two Xeon models are better then i7, one barely, and both of them cost a hell lot more.
dude you compared it with a xeon w5550 the w5590 smokes the i7 975 if your talking price then then i7 wins but if price dosent matter than the xeon w5590 is the way to go
@UnD3adC1an The xeon w5590 doesn't come in most computers such as the Mac Pro, which back in the day, was the hot topic of discussion. Now the new i7 workstation processors that are coming out will humiliate all other processors for existing.
yeah if its price and avalability then the new i7 is is better but you pretty much just compared benchmarks and if you were comparing just those then the w5590 wins hands down
Did you knew that only 20% of personal computer users have "Mac Pro", if i want something powerfull i will build my own pc, so why not test i7 versus w5590?
20% of computer owners have a Mac Pro? What statistic did you take that from? Last I checked 10% of computer users owned a Mac, and a majority of those use a Macbook Pro.
This video was made in response to a Mac vs. PC debate. That was the whole point of it, and that's why I compared it this way.
I'm just pointing out that I really don't think it's worth paying for a $1000 processor if the consumer level processor out performs it.
This wasn't a complete bash on workstations, just the processor part. If I can get higher benchmarks with a CPU for $700 less, somebody really needs to redo pricing.
I'm sure when the new workstation processors come out they will smoke the i7 and claim their worth again.
he said "good" music right?

@dirty1smelly1turban stop saying so many words! just tell me which one's better!
dogzer 1 year ago
@dirty1smelly1turban i7 980x vs xeon
the i7 is on helluva chip it can overclock way past 4ghz and has fast handling of several 16x slots.
the dual xeon setup is going to be abit slower because they are server grade hardware and meant to run only and nothing else of 3.66ghz (high end models). They also don't like more than 1 or 2 16x slot being used with graphic cards (small slow pipe controller for precision, not speed).
In the end, you will punch your brains out with xeons because of gaming lag

8 core? can u explain what does that mean? (im a newbie with this stuffs)
kingbords 1 year ago
@kingbords a processor can have multiple cores, it basically means there are the equivalent of 8 processors in it (each core treated as its own unit). Each process core has a thread (or 2 if it's multi-threaded) and each thread can do one thing at a time. If you have 8 cores, it means you can do 8 things at a time. Each core juggles processes in the computer, more you have = less juggling needed = faster computer.
PoliticalHell 1 year ago 2
@kingbords Even easier explainer; The more cores and the more GHz, the faster.

Are you comparing them against Alienwares? LOL.
Centribo 1 year ago
Just so you all know, Xeon processers are built for server for the most part, so having one for the average consumer s pointless. No one except professionals/4k video editors/ 3d modelers/etc. would need that type of power.
Centribo 1 year ago
@DawkinsForWeAreMany You know, you really need to read all that I write not just some words. I said consumer-based system. The i7980x system for $1800, it's been on their website since April. It's not a workstation, it's a home PC with 6 cores.
I know that for a Mac Pro is comparable with a workstation rather than a consumer PC, but that's not the point of this video, which was a response to debating the Mac Pro as a personal non-professional system.
PoliticalHell 1 year ago
As of now and always, the PC is and will be a better deal for a single-processor home system. If you want multiple processors, then consumer PCs cannot provide that at this time as far as I know, so you're better off with a Mac Pro or some other over-priced workstation.
PoliticalHell 1 year ago
@PoliticalHell forget macs go the workstation
lenoat702 1 year ago
@DawkinsForWeAreMany About time don't you think? HP had a 6-core consumer-based system since April. I'll bet you that it will be half the price of the 6-core Mac pro :P
PoliticalHell 1 year ago
@PoliticalHell lets try and get a 12 core pc and who cares about 6 core they already had 8 so.
L3gitSnipe 1 year ago
@L3gitSnipe The i7 980x is the most powerful consumer processor on the market. Try to think along the lines of the obvious subject of this video, which is consumer market budgeting.

xeon is workstation grade and will outperform an i7 in things like digital media and audio and database mgnt, but the i7 may be a little better at gaming, idk i game on an opter on x6(same thing as xeon in AMD) and its far better than my friends i7 920 x(note than most games that ive noticed) dont use all of my 6 cores, only 3 or 4, rarely 5
TheGuiletech 1 year ago

No more needing xeon anymore.. personally, i think ecc memory is a waste of time and xeon is the same thing. no real diff except for price xeon w3520=core i7-920
Nadav34 1 year ago
The difference is that I7 is more stable for most applications because the Xeon server = is rather on the large stones or 3D rendering, but my Xeon 5620 had 9000 in 3D Mark 06 is sometimes a beat 970X .. ..
XSLOLO 1 year ago
I have an intel Xeon 5620 and is more faster than the I7 970X ;)
XSLOLO 1 year ago
@XSLOLO Doubt it. Apple wants to upgrade their Mac Pros to the 970X, why would they upgrade to it if it's slower? Not to mention the fact that it's proven to be faster, oh and it's 4 years ahead of the Xeon models...

PATRIENIX 1 year ago
Workstation shit costs a hella lot more, but are way more reliable that that crazy shit you know nigga?
gatler05 1 year ago
Xeons are much more stable, the whole i7 4core are just a few die's, xeons have more of those die features enabled, those are like the best and stable die's that came out of the manufacturing process.
That is why servers use Xeon processor, ecc memory, sas + raid. it costs a lot but you do not have to worry about crashing.
verbindingsfout 1 year ago
I have a Xeon. It's more reliable, overclocks better and require less voltage increase for overclocking.
Xeon rules!

i can give the best comment, and that is POLITICALHELL nothing will be worth except laughing on ur stupid post. FOLKS! he hasn't got brain, has he? XEON are meant for 24into7 for reliable and stable performances where as i7 can only cope up 8-9into7.
we all must agree with

dancemastigoldy 2 years ago

MysticTrunksHQ 2 years ago
The i7 is relatively new; the Xeon is older. The price-to-power ratio sides with i7. It's not just cheaper to get an i7, it's often more powerful as well. If you watched the video at all, you'd know that only two Xeon models are better then i7, one barely, and both of them cost a hell lot more.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
Have you even tested Xeon vs I7 yet? Cause your opinion, will be flipped.
gatler05 1 year ago
dude you compared it with a xeon w5550 the w5590 smokes the i7 975 if your talking price then then i7 wins but if price dosent matter than the xeon w5590 is the way to go
UnD3adC1an 2 years ago
@UnD3adC1an The xeon w5590 doesn't come in most computers such as the Mac Pro, which back in the day, was the hot topic of discussion. Now the new i7 workstation processors that are coming out will humiliate all other processors for existing.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
yeah if its price and avalability then the new i7 is is better but you pretty much just compared benchmarks and if you were comparing just those then the w5590 wins hands down
UnD3adC1an 2 years ago
Well yeah, but even if you read the description, I was comparing the 5500 series, which is not the best one there was.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
oh woops my bad i didnt read the description yeah the i7 wins a hell of a lot more than the 5500 seris
UnD3adC1an 2 years ago
@PoliticalHell
Did you knew that only 20% of personal computer users have "Mac Pro", if i want something powerfull i will build my own pc, so why not test i7 versus w5590?
shigalbigal 2 years ago
20% of computer owners have a Mac Pro? What statistic did you take that from? Last I checked 10% of computer users owned a Mac, and a majority of those use a Macbook Pro.
This video was made in response to a Mac vs. PC debate. That was the whole point of it, and that's why I compared it this way.

Workstation = stability
Workstation=/= speed
sc0pl355 2 years ago
I'm just pointing out that I really don't think it's worth paying for a $1000 processor if the consumer level processor out performs it.
This wasn't a complete bash on workstations, just the processor part. If I can get higher benchmarks with a CPU for $700 less, somebody really needs to redo pricing.
I'm sure when the new workstation processors come out they will smoke the i7 and claim their worth again.
PoliticalHell 2 years ago
well, the points of xeons are:
1) Stability
2) With little error
sc0pl355 2 years ago 2
@sc0pl355
Wrong. Low voltage.
scottycatman 2 years ago
@PoliticalHell Gaming wise, it outperforms barely, benchmark and everything else the Xeon rapes.
scottycatman 2 years ago
@sc0pl355
Actually, the voltages on the Xeon are lower making extreme overclocking easy. So the Xeon's only real con is the price.
