much easier, only a few steps with EAC (exactaudiocopy.de).

after installation go through the setup configuration wizard (or not, it does not matter for this particular task).

click on Tools > Decompress and find your mp3, give a destination folder and that's it! no crappy bloated apple software, no more wait... wait.... wait... wait...

I'm trying to figure out how to do this because Yahoo! Messenger only allows .wav files to be their message alerts because .wav files are so much smaller than .mp3. In my opinion, you should use .wav when you are wanting to have less space used on your hard drive.
