The leak is about 19,000 barrels a day for 50 days. There are 42 gallons in a brl and 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot. multiply (19,000 * 42) * 50 days = 39,000,000 gallons. Now, 39,000,000 / 7.48 gls in a cubic ft = 5,334,225 square feet of oil spill that is one foot deep. Multiply by 2 for a 6 inch deep spill. That equals 10, 668,448. Now Make this area square by finding the sq. root. The sq root is 3,266 feet. ALL OF THE OIL LEAKED AMOUNTS TO 3/4 OF A SQ. MILE 6 INCH DEEP. I THINK WE'LL BE OK!

this is all i can think of (sorry there might flaws as I am not an engineer).
on surface of ocean, they should round oil tankers/containers together and start pumping oil and ocean water on surface into tankers and let gravity sort out the oil and ocean water inside the tankers and pump the bottom which would be ocean water out of the tankers.
and the bottom, i thought it was a thin layer that hole looks really thick, i can't think of a plug idea all i can come up with is use a giant drill bit just larger the hole like how you would plug a nail hole with a screw but leave the drill bit in there as the plug. one giant drill is a small price to pay. I don't have any other idea that i can help with.
oh, and also if the oil coming up at such extreme pressure, maybe drilling a giant screw at a 45 angle just to the side a bit (maybe, that should help since it'll translate into more torque instead of having to fight with upward force of the oil.

Now, 39,000,000 / 7.48 gls in a cubic ft = 5,334,225 square feet of oil spill that is one foot deep. Multiply by 2 for a 6 inch deep spill. That equals 10, 668,448. Now Make this area square by finding the sq. root. The sq root is 3,266 feet. ALL OF THE OIL LEAKED AMOUNTS TO 3/4 OF A SQ. MILE 6 INCH DEEP. I THINK WE'LL BE OK!

I do totally agree that is wrong and can't believe that some sort of shut off valve isn't fitted when initially drilling so that when something like this happens it can be closed off.

on surface of ocean, they should round oil tankers/containers together and start pumping oil and ocean water on surface into tankers and let gravity sort out the oil and ocean water inside the tankers and pump the bottom which would be ocean water out of the tankers.

and the bottom, i thought it was a thin layer that hole looks really thick, i can't think of a plug idea all i can come up with is use a giant drill bit just larger the hole like how you would plug a nail hole with a screw but leave the drill bit in there as the plug. one giant drill is a small price to pay. I don't have any other idea that i can help with.
