How can it have 20 applications including 30 games?
My linux box came from the flea market and cost 2x less. Its ugly and (pretty) big and it has a 15 gig hard drive and a Pentium 3 and it doesn't even run Cube and its one of those machines that you put horizontally on your desk and stick a CRT on top. But I love it still. Plus its 90% free software, the only non-free parts being an NVIDIA driver that I don't want or need but its still there and JDK 6.
okay i dont think anyone gets what zonbu actually is, you pay monthly not for linux but for access to there server where you can store you data, so instead of have a harddrive you have a small flash storage and web server to hold most of you data. I think this is really cool and I personally am looking forward to the upcoming zonbu laptop.
THIS IS OPEN OFFICE. ZONBU had NOTHING to do with the creation or development of Open Office. Calling it the "Zonbu Office Suite" clearly violates the General Public License (GPL) under which this software was released! This could, and should, land Zonbu in court! Disgusting!
In what way does it violate the GPL? If Zonbu release the source code for their branding it's fine - In the same way that i'm using IceWeasel on Debian Linux right now; Firefox name and logo is trademarked, because debian only ships with totally free software and firefox source code is open they change the name and logo and release the new code. That's what makes the GPL so great.
Can I add something about the violation of the GPL and the office suite? Look at 4:38. Look at the title bar of the program. It says OpenOffice at the end of the bar, so in this case Zonbu are not endorsing themselves for the word processors, It IS OpenOffice.
A monthly fee for Linux??? Give me a break. The Zonbu OS doesn't look like anything special. It's just GNOME made to look like KDE. Also, what's the deal with frogs?
Ubuntu can do everything the video showed... and it's free... 99 bucks kinda defeat the purpose of "linux". I'd rather pay 99 bucks to get a windows vista home edition to avoid compatibility problem than this...
First, I need to apologize for not knowing the detail about Zonbu. I thought $99 is for just the OS. If $99 for both machine and OS is definitely a bargain. Just, a monthly fee isn't that appealing to me...
For $99 bucks Vista HE, a local PC store in our area is selling in that price. I am not sure if that's expensive or cheap since I am not planning to upgrade to Vista any time soon.
I never heard of "monthly" pay for the service...you usually just pay once...example, the "supported" version of Open SUSE comes in a nice case and it's $60...that's what you pay for the support but only that time...there's probably kind of like a warranty of course so when it's over I have no idea but you probably can pay again...but not monthly
...besides if Windows doesn't even have that why would Linux have it?...I think the laptop is better because it comes with a 60GB hard drive (or so it says) so I don't know if you "have" to subscribe to the service for that one...I don't know...
You're paying for the hardware too...but not even Windows or Mac or any other propietary OS has a "monthly fee" for support...so why should Linux have it?
for the tards saying why pay for linux? im pretty sure the 99$ is for the system not the OS =\, the firefox window looked like it lagged abit, could just be the video, the box at the end was pretty nice like a black mac mini with more style
Nice. I'm sure once Zonbu proves it a works and works out most of the bugs, Microsoft will come along. Actually, Microsoft has been talking about some similar ideas for a few years, but are apparently waiting for someone else to take the risk, after which they'll no doubt steal the fruit thereof.
wow they emphasize on the points that most basic computers already have because everyone has them, lol access any webpage, i'd sure as hell hope so lmao
I hope people don't buy these things.

$99 is for the MACHINE! Hardware AND the OS!
And how, exactly would Windows Vista HE cost $99, anyways?

A monthly fee for tech support isn't too uncommon with Linux, as you have to realize that most Linux distros pay per incident on tech support.
Of course, Windows doesn't cover Tech support for more than installation either, but then again, Windows still has a stranglehold on the market.
