"get that laser on the chief" is clearly said during the arms race vid on one of the ODST's radios. thats why the Marines kno where you are at the beggining of halo 3 when u see the exact same thing happening. a ship in re-entry and the master chief jumping out and falling away from it at re-entry speed. so a tracking laser on the chief is placed, then orderd "fall back!" and then the brute got the rocket up his ass and its over door closes vids done. lol
