yea, i saw him hit the brakes before I even saw the ledge, blipped my brakes wondering what the hell he was slowing down for..(he'd slowed on dozens of smaller slopes before that too).. sending the nose down. Could have stopped if I saw the ledge and knew why he was stopping...or could have gassed it and made the jump perhaps too. The bike wasn't really damaged, and really everything turned out pretty good...guess it makes a good video anyways LOL :D

It does ok..a 450 4 stroke does better. If you ride mostly dunes, my opinion, a 450 is the way to go.

Yep, bike hitting the brakes was a dead give away. Don't feel bad man I have done it 1000 times at Little Sahara. Gotta ride slow and check the "layout" before getting crazy. Did you have a chest protector on? (not that it would give alot of protection)?

damn this happened to me too back when i used to ride quads only i drove off a razor back like 3rd gear pinned flew like 20 feet landed rear wheels slammed down the front and slammed my chest on the bars, good thing i had the right gear or i would have broken alot of ribs lol

Is it just me or does it look like he let go of the handlebars right before his front tire hits the ground? I swear, in slow motion you can see the shadow of the front tire hasn't met up with the real tire when he lets go. You are a good rider but you should have put you butt on your rear fender, held on for dear life, and opened that throttle wide! I've done the same thing & usually come out ok. Sometimes I'll bounce off the seat and then crash, but that's much better than face planting!

yep, first instinct was wrong perhaps. I think my first thought was to avoid the bike plowing in to me head first into the sand and breaking my neck while I was still holding onto the bars.

dude, ya shoulda pinned it as soon as you saw that razorback! i almost did the same thing once, but i managed to land flat. although it was a super hard landing. bottomed the suspension and my foot caught the sand and wrapped it around the peg, plus my back was sore for the rest of the day... had to ride back to camp real easy after that!

I did almost that same exact thing off of a dune ledge in Moab. I didn't crash though. I saw the ledge coming and I pulled back and hit the gas hard. I took the impact and bottomed out my suspension on my 450. My back was hurting for a few days afterward but it was messed up already from a car wreck anyway. I felt your pain when I saw your video.

I've seen this at least a half dozen times with myself, other riders, on tv(nitro circus), the moaning sound is a dead give away that they have the wind knocked out of them. I don't really know why. I do know that the best thing to do in that situation is to try to breathe out forceably...the moan seems automatic with me.lol. It always feels like you won't ever be able to take another breathe! The last time I passed out/knocked myself out too…sucks.

Thanks, 3rd gear going up the first long hill. I ended up with 3 cracked vertebrae in my upper back. Six weeks before I can ride again, could have been much worse pretty easily though.
