Channel 4 showed and still show too many American-made programmes, thus not allowing any time for more British-made programmes. After all, it is a British [excluding Wales] channel.
i did not saw this ident before, but at the closedown, it said, "huff and a puff and a very very goodnight" it's that the first ident arrived on closedowns?
The first ident on C4 closedowns was on 3rd November 1982 - they day after they launched. Apart from their very first closedowns, all of their closedowns followed the routine in the video above.
The extact date of this clip is the early hours of January 23rd 1989. I know as its the date of the best super bowl ever XXIII which took place on the 22nd of Jan but due to the time difference it was the 23rd of Jan here in the UK.
Bliss, from a time when Channel 4 held American Football firm since their beginning in 1982, and then Murdoch came muscleing in and snatched it. Not that I was ever interested in Grid Iron but that's not the point. My point is that British TV was simmering along nicely and then big bucks come in and spoil it all. And don't even get me started about Big Brother. Mike S.
Usually shows known to "jump the shark" (get worse) when they replace a character during the series but replacing Shelley Long with Kirstie Alley was an improvement and made the show better.
49ers second to last superbowl win was jan 22 1989. Jerry rice mvp joe montana's last superbowl. Thats football.

What an awesome ident, an explosion of colour - and the only channel which has retained the same logo for all this time! I quite like the 4 logo.

There was a closedown from channel 4 where there was a hand with different coloured fingers. Do you have it?

I agree that money and tripe like Big Brother have ruined UK TV. The NFL can still be seen on Channel 5 but all the main playoff games are on sky.

A slim Kirstie Alley, along with the "normal" Roseanne ... those were the days ...

I wish TV channels would close down these days, rather than ripping off drunks. Thanks for the upload.
