  • Great video post. I am not sure about all of the banter below though. The words of hate are not necessary. The Boss would not approve.

  • @FACTNAOCL Yes, I agree with you completely

  • I know EXACTLY what Stewart is talking about. I am 20 and trying to figure shit out, and got dead end jobs, working my ass off for minimum wage. But when I am driving home and I put on Badlands or The Promised Land or Born to Run, all that stuff goes away, and I am just paying my dues on the path to something greater. Maybe that's just empty faith, but it gets me through life. I ain't religious so maybe that hope that Bruce gives me fills that void. It makes me happy knowing Jon was the same way

  • Wow, all those douche bags under one roof! So much fun listening to one douche bag congratulate another.

  • @challenger0315 Wow, who were you talking about? Cuz I was talking about my cock under the roof of your mouth, and it's so much fun listening to you go MMMMMFFFAUUUGHHMMMMMFFFF.

  • @googlymoogly64 Oh look, another tough guy liberal getting his panties in a bunch. Wow, you really told me didn't you? The only mouth your pathetic little cock has been in is your mommies.

  • @challenger0315 You shouldn't say things like that to your father. Don't want me breaking out the belt on ya, do you? Run along now and be a good little boy. Faggot.

  • @googlymoogly64 Oh wow you really told me off. "Faggot"? Wow, when was the last time I heard that word? I think i was in third grade. Listen genius, if you are going to have a battle of wits at least come prepared.

  • @challenger0315 A battle of wits? What the fuck are you talking about, faggot? Are you riding into this battle in assless chaps on your faggot horse? Are you cupping a massive jousting staff in your hands? I'm not taking part in your faggy little renaissance fantasy, queer. All I said was you're a queer and I'm fucking your mother. That's really all there is to it.

  • @googlymoogly64 Okay this is just way too easy...A battle of wits and you wind up in the mid evil times jousting? And just what is with you with all this homosexual reference crap? I mean seriously dude, you started with that crap right from the start. Did your Uncle visit you one dark lonely night in your bedroom and your longing for his touch again? Why don't you try daddy? Don't bother writing back because I won't respond anymore. You're a cry baby little liberal. Thanks for the entertainment

  • @challenger0315 En garde, my good ass-pirate! May you have much luck in stabbing your saber in the anus of your rivals! I fully concede all your points in the arguments we've had, and I sincerely hope you have great fortune in the buttfucking department! May your D be ever graced with butt juice, and may your face be ever graced with the sparkling seed of your enemies! Congratulations to you, oh victor, on your mighty conquest of all things penis! Penis! Penis! Fag.

  • bruce springsteen legend of rock

  • Great tribute to the greatest songwriter and live performer of all time..

  • "When you hear Bruce you aren't a loser, you are a character in an epic poem about losers"OMG Stewart nailed it straightway!Incidentally both of them hail from New Jersey.

  • It is amazing how many stars you can find in the audience that are Bruce fans. what an overdue event for one of the greatest (if not the greatest) artist of the last 40 years.

  • @nutbagbrew102 Fuck your god. He didn't write "Born to Run".

  • @CoolerKing37 Bruce wrote it. It took about six months for him and the band to finish it on the album. Steven laughed about it and said: "Making a song would not take more than three hours to make..."

  • Six people have been fired by the Boss.

  • God has blessed America when we can count Bruce Springsteen and Jon Stewart as native sons.

  • Jon - Once again you nail it. Bruce empties the tank. Seen him do it so many times - his music has saved my life many times - and I'm gonna need his voice and courage again. AND - it's really about just him and his wonderful gift. Bless You Bruce.

  • @jellybeengood You clearly aren't right about the first part, however the second part is right. He's better than Bob Dylan. Also, being the third-highest grossing music artist ever, I think that he can be the boss of whoever he wants

  • @mechemicalromance

Bruce is great, but I doubt even he'd say that he's better than Dylan. Just listen to his speech inducting him into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

  • @jellybeengood thank fuck for that.

  • @jellybeengood Thank god for that...

  • What a great tribute. My colleagues in the legal profession have had entire symposiums on the works of Bruce Springsteen. You may wonder what the Boss would have to do with lawyers, but a lot of them are not only inspired by his works, but see the impact of his lyrics in our zealous advocacy for our clients. It is amazing how one artist can profoundly touch peoples lives. What living artist can claim this???

  • D B BOSS IS D BERRY BESTESTS!

  • My son and I watched this totally glued to the TV. I had just taken him to see Bruce at Giants Stadium. He's as big a Bruce fan as there ever is.

  • @ChrisDutch How old is your son Chris? That is very cool he is a Springsteen fan. I first heard Bruce when i was 13. I saw him do The Rising at the MTV Video Music Awards and I thought he was amazing!!!

  • @RealTime88 He'll be sixteen next month. I took him to see Bruce back in 2008 for the Magic tour at Giants Stadium. I'll never forget his expression when Bruce wrapped up his set with Badlands. The band left the stage and everyone was standing. They knew the encores were coming but Kyle didn't. The crowd started to sing the "OH.OH,OH,OH," following the Badlands melody. Kyle suddenly brightened up and started singing along. He had an awesome time. We're still in mourning over the Big Man.

  • @ChrisDutch So am I. Clarence and my father both died earlier this summer. I should point out to you Chris that Magic is my favorite album of Bruce's. I really went nuts over the song on Magic called "Long Walk Home" I have to think that song is about Bruce's hometown. His music in recent years has been the best he has done since Born In The USA. I think Bruce is a better musician and songwriter. I think the last 10 years in America has given him a lot to write. Kyle is a lucky young man!

  • @RealTime88 Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. My deepest sympathies to you about your dad; I lost my younger sister earlier this year. I had often teased her in a brotherly way about getting to see Bruce for many years but finally I took her to the Garden about ten years ago and we saw a really awesome show. We can keep it together with ther spirit and love that Bruce shows and the music will take us through.

  • I really like this speech! Bruce the best!

  • Footnote...I am from New Jersey. Many of us resonate with Born to Run being the state's song in that it is about getting the hell out haha

  • I'm currently working on my Ph D. in Experimental Psychology and I would not be here without the music of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. When I write my dissertation, they're going in the Acknowledgments section

  • can someone tell me what song the instrumental music that starts playing at 8.29 is from

  • @rickyn1980 Secret Garden

  • inspiring

  • "...I'd put on the music of Bruce Springsteen and everything changed...."

In one sentence Jon has summed it up. Bruce has taken so many of us on his journey that in some strange way he became a part of our life/my life.

  • BUT IM FROM NEW JERSEY!! :D

  • The President of the United State stands for one man...The Boss...Bruce Springsteen.

  • what is the song from 6:54 to 7:20??

  • @jessicakeg The Promised Land

  • @mechemicalromance thank you!

  • I don't know why but it just saddens me to see Bruce Springsteen old I miss him... We need more musicians like him

  • Obama : " The Reason Why I'm Running For President Is Because I Can't Be Bruce Springsteen "

  • Bruce Springsteen, President Barack Obama, Meryl Streep, among others, in the same room?!? Holy cra*!!

  • I am from New Jersey!

  • "Bob Dylan and James Brown had a baby..." ... ROFLMAO. Bruce rocks, but Jon truly rocked this night.

  • What an excellent synopsis for under 5 minutes!! Great job!

  • got chills down my spine

  • What performance is the clip at 5:35 from?

  • @DesertRose85

    Ohio in 76 or 77.

  • A beautiful and moving tribute to the poet of our generation. I love "I'm in a lifelong journey with my audience..." Bruce, we are with you every step of the way. Your music gives us hope for a better day and without that hope, we are nothing.

  • idk ... the last half of this gets real sappy. I like Bruce ... he can really kick ass on stage ... I just ... I just ... I just think that's the only thing he should do. Save the Holywood crap for the Hollywoodies. They're always giving out awards to each other. Don't the rest of us count?

Music only means somthing in the context of the people. Remember?

  • @bapyou do you even know what the Kennedy Center award is- well it isn't hollywood. look it up.

  • @phxkayote I don't give a fuck about "the Kennedy Center award." You do. I like Bruce's music. Whether or not he gets some award is immaterial. And everything else I wrote in my comment stands. There are gobs of Hollywood grups in this audience. It's a schmooze-fest. Don't fucking tell me; I know these creeps. Half of them are so fucking untalented it's motherfucking incredulous. One of the freshest breaths of air the past 5 years was Jonh Lydon telling the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame "Fuck off."

  • Sponsored by whom?! Now I really want to know! :P

  • Stewart is great, what an awesome speech doing Springsteen justice. Great job!

  • One of the greatest speech! and tribute to Bruce Springstein!

  • everyone here should listen to Devils and Dust. His most important song at this moment in our history.

  • That was fantastic. I love Jon Stewart, and he was awesome here.

And what he says about Springsteens music is so true. Hell, I live on the other side of the world in New Zealand...never been to the US and never seen Springsteen live. But what he sings about is kind of a universal thing. Everyone can relate.

I don't need the bible...I can find more truth and honesty in the works of Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan.

  • The guy @ 5:57 looks just like that dude from The Sopranos.

  • @Novinte Ya think?

  • @ekimp252 I really didn't know who he was. /shame

  • @Novinte It IS the guy from the Sopranos. He went into acting after years of performing music.

  • @Novinte steven van zandt is that dude from the sopranos

  • Stewart's a genius. Great Speech

  • One of the best speeches I've ever heard. Stewart's a genius.

"but I am from New Jersey!........"

  • @TheMahankind55 Totally agree! Jon Stewart was genius - and hillarious.

(Springsteen's parents are Bob Dylan and James Brown)? Dabbing little tears from my eyes.

  • I never say this but THAT was awesome. Jon Stewart is great. i did a lot of sales calls drivin' round New Jersey. Believe me, if anybody deserve a guy like Bruce it is the people of New Jersey. Tough state. It doesn't all look like Alpine, Upper Montclair and Princeton. BTW, Jack Black's wife is hot. She is Charlie Haden's daughter. Charlie is one of the greatest jazz bassists in history.

  • I love that video that sums up the history of Bruce Springsteen :) Jon Stewart is a great narrator

  • that bob dillan james brown thing was hilarious!!! honestly, bruce is blacker than most black men

  • CBS ...the last of great American networks

  • The Promise Land

  • 4:25 bruce had him self some 70's girly arms

  • The car was invented for 2 reasins birth control for young males and 2 so that the pinto wouldnt feelk so bad about its self

  • Can somebody please tell me the song at 6:55 please

  • @ksenaratne promised land

  • @ksenaratne The Promised Land

  • @ksenaratne It's not badlands. The song that begins at 6:55 is "The Promised Land". Oddly enough my personal favorite Bruce song after The RIver.

  • Bruce is gods face and brain on earth, to tell us what to do and what to search for!

  • Bruuuuuce!! <3 He's the best!

  • I've been watching the Kennedy Center Honors for years and this ranks as my favorite tribute of all -- hilariously funny, deeply moving, filled with insight and poetic turns of phrase, all thanks to Jon Stewart - and the masterful work of Bruce Springsteen. All that and superb video quality to boot!

  • who is the woman at 1.15 mark?

  • but I am from New Jersey

  • can anyone tell me what the song at 5:05 is!

  • American rock god! Thank you Boss!

  • @dracoslover123 not just an american rock god but also an irish rock god

  • @ashfordman09

and also dutch. don't forget that. springsteen is a true dutch name. it means stepping stone.

  • Great clip! I love Jon Stewart.

It's great to watch someone who can be both funny and sincere. It's a rare combination and somehow he always manages to do it. That's why I watch the Daily SHow every day.

He's funny here, but if you really pay attention to what he's saying, this is very moving.

    Thanks for posting it!

  • John Stewart killed it man

  • Nothing like the guy. Nothing, I swear to the Creator his music and presence has been a great gift to all for the last two generations.

  • I laughed so much while watching this! Great tribute!!!

  • Someone PLEEEAAASSSEEE make him tour again.

I stupidly missed out last year.

  • Bruce doesn't just sing........He testifies.

  • jon stewart is always ON

  • badlands

  • AMAZING LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

  • "working on a dream " ..from which concert?

  • @majed99140 half time show superbowl 2009

  • @majed99140 That is from the superbowl

  • That's why I will always love him. A lot of young singer might learn from him. When we hear about him, it's for his music, his songs, and his projects. Never from drugs, bad behaviours, misconduct. He is about respect. You don't call him the Boss for nothing.

  • Anyone know what the song is from 828 to 839?

  • @bobdobs56 The secret Garden

  • Promised Land

  • Chills........ : )

  • damnit, now i'm feeling inspired all over again. you do it to me EVERY time, BRUCE!

  • I love that it does not matter even at a shindig like the KCH you can still hear bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce, love it. oh gotta ask nemesis1365 why is it so hard to believe that President Obama EVER listened to a Bruce Springsteen album

  • "Inter-racial same-sex relationship being what they were." I fell on the floor laughing at the time (really), and was delighted to find this again here.

  • Ditto

  • "Whenever I see Bruce Springsteen do anything, He empties the tank..." sums it up...

  • you got that right!

  • @ekimp252

    Indeed it does.

  • That's made my day. I think I'll point the people who just don't seem to get it in the direction of this video.

  • That's what I'm talkin' about!

  • if you dont know badlands your in for a treat

I believe James Brown & Bob Dylan had a baby...".

  • jon stewart is a hoot

  • Well...I am from NJ... in fact I work in a factory in Bruce's hometown of Freehold, I went to catholic school, i cruised the circuit...Holy Shit, I'm a character in his songs !

  • I'm not from NJ, but I'm proud to be one of those charachters in his epic poems about losers. When he told me that we were Born to Run, I hopped on board and have been riding with him ever since. We've travelled many miles, took many detours and rebuilt the engine once or twice, but his words remained true and his music provided joy to the soundtrack of my life. And now that we find ourselves half way to heaven and just a mile out of hell, I'm still on board. 'Cause baby we were born to run.

  • Badlands

  • can anyone tell me what song that is from 5:59 to 6:07 please?

  • @Afireinside76 Badlands

  • @mechemicalromance

From 5:59 to 6:07 is Badlands. From 4:59 to 5:07 is She's the One off Live at Hammersmith Odean 1975 (London). It's a DVD included in the boxed set for the 30th anniversary edition of Born to Run, and man it just RIPS the whole way through.

  • badlands

  • its Badlands

  • @Afireinside76 it's badlands. 10th avenue freezeout is the one at 5.24 to 5.40.

  • wow..

  • This is great -Thx

    All smiles :-).

  • tweetgeneration-

I think the first is Nebraska

    Second is The Promised Land

Third is Working on a Dream i think.

  • Tenth Avenue Freeze Out and No Surrender...

  • It made me laugh, gave me the shivers, and then it made me cry.

  • Jon Stewart's tribute presentation was hilarious and such a great ending-Bruce said "I'm in the middle of a long conversation with my audience. It will be a long journey for both of us by the time we're done." Keep on going strong Bruce, we love you. The fans from New Jersey especially are so proud of you. I'm glad he received this honor.

  • I love jon stewart's little bow in the end.

  • @Ullygirldk That's called respect. It looked mutual. How wonderful.

  • What's the song in 5:25 and 5:59.

  • BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE. The most influencial American Rock and Roll star since Elvis. Congratulation Bruce, an honor well deserved.
