  • Always hated the guilt trips when trying to get rid of people, especially Chocobos. Always had to hit the button really fast. ;x

  • Who else just LOVES "He might be okay..."

  • regarding monks I like to learn Chakra, hp and mp restoring while earning some JP on the side. but I hardly understood half of the stuff in this game but made it pretty damn far, but I may heed more advice that you give, like only 4 party members XD

  • You can delete ramza, there is a glitch you can do to do it hee hee.

  • i like to learn chakra first for my monks. so so useful for hp/mp restore for long term battles. also makes mp switch just... sick xD

also my long term monk is usually female. solves the no headgear later when you can get the barette/cachusa/ribbons lol. just for the record, Reis makes for an incredible monk. usually my monk of choice

  • @blastwave2k Besides argis who is perfectly balanced.(and the divine knight whos name i forgot), i find converting the other unique characters to be game breaking.

  • 5:00 gill no gil

  • Angry Hat Toss Thief is my favorite character in this entire game.

  • The Impregnable fortress.... Briggs lol

  • Agrias <3 loved her in battle later (I know there are better unique characters later.. but I couldn't bring leaving her out of battle :D)

  • @S3lph131 i know lol i use her every battle. she is so op

  • Hi! I'm H.C: Bailly and welcome BECK!!! haha, i love that: BECK! I <3 YOU HCBAILLY!!!

  • GEEEK

  • This battle was always a little hard. Never got oracle spells with Holy Knight. Usually this battle they went after my mages like they had candy in thier pocket. As for monk abilities, HP Restore is my number 1 ability to get, then wave fist and chakra for Jp grinding.

  • The best thing about your commentaries is your love for both Star Wars and Star Trek. Hell, you COMBINED them in the intro. What more can you want?

  • XD Love your intro

  • 5:29

    Epic foreshadowing.

  • I take it your going to be getting a certain nostalgic secret character?

  • @MindstormXL Probably for completion purposes only. That secret character is WORTHLESS otherwise.

  • Best monk abilities ? Probably Wave Fist and Earth Slash. Chakra is pretty handy too.

  • For monk abilities, I get wave fist, then chakra, then revive, then whatever. But you might wanna get chakra first just to keep your mages fueled.

  • Your impressions sounded quite sinister :-)

  • 0:17 Nice Groundhog Day reference...

  • I love love LOVE the beginning of this video

  • Chakra > Revive > HP Restore

  • I always learn Wave Fist and Repeating Fist(?) first for my monk. With its zero height tolerance, Spin Fist is worthless.

  • Lancers are crazy good. Im shocked you said they are just okay in the intro 0.o

  • I like Ramza as a Ninja with Hamedo in Human battles, and to stick counter on him in random/monster battles. Versus a certain guy with multiple arms Hamedo works quite nicely.

As for Monk abilities, I love Wave Fist, then Repeating Fist, and then Chakra.

  • is it just me or does someone else find that when a spell is cast after a chant the spell is more likely to hit?

  • I like to learn the Earth Fist or whatever it is called for the Monk, its Attack pattern is like a straight line and hits everything on that line (doesn't stop on one enemy).

Also I learn Brawler (to have the abiltiy to be Barefist) and use it with a Ninja. Ninja + Brawler = Game Over.

  • yeah they misspelled "Gil" "Gill" one too many L's

  • For some reason when playing this game I ended up having trouble on all story related battles, but random battles I did very well all the time. By the time I got to chapter two I ended up having uh a few mimes (If I remember correctly haha!)

  • B-but your missing a special seen with Agrias later in the game by removing the two female knights.

  • 1st monk ability? hamedo or counter o_O

  • I have been playing along (It gave me a reason to play WotL with it's massive slowdown) and I am kinda trying to play a similar game to you. I have always considered the Oracles to be rather useless, but I have fallen in lust with their abilities. My Oracle/Priest and Wizard(or Summoner)/Time Mage duo is an unstoppable force.

  • A hero surviving certain death to come back as a villain? Hello, SaGa Frontier 2?

Why let the 3 temps join just to dismiss them, to snag their equips?

"Wizards come out to pla-ay." The Warriors, eh?

Otaku leveled up by KO-ing Chrona, heh.

No locations should be the same in FF12, as FFT is a different part of the world and/or after a FF6-like cataclysm.

  • @SchlossRitter I think certain areas are mentioned in FF12 that came up in FFT.

    Not to sure though.

  • Yet another random generic enemy with a unique portrait...

  • 2. Not sure if you know this, but if you don't have a dire need to maneuver, you can get extra turns faster by only using Move or Act.

If you don't Move or Act, instead of your CT going to 0, it goes to 40.

If you Move OR Act, but not both, it goes to 20.

If you do both, it resets to 0.

So if you want to get extra turns for characters, or use certain ones more often (like the Archer in the Fort Zeakden battle), just only Act then Wait without moving.

  • 2 things HCBailly:

    1. Since you deleted Alicia and Lavian, you won't be able to get the Tynar Rouge later in the game (You know, the female only accessory with +3 PA, +3 MA, Protect, Shell, Haste), since that cutscene requires you to have a certain gunman (trying to avoid spoilers, but I'm sure you know who), Agrias, Alicia, Lavian, and 500k when you land on a Trade City on the 1st of Cancer (Agrias' Birthday).

  • @fftgamer He's playing the original PSX version, retard!

  • @whplague As far as the Tynar, yes, I have been playing the PSP so often, I forgot that that scene isn't in the PSX, but the second part isn't PSX only, "retard".

  • @fftgamer Yeah thats only in the PSP version of the game.

  • Did HCBailly say B-ttf-uck?

  • This is a racy game, very "dark". I almost didn't want to watch it, but I followed through every day. Despite the long battles, This Is An Awsome Game! The storyline, a cross between Warcraft and Lord Of Empires, FF style... what really got me was that a commoner Delita (Sagit. random? who I am) was at ends with a dictative noble, Algus (sign ?) in the race to save Delita's sister only to fall short of rescue via deceptive espionage... THAT part really got to me,,Now what?!?Now the continuation!

  • The dialog between the Knight and the Thief in WotL adds the Thief's reasoning for settling for 700 gil.

"Done. Let it not be said I am not a pious man"

Then, his reaction to seeing Gaffgarion:

"Gods be good, that's Ser Gaffgarion! 700 gil a head for this?!"

This is a reference to the fact that Gaffy was expelled from the Touten, or Eastern Sky, for his brutal tactics in the war.

  • @Shadohime He says the "pious man" line because the other guy threatens to brand him as a heretic. I believe that threat is in the PSP version, just like in the PS1 version.

  • Honestly never really used Monks much (used them as a gateway as well), I mostly just used Wave Fist, Counter, and Hamedo while I had them

  • To say the truth THE BEST thing to do with a monk is to put the ninja ability Dual Wield on him, the monk will give 2 punches

Thumbs up so he can see it

  • First chakra, then wave fist, then earth slash, and then revive, I aways had 2 monks at my party, that is what I aways did to them

  • i think ramza should learn the chakra ability for a certain battle at a gate if you know what i mean

  • For a monk I mainly try to get wave fist, earth fist(I think that's what its called),chakra and counter,in my case alot of enemies tend to get in a nice file line for me in most battles,so its nice to hit a bunch of enemies at once, sometimes criticals just wipe them all out ^_^

  • If i remember right Forst Besselat in FF12 is also known as the Bethla garrison or something like that, might be why it comes to mind, could be wrong though

  • Ooh... between earth slash and wave fist for me. Chakra is also pretty nice, and Revive can be AMAZING... I can't choose >_< Monks in general are awesome especially with a certain Ninja ability.

  • what i learned from this is that the date is mildly important in this game.

  • Wave Fist and Chakra are my two favorites. A good ranged option and an overpowered healing ability that gets MP as well...almost perfect for mages.

  • Are you gonna strip one character of his equipment before a certain waterfall battle? or are you planning on fighting it the hard way?

  • HCBailly, you might want to consider learning Dual Wield for Chrona(I think that's your Monk) and perhaps equip the Squire ability. Spamming Accumulate 6 or 7 times then punching the enemy twice in the face is VERY nice. Just a friendly suggestion from a loyal viewer :)

  • @ShadowBlade4d4 I'll eventually learn Accumulate via JP sharing. As for Dual Wielding, it's too expensive. If only there were a cheaper ability that would allow me to accomplish the same thing...

  • @HCBailly you and your cryptic messages Mr.HC

  • @HCBailly Oh you mean like monk ab....never mind I think I know what your getting at.

  • Comment removed

  • @HCBailly Martial arts + Ninja job sounds good?

  • @HCBailly also the geneic characters and the unique ones have phrases they say when their brave is too low or their faith is too high (one to warn u about the high faith/low brave problem, and one when they leave your party because of high faith/low brave).

  • Earth Slash! That's my favorite skill to learn first. Hello 8 way damage! (It is earth-elemental however.) At the same time, Chakra and Revive are also invaluable. I also love the Bartz-monk sprites so much in this game. :D

  • If you keep Lavian and Alicia around, they show up much later in the game in a special scene with Agrias. Little known fact. Or maybe it's wide-known, who can say? lol

  • @cmauffray1 thats only in the psp version

  • @magustx ahh ok. yeah i think you're right - the scene with the dagger, right?

  • Wave Fist -> Repeating Fist -> Earth Slash. Maybe Chakra somewhere between those.

  • In the PSP version the 3 generics you get here are VERY, VERY important for a sidequest.

  • Your next LP should be Vanguard Bandits! I don't think it's very popular but it's and awesome game.

  • Always love the Groundhog Day that reference.

  • Too . . . many . . . Return of the Jedi quotes . . . Time to break out the VHS.

  • Woah, does this actually look better than before? Did you lower the brightness? If you did and mentioned it, sorry for asking the obvious :P

I really like it this way.

  • For monks, wave fist, earth slash, and chakra are the way to go. Earth slash in particular is very useful. You'd be surprised at all the crazy nooks and crannies that you can get that attack to hit. Hamedo is nice, but overall I find the above abilities more useful overall in a greater number of situations.

  • you know what wave fist is in the japanese version hadoken

  • The only downside to all that speed is that they crystallize extraordinarily fast if they are KO'ed

  • @PrismicFallingStar yeah lol i had someone with an extremely high speed due to speed save and they got KOed and crystallized before any of my other units could even get to them to revive them haha

  • play tales of symphonia please

  • Too bad that "ignore" thing is still somewhat limited. (I'll explain later, if necessary)

  • I like getting chakra. I usually get it first so I can clean up a map and leave one guy left, then I surround the monk with my other characters and beat on him for JP while he keep himself and everyone else healed with chakra. Great way to max a single job class very quickly if you care for that sort of thing.

  • @HCBailly My favorite ones to learn with monk are chakra. and especially the innaccurate high damage one (mixed with concentration in psx version at least) = 1hko often. and major ouch otherwise

  • I have a question, are you going to note some of the differences in versions, like keeping Lavian and Alicia for the "event" with Agrias later? It gives you a nice item, and I'd think people may wish to keep them for that. :P It may be PSP only, but it's still nice to know.

  • Wait for the two female knights that join you here at the start of chapter two dont you need them for a side thing laer in game like a characters birthday or something?

  • why is it every time you say "and now the continuation" i think of Stargate SG-1

  • @NayrZetto Never saw that show. I base my "last time" approach on Star Trek: TNG, but with my own energy added to it.

  • @HCBailly You should put that "TO BE CONTINUED" blue text with the black screen that they had in TNG whenever there was a split episode. You probably have done that before, I just don't remember when.

  • @HCBailly Ahhh so, yer a Treky fan eh? :D

  • "What is this? Final Fantasy IV?"

    LOL

  • I loove Hamedo, its just such a good ability when you get over its JP cost. When an enemy wants to attack you, you attack first, and cancel their own attack! :D

  • 5:28 post cometary HC?

  • @DemonofHell48 You won't let me get away with anything, will you? :D Actually, that was live, but I increased the volume there. For some reason, I have to do that when I do my Palpatine impression, because I can't seem to make my voice loud enough for it.

  • hcbailly, whenever you say "welcont to final fantasy tactics" i always wish you would say "final fantasy tic-tacs" i think it would be funny

  • i thought you weren't gonna upload today HC? maybe its just you upload so much awesomeness that i didn't even notice! XD thanks for being so timely for so long

  • With Monks I always get Wave First first, then Chakra, then Earth Slash, then Revive.

  • Ive noticed a trend HCBailly. You start a battle with great luck but then things go down hill deeper in the battle and that makes it so suspenseful.

  • Ha. I love how Ramza reacts to the player trying to kick him out. It's just one step away from saying "I'm the main character, bitch, you can't kick me out."

Also why do they keep calling it Gill? It's Gil. Named after Edward's original Japanese name. Bleh, I'm not gonna complain. I ain't THAT much of a pedant.

  • If you are playing the PSP version you are going to want to keep Alicia and Levian (or whatever her name is) if you want to get a good item later in the game. Although the PSP version let's you have more party slots too.

  • Where is the the line? "Choice is an ilusion created between those with power and those without." That sounds pertty cool and I'm sure that I've heard it before but I can't quite remember...

    Pls help!

  • "Wizards! Come out to play!"

Nice Warriors reference. Loving the LP so far!

  • that "last time"-thing is so funny.i loved it in chrono trigger too!please do it more often.

  • Hamedo's gotta be the best obviously. There's nothing more badass than reading an enemy's mind before they attack and just punching his lights out (Chakra is the real answer)

  • you mean you didnt make him a monk for the amazing skill set and great base damage without any gil cost?

@TheGreatAmands i believe that skill is called Earth Slash.

  • i like learning the skill that heals hp and mp for monks

  • I always waited until Rad/Ladd, Alicia and Lavian joined so I could dismiss my other generics and have them in my party.

I dunno, I just like doing that.

  • Wave Fist is a necessity, sure, but Chakra is absolutely necessary.

  • with a monk i normally just learn the forget the move but it hits in a strait line and it helps for a certain traitor battle if you know what i mean.

  • Funny little thing I noticed: If you get rid of Rad and the two girls, I think they show up later on in random battles, I've seen male units named Rad after getting rid of them and he had become a monk or something... Guess he wanted revenge for being thrown away like that.

  • 5:45 The only time you get to see a thief take off his hat.

  • Tactics and FFXII share the same places. They're both in the land of Ivalice.

  • @Youngone0G9 I don't remember Bethla Garrison being a location in FF12 though... Maybe I just got bad memory?

  • @DJ96829 I don't think Bethla Garrison was in FF12, but I'm very sure both are in Ivalice, because I remember a few areas with the same name.

  • Also for Monk, Chakra and Wave Fist

  • HCBailly, wave fist is sometimes the only ability I make characters monks for. None of the others are as good for the jp they take imo.

  • Gafgarion was a division commander in Fifty Years War, although he was expelled due to his barbaric methods used to secure victory.

  • I thought you needed to keep Alicia and Lavian(not sure on spelling) to get a certain "gift item" if you know what I mean later in the game or is that just in the psp version

  • I'm trying not to spoil anything, HC, but doesn't it piss you off what happens story-wise with Agrias later on in the game? Because it does me. :<

  • The beggining reminds me of that one episode of super mario sunshine chuggaaconroy did.

  • Anyone know the name of the battle music played in this episode?

  • THAT GUY IS CALLED FERNANDO!!!! THATS HOW IM CALLED IN REAL LIFE!!! AWESOMEE!!

  • I always learn Chakra first, that makes grinding sooooo easy. That and earth fist.

  • Your next Let's Play should be Tactics Ogre!!! :)

  • @grantandcorky Naw I think he should stick to the FFT and do FFTA next.

  • I like to learn Chakra so i can use MU's like crazy because you have a dedicated monk i think it would kinda work. The great thing about this game is any one person can make millions of team combination and most of them would work. \^_^/

  • Perhaps I should request this title now so that when your done showing and doing side quests and carry on with the next battle, you can use this title.

For the next battle, where you're going to be battling with a guest bird in your party...you should either call that episode, "Wiegraf's Dead Bird Is Still Alive" or "I Thought I Killed That Bird In Episode 13"...

  • I prefer to start with wave fist then learn chakra and then earth slash

  • Earthslash is what I usually go for first. it takes some saving up, but once you learn it you can wipe out maps pretty quick. Counter is also nice.

  • I think Hamedo is amazing, but it's costly and there's no way you'd get it quickly without setting up some kind of artificial grinding loop (speed break etc).

I always learned Earth Slash before Wave Fist. Chakra is awesome too. I'm fond of Counter but if you're not going to be using Cheer much, then Speed Save will be more valuable.

I hope you do show Hamedo later in the game. With high brave it is *hilarious*.

  • @NovemberZuluCharlie oh, well then Dump away

  • HC Baily, after Wave Fist, I'd say you should learn either Chakra or Earth Slash. Chakra in particular can be good since it also restores MP, but fights don't usually last so long that you need to worry about more MP. I'd say Earth Slash first since it has a better vertical range, but in all honesty, aside from those three moves the rest of the monk actions aren't very good because of low accuracy and height restrictions.

  • Maybe you should mention to the not-so-knowledgeable viewers that the Worlds of Tactics and FF12 are the same; Ivalice :)

Also, the Speed gains that Chrona receives via yell and the like; are those permanent throughout the battle?

  • Could you go over the basics for the classes as you unlock them? Give a little information on what they do and how they do it. It'd be interesting to hear your opinion on their usefulness.

  • I personally would prefer the PSP version for all non-HCBailys. The cutscenes are epic in that version

  • "That one battle." Oh, the times I had when I was stuck.

  • I love your acting voice. Nice!

  • Nooo, dont dismiss them. Atleast keep them in your party. You dont HAVE to use them if they are you know? Keep the 'special characters' please. That includes Rad, Alicia, Lavian and the Chocobo :(

    Pretty please?

  • For people playing the PSP version of the game, DO NOT get rid of any "guest" characters that join your party. Doing so will prevent you from completing a special event that only happens in the PSP version of the game. This includes keeping Rad, Alicia and Lavian, as well as another "guest" character that joins with you later.

  • You should've stripped the extras before you removed them. Even if you didn't need the equipment, you could've sold it for some extra money. But since you loaded a save, I guess it's possible you already did that.

  • @FuIIOfFaiI You do honor to your name :P

You automatically get their equipment when you dismiss them ^^

  • You do a damned good sith emeror impression HC Baily.

  • so HCBailly, i assume Ramza is going to "draw out" this job class your hinting at?

I suppose you could also "throw" us another hint for what Chrona might be.

  • Dont dump them you need them for a side quest later HC!

  • When you said Pit of despair HC It's a place in the Princess Bride movie. ;p

  • revive and chakra are reaaly good to lear once you dond need to waste anything to heal up

but if you are going for offensive moves try wave fist first (just as you said) and then go to earth punch then repeated fist

i always do it that way and it always woks wonders

  • Are you going to do a let's play of the gba final fantasy tactics?

  • HCBailly, in the PSP version, if you keep the two knights that Agrias comes with, later on in the game, you can get a special item for females only. Just thought you should mention that.

  • well in my experience I gave my monk chakra & revive just in case my priest died and I gave him equip armor since monks just wear light equipment, move+ 1 so he'd reach enemies faster to 1-shot them, earth slash is pretty good, stigma magic and martial arts are pretty dam good towards the end. ^^

  • Do you plan on eventually learning some Thief abilities because there will be some great gear to lift later in the game.

  • If i remember correctly, Gafgarion is notorious for his brutality which is noted in his bio...

  • @KarestaEliazal

yea gafgarion been kicked off the knight squad because he was to brutal so thats why agrias

tells him hes not a knight anymore, agrias obviously knows about his past :).

  • @bartosx I think quite a few people in the game know of his past...

  • The 3 units at the beginning aren't COMPLETELY generic, because they do have fixed names.

Also, you're not going to screw around with Gaffgarion's equipment? Not even before the falls?

  • I'm curious as to the design choice in Ramza's sprite... Seriously, what is with the ass-less chaps? Or are they merely continuing the tradition of odd clothing in Final Fantasy games?

  • I like wave fist, chakra, and revive.

having the range is nice, chakra is an aoe heal that also restores MP(good for those longer fights), and revive is a guaranteed revive that heals more than phoenix down.

  • @superanimeniac Revive is sadly not guaranteed. Oh, it's not, and I learned it the hard way.

98% revive failing twice in a row and one of my characters turning in a crystal in one of the most annoying battles of the game, forcing me to try it all over again? Yes, that happened to me. Never forget.

  • @firei11 plus if you get stuck on a tile that's 1/2 or 1 height higher or lower it won't work... there are quite a few maps with that problem...

  • *sees an HCBailey video* HELL YES!~!~ * runs to kitchen to get popcorn*

  • *Tear* How could you toss out Agrias's loyal knights Alicia & Lavian?

As for Gafgarion, yes he's famous. He was once a (or maybe, the) leader of the Order of the Eastern Sky in addition to now being a mercenary and any fame he might get from his jobs there. He also has quite a few connections... *wink*

  • @HCBailly though even more than chakra is the monk's counter abilities.

  • If you keep Alicia and Lavian you can get a perfume, but im not sure if that only happens in the PSP version.

  • @HCBailly personally I like to learn just enough to learn Wave Fist myself too but I also like to learn Chakra for my mages through jp sharing. That why if I know I am going to be in a really magic intensive battle I can have Chakra as an all else fails back up. (Like I run out of ethers, and don't have the JP walk ability yet.)

  • I personally like Chakra (PSP version name idk original PSX name) for monks for sustainability when they aren't in range of an attack.

  • Awww, you got rid of Lavian and Alicia. Heheheh, the only reason I like them, really, is probably because they're generics with a set name.

  • I don't think I've been that consistent about the order to learn abilities. Sometimes I just get the cheaper stuff out of the way first.

That being said, for Monks, I'd probably focus on "chakra" and "revive" first for defensive purpose.

For cases where I'm only there for say a support, I'll just skip learning any action ability to save myself time.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, I'm trying to remember how to permanantly increase Faith, could you talk about in next video how to do that? I am trying to increase my Oracle/Priests Faith, but dunno how to

  • @Lirrink1776

Mediator has "Preach". Each successful use of preach raises faith by 4 points during the battle. It also results in a raise of +1 permanently after the battle. For raising brave, replace "Preach" with "Praise".

Solution can lower faith by 20 for the battle and -5 permanently. For brave, replace solution with threaten.

Those four skills are why the Mediator class is one of my favorites.

  • Are you going to be learning Blade Grasp at any point, HCBailly? I learn it almost every time I play and it's the most useful reaction ability in the game, to me, but it also makes the game incredibly easy if your brave is anywhere over 70.

  • Wait HCBaily! They have the high ground! You can't possibly win!!!

  • @evilsirjohn You underestimate HCBailly's power...

  • Rad, Lavian and Alicia's special ability is that they actually talk, unlike your other generics.

(If you highlight a character's name on the status menu and press circle, they'll talk about something)
