this is completely unrelated to your video but do you know of any damage that cleaning a wooden clarinet with surgical spirit / alcohol could cause?

Alcohol always dries wood out. I would use orange oil or some kind of orange furniture polish instead.

this again is unrelated but i would be incredibly grateful if you could help me - do you know the warranty period on a buffet e13, for about a year and 9 months ive had a manufacturing fault mistaken for badly swollen cork and im hoping i can get a replacement rather than just a repair job

you gotta contact Buffet about this or your dealer. Make sure you sent in your warranty materials when you bought the clarinet.

thanks. ive found my warranty information sheet this morning so im going to take it back to the dealer tomorrow, - if i had problems with the dealer i bought it from i know of another buffet dealer - would it be possible to use the other dealer on the basis its still a buffet instrument?

Is the initial demonstration of this legato technique at 3:15 intended to be more of an exercise than a precise example of how you would advise actually playing an excerpt? I ask because I personally thought that the finger motion in the example at 3:15 was far too slow for effective performance; however, the slightly quicker motion at 5:02ff sounded great!

Yes, the example is how an exercise might go to help someone break the habit of grabbing or slapping the tone holes. I should have made that clearer. Once you train yourself to control closure you then have the control to play the example at 5:02 without slamming, banging and popping. This is more or less the French approach to technique a la Paris Conservatory.
