Actually, there are hints that Yammy is 0 before this chapter.

-Yammy hasn't appear for a long time.

-Yammy's number is 10, 10 is two digits, which classify as numero, there shouldn't be a 10 in Espada.

-Yammy outlives Ulquiorra and some other Espada.

-Yammy's sudden appear.

-Yammy suddenly grow bigger.

-Shawlong states that Espada are from 1 to 10, which I doubt it, Nel states that there is no Espada No. 10, think of it, you trust a weak fraccion more or a former Espada more.

i heard somewhere its your reiatsu strength, now i know that isnt stated in the manga but it makes sense... Kinda like how Barragan could technically own any of the other espadas with his ability, but that doesnt necessarily mean hes "stronger". And a way to determine strength is i guess reiatsu, even though someone with weaker "strenght" could still be a better fighter/have better abilities and beat the "stronger one".
