  • "WASP" cover is better! .-)

  • Excellent cover-wish PJ would do an entire album of Who covers-Eddie's voice is perfect for singing Who songs!

  • Who else now does the McCready shuffle at :52 when they rock out?

  • i can't find the who's performance anywhere!!

  • guitar cover really looks like than the original, but drums and the other guitar no..

  • The real sons of The Who. True blood.

  • Sorry getting tired of people saying the bass player or that drummer so heres a little refference to those who don't know.....really not trying to be mean

    singer- Eddie Vedder

    drummer- Matt Cameron

guitar player jumping around- Mike McCready

    guitar playing dancing- Stone Gossard

fking amazing bass player- Jeff Ament

Thank you! and im sure i just ticked a couple of people off :)

  • @97RockFan Who cares if you ticked a couple of people off, these fools need to know and LEARN from you and other Pearl Jam fans.

  • Best cover I've ever heard.

  • I was watching this with my dad and he said " whos that dork trying to be the Pete Townsend" and I said "THATS THE MIKE MCCREADY!"

  • Tight

  • Matt Cameron !!!!!! Unbelievable !!!!!!!

  • This is an awesome cover!!! Sounds great!

  • Excellent cover of this classic track. The bass player and the drummer were trying to get it close to the original. The singer meant it too. An all round great rendition!

  • I'll give the bassist kudos for attempting to cover such an incredible and very difficult song. Must have been sweating bullets not to completely embarrass himself. Granted, there's no way in hell that any meer mortal could play the bass as well as Entwistle does on that song...or any Who song for that matter.

  • @jeremiahjohnson1967

It was Entwistle's favorite who song, bar none.

  • @jeremiahjohnson1967 Geddy Lee.

  • @jeremiahjohnson1967 couldn't have said it better!

  • Sorry PJ's but WASP is the only way to cover this song!

  • @spicrock awesome cover though!

  • Sadly, it looks like a bunch of corporate types (Hey, I got some tix from accounting, wanna go?) who are too cool for school, neither do they have R&R historical perspective to understand exactly what is going on in front of them, standing around like their britches are too tight. The Who left blood, sweat and tears on the stage, giving tremendous historical performances that will never be equalled (o.k., this comes quite close; can never find fault with Pearl Jam... never.).

  • bass go hard and Eddie is a great, strange, beautiful shape of Roger Daltrey--THANKS 4 POST--VERY GOOD PERF*****

  • Best who cover ever, sick bass and vocsls

  • I've seen this half a dozen times and it keeps getting better. Jeff nail's Ox's lines and Mike's moves are spectacular . I'll forgive him for the Strat burning incident at Bumbershoot's Hendrix tribute concert over a decade ago now LOL! Makes me proud to be a Seattleite ! Pearl Jam RULES .

  • @ELBAGGADOUCHIO And don't forget Matt nails Keith's drum lines. An amazing cover.

  • yea jeff doing john proud

  • Great version! The bass player is under a lot of pressure to cover this one, sickest bass runs in rock

  • Always a great base section on this song

  • AH YEAH!!! I LOVE PEARL JAM!!!!

  • Yeah, Entwistle's son or one hell of a hard working band who have so much more talent than I ever knew. That bass is so groovy, and difficult.

  • At 0:53 (actually 0:51-0:52 ish) was a Pete Townsend move. This performance really lights my fire. Thanx McCready et al!

  • So we have Keith Moon and Entwistle's sons ?

  • Brilliant in every phase, should do a tour of just Who stuff.

  • what the hell is Mike doing at 0:53?? :D

  • @myveryownchannel search youtube for "pete townshend dancing machine" see 0:18

  • Damn they kicked ass! This is one of my favorite Who songs and Pearl Jam really did it justice. Eddie has the perfect voice for this

  • killer performance and killer pic/sound quality. thanks!

  • Actually if it was only the neck, I guess it could be replaced. Anyway, that kind of beating is what gives guitars a tone of their own after 50-60 years or so

  • Ow, that poor Les Paul at the end there. Only millionaires would waste a expensive guitar like that. I hope it was a fake like Slash used to use.

  • @hackr69 then its not worth trashing if its a fake. for all of my love for great guitars, if your gonna smash one, you gotta go all out - smash everything. besides im pretty sure Pearl Jam are millionares

  • Tore it up!

  • Né que fico bão....

    : D

  • Awesome version. Lots of love for the original shown here. Great bass by Jeff and the horn section rips. Just simply awesome.

  • A few more watching/listenings later.....this version does great respect to The Who. I apologize for my earlier comment.....now get off my lawn... :)

  • After Entwistle passed, this song became officially uncoverable. Nice try though. Neo-punk grunge 'rockers' had no business trying this song....

    My opinion.....

  • How could he destroyed another LP :( I would take it if he didn't like it....

  • Very impressive, they done it proud!

  • NOBODY can deny Pearl Jam has outstanding rhythm section on this song!

  • Better than the original, best Rock voice ever!!

  • LET JEFF SHINE BABY. Real tribute to all the members of the who with the performance of this song, from "Thunderfingers" Ament, to McCready's windmills at the end, even matt's bashing away in Moon style. And of course eddie loves to pay tribute to the Who.

  • 1:30-1:53 :)))

  • every time I try to watch this there's annoying buffering.

  • the only pearl jam song I like and it's not even their's. I hate today's music

  • Lol I love how the guitarists breaks his LP and at 3:14 goes back to pick it up probably thinking " Oh fuck wtf did I do "

  • Woah... Pearl Jam kicks ASS!!!

  • Pearl Jam hammer The Who on these covers.

  • Fucking awesome and im not even a pearl jam fan

  • Stone looks like Steven Speilburg :D

  • I'VE SAID IT BEFORE REGARDING THIS AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN.

    THIS IS FUCKING EPIC!!!!!!

  • @Jamiethewookie EPIC is a very strong description, and you are absolutely correct!

  • Man these guys, i've never heard anything like them, the bass is awsome, John Entwisle awsome, and the drums...

wow they almost match my favorite band (The Who)

    perfect cover!

  • No entiendo como en ese mismo instante la tierra no se partió en dos. Mucha mucha mucha pero mucha grosura junta.

  • Mike McCready :D:D:D:D:D::D:D:D

  • Anyone else absolutely LOVE how Mike changed his mannerisms to match Pete's? Although they're very similar anyway, he does the best Pete Townshend impersonation.

  • this is friggin amazing

  • Not a fan of th' Jam, but this is epic. Splendid job chaps.

  • god.... i saw this video like... 1030012302 times ... and all i can say is: J.A. can really reaalllyyyy play a bass... jaja

  • While I give them an A for effort noone will ever be able to play this tune quite like The Who. It's just not possible.

  • possessed performance

  • Good to know that these guys will carry the torch once the boys are gone.

And I hope that was an Epiphone LP he tossed...!

  • Man that guitar player does a fuckin cool cover of Pete's show in his haydays

  • The best performance an american band ever delivered

  • FROM A WHO FAN- BRAVO. EXCELLENT!

  • This even trumps the W.A.S.P. cover of this song

  • I was pleasantly surprised by this cover.. almost as much drive and energy as when The Who did this live in their prime. Even complete with guitar destruction ;)

  • This is the best cover of The Who I've ever heard. Unlike that piece of crap from Wasp, this Real Me is the real deal.

  • pretty sensational for a grunge band. This seems more like Floyd. Good song though.

  • 0:52 Pete Townshend wiggle move.

  • wau thats good..the only band which is allowed to cover the who

  • I gotta say they did an outstanding job on this one. The bass could be louder in the mix but hey, it's live! Eddie's voice is a good fit for this song! Excellent.......

  • This is incredible....I know I sound like Captain Obvious.

  • Nothing like fat P bass tone.

  • @sneha1965 Amen

  • That guitarist is trying to do his best Townsend but he just looks stupid. They sound pretty good. Of course the bass and drums are a little weak compared to moon and the ox but what do you expect. Eddie sounds great.

  • @scoobiecrew1 Your post is spot on! Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • DEAD ON!

  • The only band who can play the who.

  • There goes a headstock. Now that Gibson has to be glued.

  • mccready dances like an idiot for this song... but its still badass.

  • @BobMillahhh He's dancing like Pete!

  • Best version of anything. Ever!

  • Jeff ament bass playing is epic!

  • Outshined everyone that night, The Who included, (and that's coming from a BIG Who fan here). Kudos PJ!

  • @meeuzik Nice comment =) . All true.

    PJ rules.

  • their cover of Reign O'er Me is beautiful as well, Eddie Vedder is probly the only person that can cover a song of The Who's and make me like it more

  • Holy shit this is good!!!!!!!!!

  • Pearl jam should be the only band allowed to do a cover of any Who song. Ever.

  • @JG3768 You have no idea how much I agree with that statement. Shall we make it a rule? I think so.

  • @JG3768 Oh no. They fail to even make the best cover of that underrated classic, W.A.S.P. wear the crown on that one. KISS also pay tribute to The Who by sticking Won't Get Fooled Again within Lick It Up on top of having it be their opening song. Van Halen have also made two kick-ass covers of The Who (Baba O'Reilly, Won't Get Fooled Again). Pearl Jam might be good, but still they're nowhere near the top regarding covers of The Who.

  • @nognir616 That Van Halen version sucked(except when Ed played the synth stuff on guitar -That was cool). Ed is better than Sammy ,and he is a lot better than Paul and Gene. Also, the fans of Kiss should say, "We wont get fooled again!" when they pay 50 bucks to see an imposter wearing Ace's make-up!

  • @ilovejourney1 Tommy taught Ace his own songs before the Reunion tour, when Ace was facing with the aftereffects of his abuse of alcohol... and taught him to play alternate pick. He also performs each and every gimmick that Ace used to while he plays a lot better and doesn't do the mistakes Ace used to do due to his addictions. This makes Tommy Thayer a HEIR to the Spaceman persona while Ace has let himself and the band down, and yes it's worth 50 bucks and even more to watch him live.

  • @nognir616 Tommy should have his own make-up like Vinnie Vincent and Eric Carr did. What if The Who got a new Bassist who wore the Skeleton outfit?! Then again ,it makes me sick seeing all The Who songs on those C.s.i shows.

  • @JG3768

yeah no other band is good enough

  • @JG3768 Rush also does some fantastic Who covers, specifgically The Seeker and Summertime Blues. I actually like them better than the originals, and I'm a huge Who fan.

  • @JG3768 you have to see the W.A.S.P. cover of this song, it is tremendeously beautiful,

    sincerly

    Denis ( Albania)

  • @JG3768 Them and Foo Fighters. =)

  • SuperCool cover!!! super coooool original song!

  • This is so great!

  • Good cover, the originals still better though.

  • What's with the audience? They should have been going nuts!!!

  • @innes63 ..... I think they're in absolute awe... there's no other explaination.

  • @innes63 - maybe this audience had taste.

  • @innes63

What's with this audience is exactly the kind of thing you get when you do The Who right. You'll see that the ones who seem really out of it are the women. This music was not designed to appeal to girls. That some do is largely the exception & not the rule & more often than not prefer the records to the live performance. Originally, Townshend said the band wanted to appeal to a male audience, i.e. testosterone & adrenaline fueled music (The Beatles had a lock on the estrogen).

  • @innes63 Agreed! Why are they all just standing there?

  • This bassist never had too much fun

  • very talented guys. i like this. great cover.

but that jumping guitarist on the left is weird

  • As good as a cover can get.

Eddie is more excited about covering The Who than his own material. He could have made a great Who cover band.

  • well... I prefer The Who

  • im so obsessed with 1:30-1:53. the bass, drums and eddies voice. its just awesome. best cover

  • Someone can explain me why every Pearl Jam's covers are better than the originals?

  • @corfox1

You are wrong. Covers will never be better than the original. Especially The Who. I have mad respect for Pearl Jam nonetheless, but they are no Who.

  • Right on

  • I Heard It Through The Grapevine. All Along The Watchtower. The Man Who Sold The World. There obviously is never going to be a consensus, but those are just a few songs off the top of my head whose covers have been thought of by many to be better than the originals.

  • No, it's a miracle!

  • Your preference, this is a fine cover but I prefer the Who's original by a long shot.

  • Eddie sounds awesome in this!!

  • mccready is such a livewire! pearl jam is so f-ing classy. love it.

  • awesome cover gotta give it up

  • this rocks so hard!!!!!!

  • Very lame audience...

  • haha ur so wrong!!!!!!

  • You are right.....I didn't realize it at first and also didn't see the whole performance at first....

  • theyre almost as old as the who...

  • this is so good, just can't stop watching this!!!!!!

  • Mike's moves were awesome.

Funny at the end after he threw the guitar and it broke then was like... oops better pick that up lol.

  • They play the fuck out of this song

  • The Highlight of the night by leaps and bounds.

  • Watch a music video by The Who and you can see what he's trying to recreate onstage there.

  • jeff ament's bass lines are almost as good as entwistle's!!!!!!

  • he is at his best!!

  • who?

  • JEFF!!!

  • he sure is, does the bass licks almost as good as entwistle!!!!!!

  • No, not really!!!!!!

  • ROCK N ROLL!!!!!!

  • Hey Jeff Ament, hey hi, how's it going? Good? Good!

  • Mike se esbaldando !!!

  • Jeff's bass!!!

  • incredibly strong

  • this is awesome! pure energy!

  • Pearl jam is a real leader ! The true rock - legend

  • Oh man the only thing that gets me is that sweet tobacco burst biting the dust.... Mike you could have given it to me.... :-(

  • A prelude to a regular feature in the European tour gigs? Great!

  • This would be an awesome addition to the setlist, they are really good at this song and it seems like they all have alot of fun playing it

  • They are currently playing it LIVE! Saw them in Chicago 8-23-09 an they ROCK!!! Awesome cover!!!

  • clip repeatedly on 2:29 and not laugh, I dare you.

They played this in Calgary tonight. Can't get enough of it.

  • Wow, badass cover

  • Every time I think I can't love these guys any more than I already do, I find another clip. Thanks for posting x

  • haha this is great, Mike's got moves...
