thats not true, La Palma will not slide into the sea, even if it did the tsunami would not reach the USA. only a few scientists are trying to say that so that they can get money to fund their own research projects. New York has nothing to fear from La Palma. The island is stable. Only a substantial increase in height could cause it to become unstable and at the current rate of growth that would take at least 10,000 years.

It would however, destroy smaller structures like low rise apt./office bldgs. and houses, schools, malls etc. It would cripple vital infrastructure like cell phone networks, power lines, water/sewer lines, subways&train travel, Interstate highways, seaports, airports. I read his research, and it's legitimate, he just exaggerated a few things, such as saying it's likely for there to be a failure on the next eruption. If anything, By what I see, more research could be done to figure the frequency of these landslides, and the volume of each of them. They could be small events...
