Rugby players are tough. But American football players have to "wear armor" or people would be getting killed every week. American football is set up so that there are bigger run-ups on the hits. You mark a guy from several yards away and run full speed into them. The forces involved in an American football hit are far greater than Rugby. But, like I said, Pro Rugby players are big, tough, strong guys.

I play both rugby and football. The pads are worn to avoid injury and you don't have to be a women/gay/pussy/fag to not want to get hurt. Rugby is fun since opposing players get injured more, football is also fun because you can use your helmet/pads to just crash into people and still injure them and make them fucking fly.
