The Soviets gave China the designs and helped them start production of their AK variant, they started production in 1956 hence the name Type56.

The licenese to legally produce the Type 56 expired after the USSR fell, so technically, they are producing them illeagly. Not that it matters though.

@ericst2003, there was no such thing as a patent in the USSR. Everything belonged to the people. It was only recently that Kalashnikov got a patent for his his invention.

the Kalashnikov stessed recently the only legal country in world to produce AK is china , other than russia. i dont know how, but russians somehow agree it since long time ago
