  • I hope this is not a sign for things to come. The same thing happened to ferraris etc; they all went from manual gearboxes to sequential; ie (imo) ruining a very good proportion of the joy. Now there are next to no high end sports cars with a proper manual gearbox. Sure, they are faster, but if I wanted to go fast and shift using buttons, I'd buy a PS3 instead.

  • @sumopieomnomnom I hear ya. There's an art and science to connecting an engine to the ground via the transmission, and automation takes it away. Last year, I lost the 1/4-mi record I held for 8 yrs in the One Lap to a computer-launched and -shifted Porsche. When I launched my Lister at IRP nearly a decade prior, I used the clutch TWICE after it fell on its face when the tires glued themselves to the ground...an old 2-stroke dirt bike trick.:) Somehow I like keeping the driver in the loop.

  • @DAMDriver True, and on motorbikes you can shift without the clutch anyway!

    So why bother with this?!

  • When i go from 1st to 2nd (using the clutch) there is a sound that almost sounds like my horn beeping and i'm wondering what it is. I'm getting smooth shifts and there arent any lights on the dash that are showing a problem so i'm just wondering what the sound is. I dont hear it in any other gear

  • @fuckyeah009 do you mean when you shift from 1 to 2 you hear a loud click ?

  • The AE model is awsome! It has a foot and a finger shift, you can use either one. It is not an automatic transmission, just a auto clutch. If you stop in 5th gear it will still be in 5th gear when you try and go again. The computer will even try to slip the clutch enough to alow for take off. It`s great in stop and go traffic and has the same engine braking capabilities as the clutch model. click on my screen name to see a video of it`s performance

  • @danthemanzizzle cool! I remember when I was racing dirtbikes, the clutch was used only ONCE per race..off the gate. This Sport Tourer bike was a clutchless bike, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked.

  • So the finger & thumb toggle-switches are for the shifter..?

Is this a factory option, and how does it actuate the shift..?

  • @R1j0hn I personally use the hand shift only, but you can shift with your foot. The differance with the foot is that all the gears are up, instead of 1 down the rest up. Once used to the finger shift gear changes are just a flick of the fore finger. It was a $1500 option when new. Dicontinued after 3 years of production. 2005-08 Click on my screen name to see a video of it`s performance

  • interesting... not seems much fun I guess, and not so good as for mechanically speaking...

  • I hear ya. I grew up racing and never used the clutch after the start. Still, I was skeptical when I first threw a leg over this thing. I was pleasantly surprised at how user-friendly it actually was. Time will tell how it does mechanically.

  • no clutch = no fun. no backing it in. not really necessary after 1st, but def help with engine braking during downshifts
