I hated this show when I was a kid. But in retrospect, the song is sooooooooooo cool. It gives me goosebumps.

Reminds me of how much today's music stinks in contrast.

My abiding memory of this was how rubbish the ice robots were at shooting. The defenders would just be stood around chatting while the ice robots consistently missed them.

When i was a kid i never really watched this, but a mate always seemed to have it on. Great intro, and very catchy. Just one question though; Who they hell is this Mandrake character? I recognise all the others but that one.

Mandrake was a character created by Lee Falk who also created the Phantom and the DOTE exclusive character; Lothar who is a close riend of Mandrake's. DOTE was put together by King Features Syndicate as they had the rights to these characters and Alex Raymond's characters; Flash Gordon and Ming the Merciless. Hope this helps. David315842> Actually, Lothar wasn't exclusive to Defenders of the Earth. He is Mandrake's servant/ bodyguard from the Mandrake comic strips. They decided to upgrade him in the DotE cartoon as if he was a hero of equal stature to the others, even though he doesn't have his own comic strip.

The Phantom didn't seem to translate as well to a modernization, IMHO ... I was more a fan of the comic strip, which began hitting a decline at about this time.
